The National Medical Commission announced on July 13, 2023 that the National Exit Test (NExT) has been deferred for final year MBBS students of 2019 batch till further directions on the advice of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

New Delhi: The National Exit Test (NExT) test has been postponed until further notice on the advice of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), informs a public notice released by the National Medical Commission (NMC) on July 13, 2023.
As per the official notice, the NExT exam was postponed at the suggestion of the Ministry, dated July 11, 2023, until further direction from the MoHFW. Dr Yogender Malik, a representative of the NMC Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) shared the NMC notice.
The exam was supposed to be held for the 2019 MBBS batch, as previously stated. Earlier, the NMC NExT Regulations 2023 were released on June 28, 2023. The NMC stated, "These regulations shall take effect immediately from the date of their publication in the official Gazette."
However, doctors and students protested the decision to hold the NExT exam for the 2019 batch, claiming that this is against the NMC Act of 2019. NExT, the postgraduate medical test will take the role of NEET PG as a qualifying exam for MBBS students in their final year.

Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Health Minister, said this in a conversation with students at AIIMS Raipur earlier this month, "2019 batch MBBS students will not come under the NExT exam, and it will be applicable from the 2020 MBBS batch," he said.
Students are now inquiring about what to do with the INR 2000/- application fee they paid for the NExT mock test and the costs associated with travel and lodging.
One of the tweets from a student stated, "If the news is true about #NextExam then what about that Rs 2000....??? And also about the money that every student has invested in Hotels & Traveling...???"
The Vice President of the AIDSO All India Committee, Dr Mridul Sarkar congratulated all the students on their success in the NExT exam. The NExT exam, which would be required to obtain a license to practice medicine in India, is anticipated to be held twice a year.
