Ms. Nalina is the Assistant Professor at Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian Law College, Bengaluru. She has 14 years of teaching experience at this institution and a total of 17 years of teaching experience. She completed her LLM in the year 2007 in the area of Environment and Legal Order from Bangalore University in 2010. At present, she is pursuing her Ph.D. in the area of Marine Pollution. She has presented and attended workshops, national and international seminars. She is in charge of IQAC CELL, Legal Service Clinic, Environment Club, and Student Welfare. She has organized national festivals, National seminars, and various awareness programs.

What are the best practices in the course you’re offering?
Rapid technology advancements and new patterns of work have created a demand for various approaches in education. In order to develop a student-centered learning environment our institution has adopted old and new methods of teaching. Our institution offers impeccable facilities to the students so that they can be all-rounders. Students learn professional competencies, and each student is imparted systemic training such as mooting, mock trial, visits to jail, collaborating with NGOs on various socio-legal activities, visiting old age homes, interaction with downtrodden/ weaker sections of society through free legal aid through our legal services clinic at college and also have a permanent legal aid center at AnekalTaluk. We mold the student’s leadership qualities through their responsibility in the college student union.We not only impart legal education inside the campus but we conduct outreach programs with the help of various clubs and cells such as the Legal Service Clinic, NSS Unit, Youth Red Cross Cell, Environment Club, Placement Cell, Human Rights Cell, Fine arts club, Mediation Center, Sports Club, Social Service Club, etc., which facilitate students to develop skills, by conducting activities and awareness programs. Students have been trained to be paralegal volunteers and these volunteers assist work in collaboration with the Karnataka State Legal Services Authorities, District Legal Services,RERA andLokAdalat. The college encourages the students to publish articles and participate in debates, quizzes, Cultural Fests, Sports Tournaments, National and International Seminars, Workshops, and Moot Court Competitions.
What are some valuable insights into the program that you are offering at your institution?
The main motto of our institution is “Empower Women Empower India”, since its inception the institution has been imparting various teaching, learning, and practical training sessions through guest lectures from various professionals. We have access to facilities like Moot Court Club, Mediation Center, Cyber Law Certificate Course, Personality Development Programme, Internships, Career Guidance, Placement Cell, Client Counseling, etc., so that students are trained in networking and interaction with professionals.
How do you tend to build an industrial connection with this program?
The classrooms are facilitated with CCTV, projectors, classrooms with internet connections, and Wi-Fi campus. Our institution has a Computer lab, digital library facility, e-journals, etc. The institution has observed the usage of Internet facilities by the student and faculty for their research, seminars, presentations, and moot court competition preparation. Teachers and students are benefited by attending various guest lectures, and webinars by using hybrid mode. Institutions also use social platforms for various events to broadcast on YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?
The College NSS unit and Legal Services Clinic have assisted the DLSA in conducting a survey in 3 adopted villages. A Permanent Legal Services Clinic Center has been set up at Bengaluru Rural, AnekalTaluk, in association with District Legal Service Authority, Bengaluru, and District Legal Service Authority, AnekalTaluk. Legal Service Clinic, NSS Unit, and Environment Club volunteers in collaboration with District legal service authority are working on Save Lakes. Human Right Club sponsors free education to one girl child.
How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?
While students pursue a law degree at our institution we ensure that we prepare them for competitive exams, article writing, paper presentation, internship, counseling on higher studies, advice on taking up judiciary exams, career counseling, and personality development programs, encourage the students to take part in various competitions like mediation, mooting, client counseling, debate, model parliament, etc.
What are the factors that make this program the best for students to opt for?
Law is multidisciplinary in character; it touches lives on a daily basis. It governs what we can and cannot do. You could opt to study law after 12th by taking admission to the 5 years integrated law program viz., B.B.A., LL.B and 3 years L.L.B. program. Depending on the student's interest in the completion of a law degree they have various options like the judicial exam, Civil Services, litigation, corporate lawyering, legal advisors in companies, industries, banks, insurance NGO politics, entrepreneurship, etc., students could aim for JAG( Judge Advocate General), pursue masters (LLM) and join teaching.
