New Delhi: The Supreme Court refused to grant a stay order on the results of National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) UG 2024. The court heard the plea requesting that the NEET UG 2024 exams be retaken in light of the alleged malpractices and paper leaks.

While hearing the plea, SC said, “We will schedule it for after the summer break, but we cannot stay the results of an all-India exam”. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice JB Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra stated that it could not block a nationwide examination like NEET. SC issued a notice to the Central government regarding the case and asked for a response.

As per the schedule, NTA successfully conducted the NEET UG 2024 exam on May 05, 2024 in various exam centers in India and abroad. NTA is set to release the NEET UG 2024 result on June 14, 2024 on the official website at exams.nta.ac.in/NEET.

What Was The Petitioner’s Demand?

Mr Narendre Hooda, Senior Advocate, who appeared for the petitioners, has alleged that there was a paper leak in the NEET UG 2024 which can lead to unfair practices & negatively impact the quality of the results.

He also added that this paper leak violates Article 14 of the Indian Constitution by giving undue advantage to some candidates. NEET UG Exam paper leak can undermine the trust in the fairness and integrity of the examination process, which is crucial for maintaining the merit-based selection criteria. There are rising concerns about the security measures implemented by exam-conducting bodies to prevent leaks and breaches.

Mr Narendra Hooda said, "The NEET UG paper leak infringes upon the fundamental right to equality and equal opportunities guaranteed under Article 14 of the Constitution of India as paper leak gives an unfair advantage to some selected group of students, thereby compromising the rights of other meritorious students”.

“It is respectfully submitted that the paper leak undermines the merit-based selection process for medical colleges, affecting the future of countless aspiring doctors.
