Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has inaugurated two cutting-edge laboratories for virtual reality, data science, and artificial intelligence, on its campus.

New Delhi: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) has inaugurated two cutting-edge laboratories for virtual reality, data science, and artificial intelligence, on its campus.
IITGN has launched these labs as a step towards achieving the goal of increasing research and educational excellence in the growing fields of science and technology and providing momentum to strong research-backed inventions.
Sarita G Gelot, the late Gordhanbhai B Gelot's wife and an IITGN supporter, officially inaugurated the "Gordhanbhai B Gelot Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science" and the "Sarita G Gelot Laboratory for Intelligent Rehabilitation & Affective Computing Systems" in presence of their family members.
By bringing experts together from forward-thinking data sciences, machine learning, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, and other disciplines to foster cutting-edge research, the "Gordhanbhai B Gelot Laboratory for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science" will foster a diverse and collaborative ecosystem.
It will enable flexible, interdisciplinary discussions that will empower the Institute's world-class researchers to develop and work together on cutting-edge solutions that advance this quickly developing field.
The "Sarita G Gelot Laboratory for Intelligent Rehabilitation & Affective Computing Systems" is committed to developing cutting-edge, adaptive, physiology-sensitive virtual reality technologies with the goal of delivering innovative, ground-breaking research solutions and encouraging their societal dissemination.
The interdisciplinary research conducted in this lab will help patients with post-stroke hemiplegia, Parkinson's disease, cognitive impairment, autism, and other related disorders.
Earlier, Shri Gordhanbhai additionally established two chairs at the Institute in memory of his parents, the "B S Gelot Chair" and the "Kankuben Bakshirambhai Gelot Chair," to recognise outstanding academic accomplishment and reward ground-breaking research.
Gordhanbhai B Gelot, a native of Umargam in Gujarat, had inherited from his father, Bakshirambhai S Gelot, a self-made and successful entrepreneur, a strong admiration for education and a hunger for knowledge.
The closest industrial estate to Mumbai in Gujarat is GIDC Industrial Estate in Umargam, where Gordhanbhai established a Small Scale Industrial (SSI) unit for ready-to-use clinical microbial analytical tools and successfully ran it for nearly 50 years. Gordhanbhai earned a PG degree in Industrial Microbiology from Gujarat University and worked with American and French pharma multinational corporations.
Praising the generous and ongoing support provided by late Gordhanbhai and his family, Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IITGN, said that It is a matter of honour to host the family for the inauguration of two labs that will prove to be a significant force in these developing fields of science and technology in the future.
Despite Shri Gordhanbhai not being with them, his footprints fill the space. There is no shortage of talent in India but in order to promote scientific and technology research, there's a need for more funding and to advance the Institute and the society, philanthropists like Shri Gordhanbhai's generous funding for cutting-edge research will prove to be very beneficial, Prof Moona said.
