Being a HOD of the ECE Department, what are your roles and responsibilities towards the students?

As the Head of the ECE Department, my responsibilities are multifaceted. I ensure that the academic curriculum is meticulously followed and that students' concerns are addressed promptly. My primary focus is to groom our students to be industry-ready and equip them with the necessary skills for immediate employment upon graduation. To achieve this, we consistently update our courses and subjects to align with the latest industry trends, ensuring that our students possess the relevant technical knowledge and skills to excel in their careers.

How do you tend to establish healthy relations with the students and fellow faculty?

To foster healthy relations with both students and fellow faculty, I employ a multi-faceted approach. Regular meetings with faculty members are crucial to maintain effective communication and ensure that everyone is on the same page. Addressing the students every week helps in building rapport and keeping them informed about departmental developments. Organizing various events, including workshops, paper presentations, and extracurricular activities, provides students with opportunities for holistic growth.

Additionally, maintaining an open-door policy and regularly meeting with class representatives creates a platform for addressing concerns and resolving issues promptly. Being accessible and approachable to all stakeholders is key to establishing and nurturing healthy relationships in the academic environment.

How do you try to bring in a practical approach towards subjects and make them industry-oriented?

Our institution, as an autonomous entity, places a strong emphasis on bringing practicality and industry relevance to our subjects. We actively engage our Board of Studies, which includes industry professionals, to gain insights into the industry's requirements and trends. Their input plays a pivotal role in shaping our curriculum and subjects. We integrate their valuable suggestions to ensure our educational programs are aligned with real-world demands.

Furthermore, we regularly invite industry experts to deliver lectures and talks to our students. These interactions provide students with industry perspectives and help us continuously refine our curriculum to maintain its industry-oriented focus.

What are the best practices offered by the department to the students that help them gain the necessary skills?

In our department, we employ several best practices to equip our students with the necessary skills. Blended learning and participatory methods are integral to our teaching approach. Role plays and interactive sessions are routinely conducted in the classes to foster practical understanding. In line with industry expectations, we maintain a strict no-cell-phone policy during classes, ensuring an undistracted learning environment.

Our lab facilities are equipped with innovative and up-to-date technology, allowing students hands-on experience with the latest tools. Case studies are extensively used to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving. Moreover, internships are a compulsory part of our curriculum, bridging the gap between academics and industry, and ensuring students are job-ready upon graduation.

How do you strategize the curriculum and how often does it get updated to make it befitting for the students?

In our autonomous institution, we have the flexibility to design and update our curriculum to meet the evolving needs of our students and industry. We take this responsibility seriously and ensure that our curriculum is aligned with the latest industry trends while adhering to our affiliated university's regulations. Regular meetings of our board of studies, which includes industry professionals, provide valuable insights into the necessary changes. Moreover, we actively seek feedback from our students, enabling us to adapt our curriculum to their requirements, and ensuring it remains dynamic and relevant in the ever-changing field of technology.

What are your views on the placements and higher education of the students from your department? How does your department prepare students for Higher education?

We're proud to see our students achieving admission to prestigious international universities. To prepare them for higher education, we regularly conduct career guidance programs, helping students navigate competitive exams like GRE, TOEFL, and IELTS. Additionally, we've established partnerships with coaching institutes, offering specialized training for these exams. We also support students with recommendation letters for admissions. In terms of placements, our T-hub provides valuable training in the latest software developments, resulting in certifications for students. Through these combined efforts, we have achieved a commendable placement record of 80% to 90%. We remain committed to guiding our students toward bright futures, whether in higher education or the workforce.

How do you help your student cope with the competition being so high in the outside world?

We equip our students to thrive in a competitive world by exposing them to real-world assignments and projects that develop the skills needed in their respective fields. Through hands-on experience, they learn to navigate challenges and gain practical insights.

Additionally, we emphasize both soft skills and technical abilities, ensuring they stand out in the industry and excel during interviews. Our goal is to foster well-rounded professionals who are well-prepared to tackle the competitive landscape outside our institution.
