New Delhi: Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, has announced in Parliament that there is currently no proposal for centralised counselling for undergraduate or postgraduate medical courses.
The announcement came in response to a question from Kavitha Malothu, a Member of Parliament from Mahbubabad constituency, who inquired about the National Medical Commission (NMC) proposing a centralised counselling system for UG and PG admissions in medical colleges.
In response to the query, the Health Minister clarified that there are no plans for centralised counselling for undergraduate or postgraduate medical courses in the academic year 2023-24. He also mentioned that no changes have been made to the existing scheme of seat allocation to various quotas.
Currently, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) is responsible for conducting counselling for undergraduate (UG/MBBS) and postgraduate (PG) medical courses in India. The counselling process is based on the scores candidates achieve in NEET UG and NEET PG.
The counselling for UG courses includes 15% of all India quota seats, 100% of seats in Central Institutes/Universities and Deemed Universities, and 100% of seats in all the Institutes of National Importance (INI).
