Dr. Deepak Jyoti has been working as the Head of PG Department of Computer Science and IT at Shanti Devi Arya Mahila College, Gurdaspur, Punjab. She has done B.Tech, MCA and PhD from Desh Bhagat University of Punjab as part of her education. And she has an amazing 28 years of teaching experience. She is also working as the coordinator of Youth Welfare Department, Placements Cell and IQAC. She has published 30+ research papers in various reputed national and international level journals like Scopus indexed and UGC and has also presented papers in various international and national conferences and seminars. Apart from this, she is a member of the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering Department of GNDU, Amritsar. She is an NSS program Officer as well.

Which latest program your college is offering to students to help them stand apart from the crowd?

Our college is currently offering a full-time and 3 years duration B.Voc Degree course in the discipline of Software Development. In addition to this, we have recently introduced a new B. Voc program in Ecommerce and Digital Marketing and both the courses are skill oriented and have the capabilities to prepare students in accordance with the demands of the current world scenarios.

The students pursuing B.Voc courses in the domain of Software Development will have a bright future both in India as well as abroad as competent professionals are in high demand these days due to the evolution of the software industry and upcoming technologies. And graduates post finishing our course can work with government and international organizations as Computer Applications Specialists, Account Assistants, Software Testers, Mobile Application Developers, Computer Programmer, Application Developer, Web Application Developer, Software Analyst, Software Designer, Software Application Executive and also as Code Developer. So overall the associated growth and career opportunities make the courses of our college worth pursuing students.

What will you say are the best practices of the courses students are currently pursuing at your institute?

We firmly believe that along with imparting the best quality theoretical knowledge to students, it's equally important for us as an educational institution to make sure that they receive required practical exposure as well because then only they will grasp concepts in a better way. Hence we regularly conduct demonstration sessions using open-source tools and we do have an amazing team of highly educated and experienced faculty members to teach students. Last but not the least, industry experts are called upon on a requirements basis to educate our students and share the latest trends and needs of industries from our young minds.

What are some valuable insights of the programs that your college is offering to ambitious youths?

The courses which we offer to our students are both skills oriented as well as employment driven and are also capable enough to give deep insights to students about the needs of the corporate world. Apart from this, hands-on training sessions are regularly conducted by us in collaboration with industry people and using the latest tools and techniques.

How do the courses of your college ensure the future readiness of students?

For the purpose of ensuring the future preparedness of students through our courses, we generally invite industry experts and leaders to meetings of Board of Studies Members in order to take inputs and suggestions from them on how we can develop such a curriculum that is compliant with requirements and standards of both industry and education sector. Apart from this, we have established Industry - Incubation Centers on the college campus and guest lectures are regularly held in alliance with industry people whom we generally invite as Guest Speakers. We also offer the best internship opportunities to students in good companies.

How did you train your faculty members in accordance with industry standards and requirements?

To train our faculty members, we have certain programs already in place including the Industry Know-How Program. And teachers regularly connect with each other through knowledge-sharing sessions and dispense their learnings. Apart from all this, industry experts are invited on a regular basis to educate our faculty members on the latest trends and technologies through interactive learning sessions.

How do you build a strong connection between your college courses and industry requirements?

For the purpose of linking our courses and industrial demands, we regularly connect with industry leaders and experts and our Alumni play a major role and help us to connect with industry people on a regular basis for the placement of our students.

On what kinds of projects your students are currently working on under their respective courses?

The B.Voc Software Development program combines theory with project work. And the main objective behind assigning projects to students is to ensure that they remain in touch with the coding languages and techniques of building an application using the same. And if I talk about specific projects, many of our students at present are developing many amazing apps, running tests for the beta versions, and others are doing projects based on Android Task Monitoring apps and various automated software systems.

What career options would be available for students after pursuing B. Voc course from your college?

B.Voc Software Development is a job-oriented program with a focus on imparting hands-on skills with a view to making students employable in the IT sector or with organizations having IT operations and requirements. Hence after pursuing B.Voc Degree course in Software Development, students can start their own venture in areas like Web or Mobile Development or they can work as a full time Website Developer, UI Developer, UX Developer, Graphics Designer or as a Software Tester in companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Deloitte, JP Morgan, Adobe and Oracle etc. with an average salary package of INR 4.5 to 8 LPA.
