Mrs. Ranju Sutar

Being a Faculty of the HGEA, Bokaro, what are your roles and responsibilities toward the students?

First of all, as faculty members, we all have the responsibility of teaching. So, I would like to say that the teacher is known by the way he teaches in the class program. And that is one of the neglected parts, I am sorry to say. These days, most teachers, concentrate more on research and less on teaching. But we must remember that teachers who we admire so much. They are known as teachers only because of their classroom teaching and whatever research output they had, it was based on their teaching and also on their extensive study. Extensive and also intensive study. So, their research depended on classroom teaching. So, classroom teaching is the main responsibility of a faculty member anywhere in the world. Then comes the responsibility of teaching and thereafter the responsibility of some administrative activities. Not full-time administrators, but part-time administrators.

When you first came to this college, what was your vision for the university? Has it evolved over time, and how far along in implementing that vision are you?

My vision has always been to integrate teaching with everyday experiences of life. So, teaching has to depend on textbook knowledge or the kind of knowledge that we have gained from our research, etc. It has to be integrated with our everyday experiences. And that has always guided me in my teaching. my goal is to align my teaching with daily experiences so that students can better relate to the examples and concepts presented in the classroom. So, my teaching philosophy is guided by such experiences and how my everyday experiences enhance my teaching.

How do you tend to establish a healthy relationship and environment in your college?

Yes, that is quite a tricky issue, and faculty members often complain about their students, etcetera. But I never find that there is anything to complain about the students. The teacher has to understand the psychology of the students like their parents. So, I may call a teacher the third parent. Besides the father and mother, the third parent of the student. Because in the classroom they spend lots of time with both the teacher and the student. So, the responsibility is on both sides. But the responsibility of the teacher is more than their students and this responsibility has to be carried out properly.

How do you help your students to cope with the competition being so high in the outside world?

Yes, I always tell my students that deserve first then desire. First, you have to make yourself competent and eligible for the competition. That’s why we introduce a subject like soft skills, which enhances linguistic skills and communicative skills. A communicative ability is something that helps one to overcome many disturbances in life. It helps us come up with plans. So, if you want to be trimarans one has to cultivate the soft skills of one's life besides the regular hard skills that mean the subject knowledge. In today's world subject knowledge is not enough. Multinational corporations operate in different countries making soft skills crucial for success. Communicative ability & attitude, Attitude is one thing that helps you to overcome many evils of life. If we have cultivated a positive attitude, it becomes quite easy for us to approach anything. So, subjects like soft skills are much more important nowadays. Public speaking is also one subject that helps you to improve your presenting skills which is very much required nowadays. So, all these subjects & teaching can help them to overcome many things in their lives.

What are the challenges you are facing to uplift the quality of your department?

Yes, quite a good question. The number of students is growing every day, and while the expansion of educational opportunities is positive, we are falling behind on infrastructure development. So infrastructure facility has to be increased and the government has to take care of these things so that when we increase the number of students, there should be infrastructure development as well. More classrooms have to be provided, more faculty members should be included without any limit.

So whenever there is a need for evaluation, the government can conduct a kind of audit. That means one institute can audit another institute. Infrastructural development has to be there, so it is quite a challenge for government institutes, especially when they try to grow in infrastructure. Adequate funds must be allocated to government institutes for infrastructural development, especially compared to private institutes. "The Department of Humanities & Social Sciences has been successfully running a Master of Social Work program for the last few years. We have recruited faculty members from the best-known Institutes and Universities for the program, and our students are getting employed in top government and non-government organizations in the country."

Any suggestion you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?

Yes, I would like to say something to young people in today's world, you have history, so many technological innovations around you. That means in the last twenty years I can see that there has been such a technological revolution everywhere, an information revolution in its greater stage. Yeah, you are loaded with information rather than overloaded with information. Now how to select the relevant information, and how to get your focus properly. It is You have to ask about your concerns. You have to be self-conscious. So be conscious self. Do something for society. Whatever you do, like when you are getting educated for an engineering degree or a medical degree, your society is paying for you. You have to remember it. So, in return, you have to pay society, you have to give something to society, and do something for society. There are many areas, even in the twenty-first century, many great years, which have to be looked after properly. And these young people like you can come forward and apply those loopholes in society. So, devote yourself. Whatever you do, you spend some time, you spare some time for society.
