Dr. Vijay Kumar Chaurasia is an Assistant Professor and the Head of the Department of Commerce at Gautam Buddha Degree College. He holds a PhD in Commerce, an M.Com., an M.A. in Economics, and an M.Ed. degree. Moreover, he has qualified for the UGC NET in Commerce. Dr. Chaurasia has over eight years of experience, during which he has published five research papers in national and international journals.

What is the latest program that you are offering in your institute/dept. which will help students outperform and stand apart from the crowd?

Commerce subjects are about the budgeting and tax systems in India. From non-professional to professional courses, our department has various courses covering different commerce subject areas. Along with that, we provide career guidance to students as well. We have talent clubs for students and also initiate big practices to inculcate values in students.


What are the factors that make this program the best for the students to opt?

Our college’s approach is towards the holistic development of its students, the creation of a global knowledge eco-system through innovations, research and development, substantial industry exposure, good placement opportunities and great infrastructure. We also aim for fantastic results that make students opt for this institution. Our college provides international exposure as students are provided with a stage to showcase their talent and to learn as well.


What are the best practices in the course you’re offering?

Our college works with individual students to address their issues and train them in depth. Every session, we adopt a new best practice for the betterment of the students. One such practice that our college has implemented is to improve economic growth. Our college recognises its social responsibility; therefore, we work with the purpose of creating more awareness about higher education and promoting it for which the institute has organized several best practices.


What are some valuable insights of the program that you are offering at your institute/dept.?

At our college, we provide students with every opportunity to sharpen their skills and talents. We aim for the holistic development of students for which we have different clubs for extracurricular activities as well. We provide students with the facility to publish their research papers and also conduct seminars on topics like sustainable development and workshops on the budget and the tax system in India.


How does the program ensure that students are being prepared for the future?

We have numerous clubs at our college. These clubs cover various activities such as dance, art, sports, and artificial intelligence accounting software like Tally. Through these clubs, we focus on an individual and consider which activities to hold that will help polish their interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.

How did you train yourself/faculty to deliver this program to the students?

The institute and the individual departments provide a learning environment to the faculty members through different Faculty Development Programs. We also encourage them to attend and organise our own seminars, workshops and certified courses. We have well-qualified faculty members, some of whom are PhD holders and are actively taking part in research.


How do you tend to build an industry connect with this program?

Building an industry connection during the B.Com. program involves networking, internships, and industry projects. Students often get the chance to meet professionals in the field, and gain practical experience through internships. They also work on real projects with industry partners. It's a fantastic way to learn and make valuable connections.


What were the challenges that you faced while inculcating this program in your curriculum?

The challenges that we have faced are diverse educational backgrounds of students, and limited resources in terms of economic situation. Sometimes, providing students with real-world exposure through internships, industry projects, and guest lectures can be challenging, especially if there are limited industry collaborations. Integrating soft skills, such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving, into a predominantly technical curriculum can also be one of the challenges.


What are the types of projects that the students are working on through this program?

A Commerce degree provides a broad understanding of various aspects of commerce, business, and finance. Students prepare their projects, assignments, research papers, and dissertations and learn new things throughout.

Graduates with a Commerce degree have diverse career prospects in different industries such as Accounting and Auditing, Finance and Banking, Marketing and Sales, Human Resources (HR), Management and Administration. Students can also pursue Entrepreneurship, E-commerce and Digital Marketing, Supply Chain Management, International Business, Public Relations and Communications, Taxation and Financial Planning.
