Chandigarh University Emerges Victorious in Kehlo India University Games 2023-24

New Delhi: The Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023-24 concluded on February 29, 2024, in the seven sister states of Northeast India. The 4th edition of KIUG began on February 17, 2024 under the Khelo India initiative, which was set up to encourage playing sports from the grassroots level. 

This year, Chandigarh University (CU) came out on top by clinching 32 gold medals, 18 silver medals, and 21 bronze medals for a staggering 71 medals total. According to KIUG rules, the Chandigarh University team also walked away with the team title. Astoundingly, this is the first year that CU has managed to come into the top 10 institutes at KIUG 2023-24

Key Highlights of Kehlo India University Games 2023-24

There were a total of 770 medals - 240 gold, 240 silver, and 290 bronze - available to grab at the KIUG 2023-24. Around 4,500 athletes from more than 200 universities across India participated and clinched various titles in the KIUG 2023-24 edition.

In the previous edition of KUIG, CU came in at 11th rank. Before that, they held the 20th rank in the second edition and came in 34th in the first edition of KIUG. One can see the dedication of the university and its teams and athletes in every medal deservedly won in the 2023-24 edition of KIUG.

LPU and Guru Nanak Dev University Stood at 2nd & 3rd Place at KIUG 2024

Lovely Professional University (LPU) came in second at KIUG 2024. Their teams won 20 gold medals, 14 silver medals, and eight bronze medals for a whopping total of 42 medals. Third in line was Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar with a total of 51 medals - 12 gold medals, 20 silver medals, and 19 bronze medals. Guru Nanak Dev University was the only other varsity, apart from Chandigarh University, to cross the 50-medal mark. 

The title of “Most Successful Female Athlete” was clinched by Pratyasa Ray from Utkal University. She secured four gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. The title of “Most Successful Male Athlete” was taken by Xavier Michael Dsouza from Jain University. He won four gold medals.
