Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- The QS ranking of the University of Freiburg is higher and the university has very renowned professors like Dr. Frank Hutter and Dr. Thomas Brox in the field of artificial intelligence, which is the area of my study.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- My profile didn't get accepted in most of them. For TU Darmstadt, I had to write a test to prove my computer science bachelor's skills, which had questions on computer theory and graph theory and algorithms; I couldn't clear this test.

Tips to enhance your application
- The grades in bachelor's matter the most for the selection; better grades lead to a higher acceptance rate. Also, including extracurricular/social activities will help. The motivation letter should contain a section on why this university and why the course is selected.
Admission Experience
- First of all, I chose Germany as its education in public universities is free and the quality of education is really good. Apart from that, I was already working in a German-based company, "Mercedes Benz AG," when I was in India, which made me look into the German education and quality of education.
- I applied only for the top universities in Germany for computer science and wanted to pursue a master's only if I got into any of the top universities.
- So, I applied for Freiburg, which is among the top universities in Germany. The University of Freiburg has a really good artificial intelligence research group with professors and researchers working on the most cutting-edge tech.
Class Schedule
- Attending classes is as per individuals interests; there is not mandatory attendance for most of the lectures except for few
- lab and seminar course, but it is also best to attend the lectures.
- Each lecture is of 1 hour and 45 45 minutes. The strength of a class depends on the course; for example, the deep learning course has around 200 students, out of which 20-30 students are Indians, and courses like soft robotics just have 25 students, out of which 5 students are Indians.
- It takes around 3-4 hours in non-exam time to complete assignment and be upto date with the syllabus taught in the lecture
Faculty
- Faculty-to-student ratio also varies from course to course, some being 1:20 and others 1:80. The best faculty is the machine learning laboratory; they have really talented PhDs and postdocs.
- Student assistant jobs, like tutoring a course or being a research assistant, can be provided by the faculties if we have the right skill sets.
Campus Life
- The campuses that university has are distributed throughout Freiburg, the technical faculty is in one place, which has all the engineering courses, other places have law, medical, geology, teaching, music, etc.
- The university has a very big library in the city centre, and also there is a small one for the technical faculty; we can use both of them. The university also offers gym and some sports activities, I don't know many details about it, as I'm not involved in it
Part Time Jobs
- Mostly Indians prefer working in institutes like Fraunhofer (research institute) and inside the labs of the faculties. But students also work in restaurants and as delivery agents, in laundry, Inside universities canteens, etc.
- Part-time jobs are not difficult to get if one has the required skill sets; mostly all the students here do part-time. but, half of them do odd-jobs like in canteen, restaurants, laundry, etc.
- The wages are between 14 and 20 euros per hour. Max. allowed working hours is 20 per week.
Placement
- Right now the German job market is not the best, so many students are not getting job opportunities after graduation, so master's students are starting with PhDs. As per my knowledge, very few students are getting jobs within the first 6 months of graduation.
- Students find jobs from various career portals of private firms.
- The starting salary is around 2800-3500 Euros per month if students start working in organization. Also, knowing German language is very important for landing a job.
