The 11th Annual International Research Conference on Rule of Law (SYMROLIC 2023) were organised on May 5 and 6, 2023, at the Symbiosis Law School in Pune.
New Delhi: The 11th Annual International Research Conference on Rule of Law in Context: Globalisation and Indian Resonance to Sustainable Development Goals (SYMROLIC 2023) were held on May 5 and 6, 2023, at the Symbiosis Law School in Pune. SLS Hyderabad, SLS Noida, and SLS Nagpur were involved in organising the conference Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur, the director of SLS Pune, opened the meeting.
Compiling conference abstracts Along with other dignitaries, Prof. (Dr.) Purvi Pokhriyal, dean of the National Forensic Sciences University's School of Law, Forensic Justice and Policy Studies, was present. An introduction to the Symbiosis Centre for International and Comparative Child Rights Law was given through a film screening.
After that, TISS Mumbai professor and international expert on children's rights Prof. (Dr.) Asha Bajpai launched the Centre via the Zoom platform. 'Legal Road to SDG' was the subject of (Dr.) Purvi Pokhriyal's speech as the chief guest. A number of plenary sessions and panel discussions on various subjects concerning the rule of law, globalisation, and the Sustainable Development Goals were included in the conference.
A number of paper presentations from academics from around the world were also part of the conference. Scholars had a great chance to connect and exchange ideas at the 11th Annual International Research Conference on Terms of Reference: Indian Resonance for Globalisation and the Sustainable Development Goals (Simorolic 2023) about the most recent findings on these vital subjects. The meeting gave academics a chance to network and work together on upcoming initiatives.
"Legal Pathways to the Sustainable Development Goals: Global and Indian Perspectives" was the topic of the plenary session. Pro. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur, Director of the Symbiosis Law School in Pune and Dean of the Faculty of Law at SIU, examined how the MDGs and other global goals are interconnected.
The importance of Make in India on entrepreneurship and global demand was highlighted in a discussion on the significance of the Indian constitutional vision in achieving the SDGs by Dr. MK Ramesh, Professor and Chair Professor of Urban Poor and Law, NLSIU Bangalore. Prof. (Dr.) Purvi Pokhriyal, the director of the National Forensic Science University, emphasised the importance of a social approach to the SDGs as well as the role that sensitization plays in localising the SDGs.
Dr. Asha Bajpai, an international expert on children's rights, lectured about children's rights at TISS Mumbai. The workshop session on "Choosing the Right Journal and Writing to Suit the Journal" was led by Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Patil, head of research publications at SCRI. He talks about research measurements, aims, components, journal selection, theoretical comprehension, SIU publication criteria, academic and technical writing, review process, publication hurdles, common errors, findings analysis, and his mantra for publishing, "Publish or perish good mantras".
He ends by giving a useful exercise including quality indicators, citations, and indexes. Law and Human Behaviour Track 1 discussed issues like gender equality, poverty, hunger, health, and the legal system. Dr. YSR Murthy, Dr. Santosh Aghav, and Prof. (Dr.) KI Vibhute made up the panel. 14 presenters exchanged papers and received comments.
The track and runner-up honours were won by Samara Sahoo (SLS-P), Sivaramakrishnan M., and Kaustubh Balaji (Sastra University). Prof. (Dr.) Lindsay Trautman, Prof. (Dr.) Indrajit Dubey, and Prof. (Dr.) KVS Sharma served as panellists for Track 2 on Business, Trade, Commerce, Management, and Law. The panel received and evaluated seven papers.
The champions and runners-up in the track competition were Yash Singh Naruka and Prerna Singh (NUSRL, Ranchi) and Ashish Vinod Naik and Sanskriti Mahale (SLS-P). Track 3 is devoted to international law, policy, and governance and covers issues including global inequality, international migration, climate change, and legal empowerment.
Professor Dr. Suhas Tuljapurkar is on the panel. Both Professor Dr. John Quigley and (Dr.) Sanoj Rajan were participating. 14 presenters exchanged papers and received comments. The track and runner-up honours were won by Akshay Triloki Nath (JNU) and shared by Hardik Jain and Rishi Khemnani (SLS-P).
The topics covered in Track 4 include climate change, clean water and sanitation, climate action, community, business compliance, and SDG advocacy. Track 4 also focuses on EU climate justice law, governance, management, and policy. Dr. Przemyslaw Tasik and Dr. Prakash Rao served as the panellists. Eight speakers shared their work and solicited criticism.
The champions and runners-up in the track competition were Sridutt Charan, Dr. Aparajita Mohanty, Dr. Sujata Arya, Yash (SLS-P), and Vindhya Gupta (SLS-P). Some of the subjects covered in Track 5 included data science, law tech, green technology, alternative energy, IT law, cyber forensics, data protection, blockchain, digital currency, IoT, and discovered the law.
Cloud computing, false news law, IP law, AI and IP, patenting nanotechnology, traditional knowledge, biodiversity, and SDG advocacy were some of the other themes covered. On the panel were Professor (Dr.) Naresh Kumar Vats, Attorney Puneet Bhasin, and Dr. Saurabh Chandra. 17 presenters showed their papers and received feedback.
Prof. Jeevantika Gulati and Radha Ranjan (SLS-P), Akshay Chugh, Dr. Shirish Kulkarni, and Sangramjit Chavan (SLS-P) were the winners and runners-up in the track competition, respectively. Track 6's topics include civilised work and economic development, public health, constitutionalism, governance and environment, life in the water and on land, peace and justice, strong institutions, conflict resolution, and mental health law.
Access to healthcare, patient rights, a secure food supply, poverty, environmental protection, and SDG advocacy. Prof. (Dr.) Nirmal Kanti Chakraborty and Prof. Chris Gledhill participated in the panel. Nine speakers exchanged papers and got comments on them. The track and runner-up prizes were won by Ardom Belai Khan (SLS-P), Aaradhya Bindal, and SM Amir Ali (SLS-P).
Workshop on "Integrating Indian Philosophy into Research" (co-financed by the EU under the Erasmus+ CBHE project) was led by Dr. Satya Sundar Shetty, Associate Professor at IIT Madras. The discussion of various law and order issues as well as Indian intellectual traditions was engaged and energetic throughout the event.
Prof. (Dr.) Shashikala Gurpur, Director SLS-P and Dean Faculty of Law, SIU, Dr. Aparajita Mohanty, Deputy Director (Academics), and Prof. (Dr.) Bindu all took part in the closing ceremony of Simrolik 2023. Ronald, a professor of law at SLS-P Pro, stressed the value of doing parallel studies and advised enlarging the research field and fusing law and technology. In the realm of law, he emphasised the changing nature of rule and legal sphere.
He thanked the organisers for a successful SYMROLIC 2023 conference and cited the rise in papers (68) and abstracts (115) that were submitted this time. In his conclusion, he stated that SYMROLIC is a combination of concepts that investigates new research directions. The ceremony continued with the awarding of prizes and the decision to publish some papers following blind peer review. Dr. Mohanty gave the closing remarks of the conference.
