NEET UG 2024 Controversy: Govt Asks CBI to Review Allegations against NEET UG 2024 Result; Check Details Here

New Delhi: In a recent development in the NEET UG 2024 Result controversy, the Ministry of Education has entrusted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) with a comprehensive investigation of the allegations brought against the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) Result 2024.

Reports of cheating, impersonation, and malpractices have prompted this action. To ensure transparency and uphold examination integrity, the Ministry has also enacted the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.

“For transparency in the conduct of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, after a review, has decided to entrust the matter to the CBI for investigation,” the ministry stated.

The NEET UG 2024 Exam was conducted on May 5, 2024. The NEET UG Result was released on June 4, 2024 for around 24 Lakh candidates. Following the announcement of results, certain isolated incidents of malpractice, including cheating, impersonation, and conspiracy, have been reported. Parents, students, and other stakeholders voiced concerns over the legitimacy of the results, especially after it was revealed that 67 students scored All India Rank 1, with a disproportionate number coming from the same exam center.

This controversy escalated to the point where the Supreme Court had to intervene, ordering a re-exam for 1,563 students who received grace marks due to the irregularities. The re-exam was conducted on June 23 and the results are expected to be released by July 20, 2024.

The Ministry of Education has requested the CBI to conduct a comprehensive investigation into these allegations, including the potential involvement of public servants. The investigation will cover conspiracy, cheating, impersonation, breach of trust, and destruction of evidence by candidates, institutes, and intermediaries.

The Centre further said, “The government is committed to ensuring the sanctity of examinations and protect the interest of students. It is reiterated that any individual/ organization found to be involved will face strictest action.”

In response to criticism regarding alleged inconsistencies in competitive exams, the Centre took action by removing Subodh Singh, the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), on Saturday. They also transferred the investigation into irregularities in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam to the CBI. Pradeep Singh Kharola, currently serving as Chairman and Managing Director of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), has been entrusted with additional responsibility as the head of the NTA until a permanent replacement is appointed.

The CBI has prioritized this investigation, forming special teams to address the issue urgently. These teams will be dispatched to locations like Patna and Godhra, where local police cases have been registered related to the NEET UG 2024 examination.
