Course Curriculum

10

  • The course curriculum is very difficult especially for my course robotics in growth it is one of the most difficult courses. The course is completely theoretical which is like most of the courses in RWTH as it is a research based university.
  • A positive aspect is that the course is technical and upto date with modern technology and findings which is very good. Negative aspects are that there are a lot of subjects to be completed, about 10 technical compulsory courses and 5-6 elective courses that can be technical and non technical both.
  • Classes are about 2-3 on avg per day, usual timings differ from course to course, subject to subject which can be sometimes from morning 8:30am to 4pm or from 10:30am to 12pm.
  • Average number of students per class ranges from 40 to 100.
  • Indian students are about 30-40% of the class population.

Admission Experience

  • Applied to 9 universities. Admitted in 4, rejected in 2 universities and did not receive a reply from others.
  • Received confirmed admission from, RWTH Aachen, TU Siegen, Schmalkalden, TU Chemnitz.
  • Rejected from TUHH, TU Bergakademie Freiberg, RWU.
  • Got rejected from TUHH due to error in the application form. Not sure about the rejection from other 2 universities, probably due to etc credits or credits for specific subjects not tallying.
  • Choose RWTH due to its course structure and university ranking and industry connections.
  • Admission process: Fill out the online application form form the university website in detail accurately, wait for the confirmation, when got accepted, either you accept it or reject it (i got a one month period for that) post which in 2 weeks time had to pay the tuition fees.
  • Eligibility criteria for RWTH: IELTS - 6.5, GRE 310 (165 quants, 145 english, 3 in the essay).
  • The overall admission process is easy and very simple once u have all the documents ready with you.
  • I applied in Winter Intake 2024 for which I successfully received the admission as well. I finished my bachelors in Summer 2024 and I didn't want a gap year for work or anything, so I applied immediately after my bachelors ended. I applied in the month of February last week and I received the reply for my confirmation in the month of Mid April, for which I took a month to decide between University of Siegen and RWTH and I decided with RWTH Aachen.

Faculty

8

  • Each subject have about 1-2 main teaching faculty along with 3-4 extra assistants as teaching faculty to solve the doubts and help the professor.
  • The teaching methodology is each subject has 2 lectures per week, one is theoretical lecture and other is exercise lecture where we solve problems and practise questions. The course content is adequate and teaching material is sufficient.
  • Yes, the faculty members help to develop the profile and find part time jobs in the industry as well.

Campus Life

8

  • My college has 4 campus that are spread out in aachen only, the primary being the largest Campus Mitte, this is where I have most of my lectures. There are 3 different more campuses each having different institutes and buildings, lecture halls and laboratories.
  • There are various different facilities available from different lecture halls and labos, to huge sports facilities and a university gymnasium, to medical services and university hospital as well.
  • There are major festivals here which are Oktoberfest celebrated from last week of September to around 10th october, to celebrating events in summer majorly for sports.
  • There are various different sports activities from being all year round to specific seasonal sports. There are various different student organizations being technical and non technical as well, some non technical clubs are for international students whereas some as for specific nationalities such as there is one club called AISA, for Indian students majorly.

Part Time Jobs

  • Typically it is a bit difficult to find a TA or RA job, but you can get it, around 1-2 jobs open in each subject or position but you need to keep an constant eye for it. Knowing the german language proficiency highly increases  your chance of getting the job.
  • The pay range goes from 14-18 euros per hour, depending on your qualifications and number of hours you work.
  • Maximum hours of work allowed per week is 20 hours. One as a student cannot go above 20 hours per week as it is illegal.
  • It is difficult to secure a job but not impossible, one needs to network and constantly keep an eye for it.
  • Most indian students don't prefer to sit at home, everyone tries to find some job, some place or the other. Many find technical jobs in universities or other industries close by but if you cannot do that, many work in local stores and restaurants or warehouses that offer flexible hours and good pay.
  • The usual process to apply for part time jobs atleast in university is to find the job openings on the job portal then directly contacting them via email to approach for the job. If to find it externally, one can find part time job openings on linked or through social contacts and can apply via email and directly contacting them.

Placement

8

  • I am not sure about this as I have also just started the course.
  • More than 50% of the students secure employment within 6 months of completing the course on average. The average salary range for students is my course goes from around 55,000 to 65,000 euros per annum which is pre taxes.
  • Students do find these jobs by themselves from networking and branching to online websites and LinkedIn. Most of them do all the work themselves as they get the flexibility to find their job role, pay range and working location.
  • I have a few friends who have had their share of interviews for placements. The interviews sometimes last for hours, I know a person who is placed as an embedded engineer and in electronics department at DB.

Accommodation

Off Campus
6

  • I have an off campus accommodation which I found it through online website which is the usual practice in Germany.
  • The monthly rent for my current accommodation is 450 euros which include the rent, electricity, heating cost and the cost of Wifi.
  • Finding an accommodation is really tough and the main challenge is to find the one that fits your budget and needs, you also need to get it verified and ensure it is not an internet scam. Advice for future students is to start finding accommodation 3-4 months early and you might have to pay extra rent for an extra month and do that as it will be worth it.
  • My accommodation is 20-25 mins away from the university but the busses run at the interval of 10-12 minutes so it is not an issue.

Exams

  • Exams required for admission are for masters: IELTS/TOEFL and GRE, some courses require germany proficiency as well which my course did not.
  • Documents necessary: LOR from 3 different people (2 from your bachelors), SOP, CV, APS, IELTS score, GRE score, you also need proof of work experience of minimum 1 year for even applying to RWTH.
  • There was no interview for my course or admission. We had direct admission or rejection from your application form.

Fees

  • The tuition fees for my course is 6000 euros per semester, so accounts to 24000 euros for the course duration. The fees is charged semester wise.
  • Apart from this there is another semester contribution fees of about 300 euros per semester which is to be paid. If we extend the duration of the course, the fees for additional semesters is 750 + the 300 euros semester contribution fees.
  • My monthly expense along with the rent, health insurance and everything goes upto 800-900 euros.

Scholarship

  • There are few scholarships but I didn't receive any scholarships. Few of my batchmates received scholarships of about 1000-1500 euros per semester so they pay around 4500-5000 euros per semester as the tuition fees.
  • Many students in RWTH get scholarships from the university and from external universities as well, from other government organizations and private parties as well like DAAD or Expatrio.
  • There are different types of scholarships in RWTH from being the class topper to someone who has the technical qualifications but lacks the financial background. All the details are available on the university webpage as well.
