Dr. Pandi. Chiranjeevi is currently serving as the HOD CSE(Data Science) at the ACE Engineering College. Dr. Pandi. Chiranjeevi has a diverse professional background, including teaching, industry, and research. He has one year of industry experience at Relgo Software Solution, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. Additionally, he has guided more than 20 M.Tech thesis dissertations and over 35 B.Tech thesis dissertations.

Furthermore, Dr. Chiranjeevi has participated in 42 workshops, conferences, and seminars in India. He served as the Co-Convener for the national FDP (Faculty Development Program) on Design and Analysis of Algorithms conducted by ACE College of Engineering, Hyderabad from December 1st to 3rd, 2015.

Dr. Chiranjeevi completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from JNTU, Hyderabad in 2019. He also holds an M.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from JNTU, Hyderabad (2008), and a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering from JNTU, Hyderabad (2006).

He has published 12 National and International Journals and 5 National and International Conference papers, 1 patent Granted and 1 patent published. He has published a book i.e. “Cloud Security Fundamentals”.

You have key positions In your 15+ years of experience, what are the special practices at ACE Engineering College that you observed and you would like to highlight? 

The department has well-experienced faculty. The faculty had already been trained through MOOCs and NPTEL, and a few faculties had completed a diploma in AIML and data science at Hyderabad Central University, etc. ACE Engineering College started the Vihaan and Butterfly programs. These programs are an addition to the curriculum and can help the student enhance his or her coding skills. ACE Engineering College encourages students to complete certain certification courses, like NPTEL, Coursera, etc., to add additional assets. ACE Engineering College offers a fee for faculty to register for data science courses.

Could you provide some insights into your vision for the future of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Data Science) at ACE Engineering College? What are some of your key objectives or initiatives? 

The present industry expects more data scientists. My vision is to provide real-world problems and data to the students and help them shape better solutions. To achieve this, the department is conducting seminars and hands-on workshops for the students. On behalf of the Data Science Department, we are going to conduct workshops with industry experts like NLP, PowerBi, Beautiful Soup, Advance Python (Anaconda), data science-related mathematics, data analytics, React JS, R programming, etc.

You've participated in numerous workshops, conferences, and seminars. Could you elaborate on how these experiences have contributed to your professional growth and the development of the department's curriculum? 

I participated in various workshops, conferences, faculty development programs, and seminars. This experience helped me a lot to enhance my knowledge and teaching skills. Based on this knowledge, we are conducting hands-on workshops with the students. In these workshops and seminars, they will learn about new trending technologies related to data science.

Can you discuss any unique teaching methodologies or approaches you employ to engage students and make complex Data Science concepts more accessible and understandable? 

Hands-on learning and visual clues: This is the best teaching method invented so far that involves the active participation of students to experience scientific concepts rather than just having an audience view. To engage the students, faculty should be trained in all the related subjects and trending technologies in data science. Faculty development programs are required to achieve this. These sessions may help the faculty produce better outputs.

How do you encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities, hackathons, competitions, and research projects to enhance their practical skills alongside their academic learning? 

I am always encouraging the students to participate in extracurricular activities such as hackathons, Tech-Fests, coding competitions, etc. Some of our department students got certificates for their merit in coding and won the prize money as well.

What are the current biggest challenges in the field of CSE (Data Science) domain in general, and how do you plan to address them as a HOD? 

The biggest challenges in data science are extracting trustworthy data from the bulk amount of data, finding patterns in massive data sets, detecting deviations, and making estimations on the data.

Some of the major challenges and my plans and suggestions are:

Data Preparation: Solve this challenge by adopting emerging AI-enabled data science technologies like augmented analytics and auto-feature engineering. Augmented analytics automates manual data cleansing and preparation tasks and enables data scientists to be more productive.

Multiple Data Sources: Organizations need a centralized platform integrated with multiple data sources to instantly access information from multiple sources. Data on these centralized platforms can be aggregated and controlled effectively in real-time, improving its utilization and saving huge amounts of time and effort for the data scientists.

Understanding the Business Problem: Data scientists must follow a proper workflow before starting any analysis. The workflow must be built after collaborating with the business stakeholders and consist of well-defined checklists to improve understanding and problem identification.

How do you plan to collaborate with industry professionals and organizations to provide real-world experiences and opportunities for students in the CSE (Data Science) department at ACE Engineering College? 

I am planning to invite various professions in the data science industry to the college, and we are planning to conduct hands-on workshops to develop solutions to real-world problems by giving projects to the students.

Can you explain to us about the infrastructural facilities available with respect to CSE (Data Science) at ACE Engineering College? 

The Department of CSE (Data Science) provides various facilities to the students, like 24/7 labs for coding practice, a library, and a digital library for accessing various research papers. Our department offers a GPU cluster service for processing large amounts of data and also offers this service to various research scholars.

Any suggestions you would like to give to the current youth and the aspiring students? 

To achieve their goal, students should practice coding every day. Textbook reading is the most important thing for technical students. The student should always update his knowledge based on current industry requirements. Participation in code challenges and hackathons is very much required to enhance his or her skills. I suggest the students stay up-to-date with industry news, complete an internship, get involved in research, attend workshops and events, write papers and give presentations, and do a part-time job in their field.
