What factors, benefits, and career options make the BA program the best for the students to opt for, what are the best practices that you offer in this course to make students ready for the future?

Every subject has its own wide range of career opportunities but this should not be the only criteria to opt for a subject. The personal preference of the students should also be given importance in which they are interested. As far as the BA program is concerned, it is one of the most widely opted courses among learners. Our college offers it in various disciplines such as English, Hindi, History, Journalism, and Psychology.

Students become eligible for government jobs after they complete their B.A. which comes with excellent benefits and perks. Some roles that a B.A. student is eligible for are Executive Associates, HR Managers, Copywriters, Marketing Managers, Sales Directors.

After graduation, students can also consider preparing for Civil Services or higher education like a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Arts (MA) or Law. The Bachelor of Arts in English Literature is a three-year undergraduate programme that focuses on the in-depth study of English Literature and includes poetry, prose, essays, and many literary works.

Being a Faculty/ HOD of the English Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

Being a faculty of the English department, the roles and responsibilities assigned to me are very straightforward. Since English literature is a subject which helps you to become broad-minded in several aspects it becomes my role to open up the students minds. I think English literature gives students worldwide knowledge as well as a logical thinking ability to understand cultural and ethnic diversity.

Ethnicity can be identified as a group's shared cultural norms, while diversity refers to differentiating people based on age, sex, gender, culture, etc. My main task is to make the students aware of these topics along with bookish knowledge as just reading books is not enough. Students at this age are very confused about things and need career guidance from a counsellor.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to the real-world challenges?

Along with education, it is crucial to have extracurricular activities for the development of the students. Education increases our intellectual capacity but it is also necessary to have other qualities to achieve harmony in the real world. Students develop skills like leadership, confidence, talent exposure, and time management through our extracurricular activities. Through an environment of healthy competition at the college, students get a glimpse of real life which is critical to be prepared for work life. That's why we encourage our students to participate in these academic activities.

When you came to the college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

When I first arrived at the college, I had many ideas but my vision was clear about it. As a newcomer, I learned many new things, with the passage of time, which helped me greatly in dealing with this new responsibility. Regular attendance of the students in the class, maintaining their subjective interest was the result of the fact that I was giving my best to the role. I am continuing to improve and put in the effort so that I can give a better future to myself as well as my students. The main objective of my class is that the students should understand the subject matter and do not attempt rote learning.

What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

The main obstacle, for me, are the students themselves as some of them take the subject lightly or view it solely to complete their graduation. It is challenging to introduce them to the subject and to maintain their interest in it. For the upliftment of the quality of education of the subject, it is essential that the subject should be interesting and easy to understand. Apart from bookish knowledge, it is also important to update the student with global news.

With the globalized world and economy English is a language of priority please comment.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

If we talk about advice for a prosperous career, then my mantra is that knowledge of books is necessary to survive. However, this is not enough for real-life exposure. Students must use their logical and intellectual development, always keep updating themselves and never stop learning.
