Damodara Reddy Kavalakuntla has been working as the Head of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at Scient Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana since June 2022. He is a dedicated professional with a robust academic background and a career objective focused on securing challenging roles for continual technical skill enhancement. As part of his education, he has done B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and M.Tech. in Power Electronics. He started his professional journey with Sri Indu College of Engineering and Technology as an Assistant Professor and later on worked for Vardhaman College of Engineering, and Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Institute of Technology. Till date, he has published 8 research papers in various international journals and his active participation in faculty development programs underscores his dedication to stay updated with the current trends, technologies and developments of the EEE field.

Which latest programs your college is offering to students at present to help them outperform?

At present, we are offering an enriching learning program to our students in order to enhance their skills and set them apart in today’s competitive landscape. In addition to this, we have integrated NPTEL courses of SWAYAM into our comprehensive curriculum to help students delve deeper into a wide variety of subjects. Last but not the least, we actively promote their participation in GATE preparation so that they can excel in their academic pursuits and beyond.

Our program stands out as an excellent choice for students for a multitude of reasons. First and foremost, the NPTEL courses which we offer to students are carefully curated to provide them a robust foundation of Engineering and ensure that they acquire essential skills over-time to work in an ever-evolving industrial world. In other words, our courses are nothing but an investment for students' bright future. Additionally, our emphasis on GATE preparation goes beyond just exam readiness as it instills in students the resilience and competitive edge needed for pursuing core jobs and also foster a spirit of excellence by equipping students to excel in competitive exams. Our institution has adopted a set of exemplary practices to provide amazing educational experience to students and establish a strong connection between our programs and industry demands. Firstly, we actively encourage collaboration and interdisciplinary research among departments and with other institutions as well. Then we have a well-structured curriculum that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills and keeps our students and fellow faculty updated about current trends and technologies of various industries. Lastly, we promote innovation and entrepreneurship on campus through hands-on projects, cultivating a creative mindset and preparing students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving professional landscape.

Our Electrical and Electronics Engineering program is designed to impart valuable insights and produce graduates who are not only competent but also globally relevant. And our prime goal is to equip our students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in diverse industries and organizations, both on a national and global level. How do the programs of your college ensure the future preparedness of students?

For the purpose of ensuring the future preparedness of our students, we regularly integrate the latest technological advancements of the industrial and educational world in the curriculum in the form of new full-time and value-based courses. In addition to this, for improving employment opportunities for students, we provide them all kinds of training programs and industrial exposure. Entrepreneurship support is also available for students so that they can experiment freely with their innovative ideas and be job givers in future. 


How did you train your department faculty to help them efficiently deliver programs to students?

Our college has prioritized the continuous skills development of our faculty members so that they can effectively deliver the courses to our students. Hence we encourage them to regularly participate in a diverse range of Faculty Development Programs so that they can enhance their expertise in their respective subjects and also learn new pedagogical techniques which can be modified from time to time as per students' needs.


How do you build a strong connection between your department courses and industry demands?

In order to develop a comprehensive understanding of industry needs and pain points in students and bridge the gaps between academia and the corporate world, NPTEL courses are offered to students and we also engage them with industry professionals to gain insights and build relationships through networking events, conferences, and online forums on a regular basis. Last but not the least, we have signed MoUs with renowned companies including Telangana Association for Skill and Knowledge to organize various programs like workshops, webinars, seminars, faculty development programs and Hackathons etc. 


On what types of projects students of your department usually work on?

Our students work on very cool and innovative projects throughout the year including IOT in power systems, Electrical vehicles, new trends in battery technology and multilevel converters etc. And we provide our complete support and guidance to them for everything. 


What benefits and career options would be available to students after pursuing an EEE course from your college?

In my opinion, pursuing a 4-years B.Tech course in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from our college will open the doors of diverse career options for students. And beyond imparting comprehensive knowledge to students and equipping them with much needed skills, it empowers them to excel in competitive exams, spanning both the core and software industries. To be more specific, they can work as a Power Engineer, Control System Engineer, Micro Electrical Engineer, Telecommunication Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer or CAD Engineer and earn an average salary of INR 3 LPA.
