IISc Bangalore has launched a 4-year BTech in Aerospace Engineering from the 2026-27 session. Admissions will be held only through JoSAA counselling based on JEE Advanced 2026 ranks. No separate IISc application is required.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has launched a new four-year Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme in Aerospace Engineering from the 2026-27 academic session. The announcement was made on the official BTech admissions portal at btech-ug.iisc.ac.in. Admissions will be conducted only through Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2026 counselling.

Aerospace Engineering is one of three new BTech disciplines introduced at IISc this year. The other two are Mechanics and Computing, and Materials Science and Engineering. The existing BTech in Mathematics and Computing, started in 2022-23, will continue alongside the new branches.

Programme Highlights

The BTech in Aerospace Engineering spans eight semesters and 128 credits. The curriculum covers aerodynamics, propulsion, structures and materials, flight and space mechanics, and guidance and control systems.

  • Aerospace Engineering X Lab for hands-on learning.
  • Design-Build-Fly capstone project in the final year.
  • Flexible electives across IISc departments.
  • Structured research projects from Year 3 onwards.
  • Graduate-level course access for high-performing students.

IISc BTech Programmes Offered in 2026-27

Programme Status Foreign student seats
Mathematics and Computing Existing (since 2022-23) 5

Campus and Hostel

All BTech students will be housed on the 400-acre IISc campus in Bengaluru. The institute offers on-campus hostel accommodation through the full duration of the programme. The medium of instruction for the programme is English.

Why This Matters

IISc has historically been a postgraduate and research-only institute. The Mathematics and Computing BTech in 2022-23 was its first undergraduate engineering programme. Aerospace Engineering joins that short list and gives JEE Advanced toppers a new IIT-alternative for aerospace study.

Action Plan for Candidates

  1. Track the JEE Advanced 2026 result and your All India Rank.
  2. Register on the JoSAA 2026 portal as soon as it opens.
  3. Keep Class 12 marksheet, JEE Advanced scorecard, and category certificate ready.
  4. Lock IISc Aerospace Engineering high in your JoSAA choice list if it is your target.
  5. Arrange the academic fee of Rs 3.58 lakh before reporting.
Keep an Eye On

Watch for the JoSAA 2026 schedule and IISc opening and closing ranks for Aerospace Engineering during the first counselling round.
