Mr. R. Ramesh is the HOD of the CSE Department at KKR & KSR Institute of Technology & Sciences, Andhra Pradesh. He is a distinguished academician and able administrator with more than 20 years of experience. He has grown from the ranks right here in the institute, starting his teaching career as a Lecturer in the year 2003. Prior to assuming the position of the HOD, he was a Professor at KKR & KSR Institute of Technology & Sciences. He is pursuing his Ph.D. from the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar and his Master’s Degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi. 

He has published 15 research papers in various reputed National and International journals, besides a couple of patents to his credit. In his impressive teaching and administrative career, He has consistently promoted innovative teaching practices and imaginative thinking. He has endeared himself to his students and colleagues alike through his affable nature and empathetic leadership style.

Being a HEAD OF DEPARTMENT of COLLEGE, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

To oversee the smooth functioning of the department and ensure consistent provision for academic ambiance. To manage and motivate all departmental staff, to enable the students to receive skilled education in the subject, in a positive, encouraging and effective working environment.


How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty? 

A few ways to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty are: 

  • Spend 1-on-1 Time with a Student.
  • Look for Something to Comment On.
  • Develop an Interest in Their Interests.
  • Share Your Stories.
  • Have a Sense of Humour.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make it industry-oriented

A practical approach to teaching is a form of instruction that promotes hands-on learning, real-world application, and problem solving. It entails going beyond theoretical principles and immersing students in hands-on activities that allow them to actively participate in, investigate, and experience the subject matter.


What are the best practices offered by the department to the students that help them gain the necessary skills? 

The department offers students services like counselling, placement training support, personality grooming, Corporate Lectures, seminars, guest lectures, CSI activities, internships etc. along with Communicating high expectations and encouraging increased interaction between students and faculty, developing reciprocity and cooperation among students, encouraging active learning with advanced teaching tools, giving prompt feedback to staff and students and Emphasizing tasks on time with total quality management.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often does it get updated to make it befitting for the students? 

  • Describe your vision, focus, objectives, and student needs.

What are your views upon the placements and higher education about the students from your department or how does your department prepare students for Higher education?

The placement phase in college allows them to choose whether they want to get into the working industry right away or focus on a further degree. Campus placement, on the other hand, might be the best option if you want to start working and gain industry experience. Pursuing higher education may be a better option if they want to work in Academia or Research.


How do you help your student to cope up with the competition being so high in the outside world? 

Some of the ways to help the student cope with the competition being so high in the outside world are: 

  • Improving Teamwork and Collaboration.
  • Providing Intrinsic Motivation.
  • Teaching Them to Deal with Losing.
  • Mental Toughness.

Do you have any extracurricular activities/ programs to enhance the skills of the students or expose them to real-world challenges?

Students who participate in extra activities get better grades. This is because of the skills they learn from participating in different activities. Students learn to manage time, organizational skills and improve self-confidence. Students also learn to express themselves in a better way.


What are the challenges you faced/ are facing to uplift the quality of education of your department?

One of the main challenges facing the education system in India is unequal access to education. Another challenge is an imbalance between the efficiency, the pace of learning, quality, and overall learning experience in offline and online classes. There is a huge demand for lifelong learning to cope with social and technological changes.

When you came to the college, what was your vision and how are you trying to achieve the same? 

I came to college in 2008, and the vision is “To become a reputed center in Computer Science and systems engineering for quality, competency and social responsibility.”


How does the curriculum of your department/college ensure the best practice of the industry? 

  • Give all stakeholders a view of the curriculum.
  • Identify redundancies and gaps in your curriculum.
  • Track and report on your different teaching types.
  • Demonstrate that your curriculum covers “real-time topics” and get them to curriculum mapping.

How does the department/ college/University enhance the skills of the faculty and prepare them according to the industry standards? 

Allowing the faculty to attend different FDPs, workshops, seminars, and webinars across various engineering colleges and encouraging the faculty to research recent techniques.
