The grand finale of the Smart India Hackathon 2023 overseen by Manipal Institute of Technology, is taking place from December 19 to 23, 2023.

New Delhi: This year, the Manipal Institute of Technology has assumed the role of the central hub for overseeing the Smart India Hackathon - Hardware edition, which is being held between December 19 and 23, 2023. A collective of 24 teams, featuring 179 participants, are ready to address four problem statements sourced from two state governments and one ministry. 

Specifically, the Manipal Institute of Technology is facilitating challenges presented by the Government of Gujarat, the Government of Kerala, and the Ministry of Ayush. Each problem statement comes with a substantial winning prize of INR 1 lakh.

The Smart India Hackathon 2023 is a collaborative effort among the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, the All India Council for Technical Education, and i4c. 

PM Addresses Participants, Encourages Tech Pioneers 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the participants of the Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2023, delivering a speech via video conferencing. Expressing his satisfaction with the dedication of the younger generation in crafting solutions for the nation's challenges, he underscored the successes of previous hackathons. 

PM Modi highlighted how the startups and solutions originating from those events have played a significant role in benefiting both the government and society.

Sharing that the Hackathon serves as a continuous learning opportunity for him he expressed his ongoing eagerness to engage with participants. Observing the bright expressions on their faces, he highlighted that the energy, determination, and dedication to nation-building exhibited by these participants emboies the essence of India's youthful strength.

Reflecting the 21st-century mantra of India - Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, and Jai Anusandhan, PM Modi underscored the nation's collective departure from the inertia of the status quo. Pointing out India's rise as the world's third-largest economy, he cited achievements such as the successful UPI system and the triumph in vaccination efforts amid the pandemic.

Addressing the young innovators and experts in various domains, the Prime Minister underscored the pivotal nature of the present era, asserting that it would chart the course for the next millennium. He urged them to grasp the uniqueness of this period, citing the convergence of multiple factors: India's status as one of the youngest nations globally, its reservoir of talent, a robust and steady governance system, a burgeoning economy, and an unparalleled focus on advancements in science and technology.

All About the Teams at Smart India Hackathon 

During its grand finale, the event captured considerable interest and participation from diverse Ministries, departments, PSUs, and private organizations, all providing valuable problem statements. A total of 231 problem statements have been submitted, originating from 51 departments across 25 Ministries for SIH 2023.

More than 12,000 participants are poised to participate in the national-level grand finale of SIH this year. Accompanied by over 2,500 mentors, these teams will assemble at their designated nodal centers, engaging in intensive collaboration on the provided problem statements throughout the SIH 2023 grand finale.

Speaking to the budding innovators and experts across diverse domains, the Prime Minister highlighted the critical significance of the current era, stating that it will shape the next millennium. 

He also encouraged them to recognize the distinctiveness of this time, pointing to the convergence of several factors: India's standing as one of the youngest nations worldwide, its reservoir of talent, a resilient and stable governance system, a growing economy, and a focus on advancements in science and technology

About Smart India Hackathon

The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is a nationwide initiative led by the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, providing students a crucial platform to address challenges faced by government bodies, ministries, departments, industries, and various organizations. Acknowledged as the world’s largest open innovation model, SIH cultivates a culture of product innovation and problem-solving among students. 

Since its inception in 2017, SIH has been held annually in two formats: the SIH Software and SIH Hardware Editions tailored for higher education students. Moreover, in 2022, the introduction of Smart India Hackathon - Junior aimed to instill an ethos of innovation and problem-solving at the school level.

Over the years, the Smart India Hackathon's influence has expanded significantly, evident in the increasing engagement of students and organizations. SIH consistently empowers numerous students, providing a national platform to apply academic knowledge to real problems, fostering innovation, and nurturing entrepreneurial interests.
