You have held key positions at education institutes throughout your professional career. What keeps you connected with the Education Sector and how has your experience been so far with the institute?
I was born and brought up in Marathwada Region which is known for drought and undeveloped region in Maharashtra. My school education and college was completed in my native place Jawalga. At the time of my education, my family was going through various financial problems therefore I had to complete my studies under tough conditions. But I was determined and I came to Pune, completed my M.com and became a professor in Annasaheb Magar College , Hadapsar, Pune . At that time, pune was not affordable to live for the students of Marathwada, the living facilities were very costly and most of the students came from economically weaker sections of the Society. This was noticed by Chief Minister of Maharashtra late Shri. ShankarraoChavan and he started the Marathwada Mitra Mandal trust specifically for such students. I believe this is what inspired me to work tirelessly in the education sector as it was important for me to provide top tier education to the students who come from a poor background but equally deserve quality education. And this purpose led to the foundation of several other educational institutions in the heart of Pune College of Architecture and College of Commerce.
- College of Architecture
- School of Interior Design and Decoration
- College of Commerce (P.G.Section, Senior, Junior, Vocational Wing, BBA, BFT Programmes and DCJ, MCJ)
- Institute of Management Education Research and Training
- Vidya Mandir, Kalewadi
- M.M.ShankarraoChavan Law College
- M.M.College of Pharmacy
- M.M.College of Engineering &
- M.M.Polytechnic
Now, talking about my experience with the institute, Its been a uphill but the most rewarding task establishing college near well established and reputed colleges like FC, BMMCC, Garware, Modern college etc, was immensely challenging and we always had to try our best to compete with these institutes and create a name of our own. But now we can proudly say that our colleges also hold the same type of respect and command as these other institutions. The road to come this far required relentless efforts but now that we are at this position, I can say it was all worth it.

Being a member of all these professional bodies has taught me a lot about the current industry and how it works. I believe this is how I am able to always think and take a rather practical approach towards all the subjects for the benefit of my students and help make it industry oriented. I make sure that our college always ties up with multinational companies to provide the best practical exposure for our students so they can be acquainted with the current industry thoroughly. In fact only recently, at our Karve Nagar Engineering college, we developed a centre for invention, innovation and incubation (MCIII) in joint collaboration with Tata Technology and Science and Technology Park which is a huge project with over 200 million rupees investment excluding space and infrastructure. This has highly benefited the students of our college as it provided them a platform to enhance their skills with the use of the latest technology equipment in their own space.
One more thing I would like to mention over here, there are more than 250 students who have been awarded CA/CS and now they are helping our current students by giving them article ship and internships. Hence, collaboration with industrial houses work on many folds and is driven with strong purpose.
What are the interventions and approaches you bring in apart from curriculum to train/teach the students?
I have always thought that it is very necessary to be a good person and give back whatever we can to the society that we grow up in. Therefore, we make sure to teach the students the importance of social work and to always provide for the society we live in. It is essential that we make our world a better place and we feel it is the responsibility of education institutions to impart this valuable knowledge to our students and make them better people. To ensure that, we encourage our students to take part in NSS which conducts various social activities like Swatchata Abhiyan, street awareness plays, blood donation camps, etc.We believe in empowering our college girls to face todays’ world challenges with confidence. Hence, especially for girls we have established Priyadarshani Yuvti Munch wherein distinguished personalities are called to motivate our girls. Every year we hold a separate event for them wherein they showcase their talents with full enthusiasm and thus it builds self-assurance in themselves.

I think the greatest strength of the Marathwada Mitra Mandal is its people, because of which it works seamlessly. Be it the management people, teachers, the non teaching staff, or the alumni of the college. Most of our alumni have become very famous and successful, some own huge companies while some work abroad , however none of them have forgotten or left behind our college. Even from our journalism department there are many students who have become a reporter, editor in renowned newspapers or broadcasting on television or on social media platforms. I must say that they are a huge helping hand to our institution. Apart from this there are many eminent personalities that are connected to our institution which we can proudly also call as our strengths. WE operate with the inclusive approach philosophy and hence value professional integrity from all our stakeholders.
What are some of the biggest challenges you see, both for higher education in general and for Marathwada Mitra Mandal, Pune, specifically?
I cannot say there are any specific challenges for higher or general education in Marathwada Mitra Mandal because we try to provide the best education and facilities to our students here. My only hope is that the students will take full gain of this and not waste their precious years thoughtlessly. Talking generally, I feel there is still a lot we can do for the education of boys and girls who come from poverty and rural areas. It is important to spread awareness about the significance of education to such places and try to provide at least basic education to them.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students?
I honestly believe that today's generation is very intelligent and mature. Especially in the urban areas, the students have all the opportunities necessary to lead a successful and fulfilling life. My only hope is that instead of wasting their time on things like mobile phones, games and other electronic gadgets they should focus on their education and do something constructive with their time. They should find their passion and make their dreams come true by working tirelessly as in the end this is how they will be able to lead a happy life.
