How do you ensure the student has holistic exposure not just academics?

We at AIP organize periodic guest lectures/seminars/workshops which help students to get a better understanding of the course framework and to nurture them to best suit the requirement of the corporate and pharma industry. Therefore, we emphasize skill training and work on developing the soft skills of students.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and how do students get practical experience from studying the subject?

The practical aspect, of course, is duly taken care of by the prescribed syllabus as per PCI guidelines. Students are trained accordingly for each subject during the lab hours prescribed. Students are also associated with respective faculty members for their project work where they get exposure to various experimental work relevant to pharmaceutical sciences.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students which help them gain the necessary skills?

We at AIP are committed to providing not only quality education but also training students to make them market ready after their course. We organize skill training workshops in collaboration with the pharma industry, corporates, and academia. Various resource persons are invited from across the various domains of pharmaceutical sciences such as retail, marketing, manufacturing, hospitals, and IPR. We sent our students to hospitals like Medanta, Paras, and Fortis for summer internships, we also sent our students to pharmaceutical manufacturing plants for summer internships. Our students also get training for retail pharmacists in one of the leading players of this domain such as TATA 1mg.

How do you help your student cope with the competition being so high in the outside world?

We periodically organize mentor-mentee sessions for our students wherein the students are counseled by our competent faculty members. The students are encouraged to adopt some extracurricular activities/ hobbies apart from their structured coursework. So that they could be engaged in some productive work beyond their syllabus. We motivate them to participate in sports activities, seminars & club activities. As Amity University Haryana itself is committed to developing a holistic personality of students under its academic setup and mandate, so we also align ourselves with the same goal and spirit.

What do you see as the department’s/ college’s greatest strengths and how is it helping students to excel?

Our biggest strength is competent faculty members. All the faculty members are well qualified and hold Ph.D. degrees from some of the most prestigious institutes such as NIPER, Punjab University, Jamia Hamdard, BIT Mesra, and Manipal University. The faculty members are committed to research and innovation. The productivity of AIP could be understood in a way that in a short span of time since its inception, it has filed more than 32 patents, published more than 65 publications, edited 4 international Books, and grabbed two extramural grants. We have registered/admitted 23 Ph.D. students so far. Recently AIP also gets approval for M.Pharm. course in one of the subjects Pharmaceutics. Therefore, in the coming days, AIP certainly would register its emphatic presence in the scientific fraternity.

What valuable advice would you like to the students for them to have a prosperous career ahead?

I would like to suggest students that always work on their skill sets and have a positive mindset. There is no substitute for hard work. Students should strive for excellence in all spheres of life. They should inculcate the habit of punctuality, and discipline and should have empathy for society. Pharmacy being an integral part of the healthcare system, pharmacy graduate students should be dynamic, informative, knowledgeable, and skillful to cater to the need of society. Students should develop\a passion for their profession.
