Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh - India’s first AI-augmented multidisciplinary university, hosted a one-day symposium on ‘AI in Governance: Policy, Practice, and People-Centric Transformation’ & during the symposium, the university took another significant step by launching the Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare & positioned itself as a future-focused institution & a thought leader. The CoE highlights the university’s growing role in integrating artificial intelligence in different domains, especially in healthcare.

This initiative perfectly aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s vision of amalgamating advanced technologies with AI to improve public healthcare systems & along with this, the Centre aims to foster faster diagnosis, better patient care, and more efficient healthcare delivery across the state.
During the profound symposium, Sh. Asim Arun Ji, Ex-IPS and Minister of State (Independent Charge), Social Welfare, UP Government, appreciated Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, for its consistent efforts in promoting AI-led development as he described the newly launched Centre of Excellence as a meaningful step toward strengthening healthcare services at scale. The Centre will operate under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Thipendra P Singh, Professor of AI and Pro Vice Chancellor, CU UP.
Adding to its achievements during the symposium, the university also introduced an AI Ethics Training Programme in collaboration with upGrad, with the aim of encouraging responsible and inclusive use of AI. Under the program, 1.50 lakh youth across Uttar Pradesh will be trained over the next five years, which will support the vision of CU UP’s advanced AI infrastructure, including a high-performance system powered by NVIDIA Blackwell Architecture with 168 GB GPU memory that will provide strong research and computing capabilities.
The Centre of Excellence in Smart Healthcare with a short-term goals to focus on collaborating with hospitals for model validation, research projects, and research publications. And in the next two years CoE will also assist five AI startups in the next two years.
Key research areas that will be focused on by the CoE include medical imaging and diagnostics such as X-rays, MRIs, and CT scans, along with predictive analytics, precision medicine & large healthcare datasets to promote technology-led research and innovation in healthcare services by integrating advanced technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, and other newer computing tools as the center aims to provide smarter, more efficient, and accessible healthcare solutions.
Collaboration remains at the core of this initiative with healthcare providers, hospitals, and other stakeholders to integrate AI-driven solutions into existing healthcare systems and workflows, while advancing research, education, and training in the field of smart healthcare.
The symposium at CU Lucknow also featured two crucial panel discussions, which were ‘AI Use Cases in Government: From Vision to Implementation’ and ‘Roadmap for AI-Enabled Governance’. These sessions brought together experts from academia and industry to share practical insights on how AI can transform governance and public services to bring great good for people.
The symposium hosted leading professionals & one of those was Dr. Amitabh Tewari, Head, Tata Consultancy Services (Lucknow & Indore), as a guest of honor, who highlighted that the university’s growth in Uttar Pradesh reflects the rise of an innovation-driven ecosystem similar to cities like Bengaluru and Chennai. He noted that institutions that will focus on AI and innovation will play an important role in driving the change & with world-class infrastructure and focus on AI and innovation, CU-UP has the potential to become a key growth hub, fostering entrepreneurship, creating intellectual property, and contributing meaningfully to India’s vision of a developed nation
Our Chief guest, Dr. Rahul K Singh, CEO, Innovation Cell, GIMS, Greater Noida, emphasised that it is essential that AI solutions reaching patients are clinically validated, safe, and led by doctors. Incubation centers, especially in Uttar Pradesh, will play a key role in supporting startups with the right data and guidance to build innovative and reliable solutions.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Thipendra P Singh, PVC, CU UP, shared that sectors like healthcare and governance are changing rapidly with the integration of AI & he also emphasised that the Centre of Excellence reflects the university’s commitment to making healthcare more accessible, efficient, and impactful. He further added that Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh, is building a strong ecosystem where academics, research, and industry work together to prepare future-ready professionals in health-tech and emerging technologies.
Through such initiatives, Chandigarh University, Uttar Pradesh continues to contribute to a larger vision, where innovation, technology, and human values come together to support the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047 and create meaningful impact in healthcare and governance.
