Mumbai University has adopted a new five-year perspective plan emphasizing skill-based training for students.
New Delhi: In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP), Mumbai University has adopted a new five-year perspective plan emphasizing skill-based training for students. The new perspective plan will concentrate on providing skill-based courses complementing the local needs of various regions served by Mumbai University rather than the traditional Arts, Science, and Commerce degrees.
The recently conducted special senate meeting of the Mumbai University approved the five-year perspective plans for the academic years 2024–2025 to 2028–2029. According to Mumbai University the projected plan will also decide where to open women's colleges, satellite centres, and night colleges in addition to determining the skill-based courses that can be offered.
"The prospective plan encompasses all regions served by MU - Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Sindhudurga and Ratnagiri - keeping in view the needs of local industry and employment possibilities as well as the interests of the local populace in higher education.
All of these places have various geographical circumstances, ranging from urban and rural settings to even tribal, hilly, and coastal locales," according to a statement released by Mumbai University on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the potential plan "has taken into consideration the geographical conditions as well as the existing higher education facilities and suggestions from stakeholders".
This prospective plan predicts a wide variety of cutting-edge skill-based courses, including manual composting, stock market courses, courses on construction and related business management, courses on managing agricultural products, courses on managing plastic trash, courses on cloud computing and data tracking, and courses on managing data.
