Dr. N. Chitra is the Principal of PPG College of Education. She holds a Ph.D. in Tamil. Her area of expertise is Folklore. She has 31 years of experience in the teaching field. She has conducted various International Conferences, Seminars and Zonal Level Sports & Cultural meets. She has performed as a Convener and Chief Examiner in various examinations conducted by TamilNaduTeachers Education University. Further, under TNTEU she has been served as a member of the inspection committee, in ensuring continuous affiliation to the colleges.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often it is updated?

We abide by the regulations and curriculum framework of Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University. University authorities often update the syllabus for both B.Ed. and M.Ed. courses as per the norms. In order to strengthen the curriculum, we are conducting events such as seminars and workshops. Research colloquium was framed to create research interest among the students.


How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your institution?

We maintain healthy relations with the students and their peer group by conducting various activities such as National celebrations in commemoration with great leaders. Talents day provides a very good platform to exhibit their skills. Regional festivals celebrated to inculcate secularism, tradition, culture, and heritage with happiness, peace, and harmony and Organization of campaign on environmental awareness. 


How would you describe your leadership style?

We provide equal opportunities to all the faculty members, while making each and every decision regarding the development of our college. We also have great confidence in group decisions for all our proceedings. Positive attitude, continuous encouragement, significant contribution and prominent involvement of all the staff members help us to follow a transparent leadership style. 


Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real world challenges?

We prepare our students with versatile talents and skills by encouraging, supporting them in all the extra-curricular activities. Various extension activities which include blood donation camp, tree planting, temple and school campus cleaning and visit to orphanage would definitely enhance the helping tendency, cleanliness and environmental awareness among the students. 


What are some plans that you are currently (or will be) designing for students?

Teachers in the educational area believe that having the knowledge of philosophy is indispensable. We intend to hold debates, group discussions, and to promote student participation in cooperative learning. These items help to strengthen substantial growth and open the way for adopting moral principles.

What do you see as the college’s greatest strengths and how it can be enhanced?

An exemplary and renowned management is the greatest strength for our college. A well-equipped infrastructure facility, conducive environment, popularity among the alumni, influences the development of the college. Highly experienced, hardworking and well qualified faculties are strength for the institution.


What valuable advice would you like to give the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

We advise our students to take social responsibility, to develop tolerance, to maintain cordial relationships with their colleagues and higher officials. Since we are running a teacher education institution, our students are encouraged to maintain punctuality, flawless content delivery, adaptation of technology in teaching etc. They are also informed to understand the backgrounds of their students to provide equality in all aspects. They are informed to update themselves periodically to have a prosperous career. 


How does your college prepare students for placements?

Our college prepares the students for placements by providing exposure in different areas. We provide various opportunities to develop communication skills by using spoken English classes and language laboratories. We train them to acquire the knowledge of educational technology which would help the students in incorporating the teaching-learning process. We offer personality development programs by experts to enhance their level of confidence and to upshot the ability in solving aptitude based tasks. Students are also trained in recent teaching methods like flipped learning, game based learning, inquiry based learning etc. to face the placement requirements.


What do you think should be the College’s top priority over the next ten years?

We prioritize fostering the hard and soft skills among our young budding teachers to shape the future of their wards. The curriculum should include numerous extra-curricular activities to acknowledge the talents and potential of our students. We are about to give more importance in organizing workshops, conferences and events which helps the sustainable development of the teacher community. We are going to strengthen the programmes which would support the graduates in self-employment and entrepreneurship.


What was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same?

To bestow excellent teacher education, to ignite students with an urge for research and development with an aim to inculcate the habit of independent and innovative teaching, also in imparting teacher education, to compete globally and raise the socio-economic standard of the nation. We are striving hard to achieve the same with the cooperation of management, staff and students. With the moral support of the management, hardworking tendency of faculties, ultimate performance of the students, abundant availability of resources, we tend to accomplish the goals.
