Dr.Karthikeyan is serving as the HOD of the Civil Engineering department at Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Engineering. With several years of teaching experience at various national-level institutions, he has utilised innovative teaching methods to encourage student learning objectives. Also, he has published a number of research papers in various journals and has attended several seminars, workshops, and conferences. She has completed many NPTEL certifications as well.

What suggestions would you like to give to the current youth and aspiring students? 

To the current youth and aspiring students, I would strongly emphasise the importance of building a strong foundation in your chosen field. Your academic journey is not just about acquiring degrees; it's about mastering the fundamentals. Alongside this, focus on honing your communication skills, as effective communication is the key to success in any sphere. Develop a growth mindset, embrace challenges as opportunities, and continuously seek ways to improve. Remember, learning is a lifelong process, so stay curious and open-minded. Equip yourself with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. By doing so, you will be well-prepared to navigate the ever-evolving professional landscape and stand out in a competitive world.

They are actively working on water management projects that address critical issues related to water conservation, distribution, and quality. Additionally, they are collaborating on industry projects that tackle real-world challenges faced by the construction and infrastructure sectors. These projects are designed to enhance their practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of industry dynamics. By working on such projects, our students are gaining valuable experience and contributing to the advancement of their field.

When you joined this Institute, what was your vision for it and how are you trying to achieve the same? 

When I joined this esteemed institute, my vision was to mold our students into socially responsible and well-equipped individuals, ready to contribute to both society and the nation. I aimed to provide them with a high-quality education that not only empowers them with technical skills but also instills ethical values and a sense of community responsibility. To achieve this, we have designed a curriculum that emphasises practical learning, fosters critical thinking, and encourages active participation in societal and environmental initiatives. Through workshops, seminars, and projects, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge and mindset needed to make a positive impact on the world around them.

What approaches do you bring in apart from curriculum to teach the students? 

We strongly believe in providing a well-rounded education to our students that goes beyond textbooks and labs. Our faculty members bring diverse teaching approaches into the classroom. We encourage interactive sessions, case studies, group discussions, and real-world problem-solving exercises. We also invite industry experts for guest lectures to provide practical insights into the field. Additionally, field trips, workshops, and hands-on training are organised to bridge the gap between theory and practise. These varied approaches not only enhance their technical knowledge but also nurture their analytical thinking, communication skills, and overall personality development.

What is your leadership philosophy?

In my view, leadership involves guiding the team towards a shared goal while nurturing individual growth. I believe a leader should have a clear vision for the department's development and inspire the team to align with it. My leadership philosophy revolves around fostering an environment of collaboration, respect, and continuous learning. Open communication and approachability are paramount. By demonstrating strong values and ethical principles, I aim to create an atmosphere where everyone feels empowered, motivated, and confident in their roles, thus contributing to the collective success.
