Reason for choosing my college
- The university offers courses that are relevant to my future goals. Along with intensive courses, it also offers a lab where you can get the opportunity to implement what you have studied.
- The curriculum offers various courses in different areas like artificial intelligence, cyber security, the core of embedded systems and computer science.
- The Freiburg city itself is very nice and majorly populated with young youths. The city is surrounded by black forest, and thus, there are a lot of hiking places nearby.

Reason for Rejection
The reasons I couldn't get accepted into these colleges:-
- Firstly I was not able to make an application on time as I did not have all the documents required for application.
- Another reason is that the subjects that I had in my Bachelor's were not relevant to courses offered in the Master's program.
- If you have a relevant background like a project, internship or work experience then it is easy to get accepted along with good grades and extra-curricular activities.

Tips to enhance your application
Use Europass to create your CV. Mention in SOP about your achievements, skills relevant to your courses. Mention what motivated you to take that particular course, why do you choose this university, why Germany? How the course will benefit you to achieve your goals in future.
Admission Experience
- The University of Freiburg is now considered among the top 10 universities in Germany, where most of the research contribution is in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
- Freiburg city has a maximum number of Fraunhofer research institutes and other institutes like Hahn-Schickard and Max Planck offering a lot of opportunities in the field of Embedded Systems.
- There are career opportunities in nearby cities like Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. The technical university has a small campus compared to other faculties.
- Overall, the professors are really good, and some lectures are worth attending in person.
- The curriculum offers a lot of courses to choose from in different fields, which is good; if you are not good in a particular area.
- Freiburg is known as a Greener city, so you will find most of the students/people riding bicycles and companies are more into development based on renewable energy.
Class Schedule
- Usually, you have 3-4 classes per day, but it depends upon the number of courses you are enrolled for during that semester. Sometimes, courses overlap as well. While some courses are hybrid, few courses are strictly in-person.
- The classes usually start at 8 am. For some courses, there are limited openings, so you have to keep an eye on them once the portal is open for registration.
- Some courses have unlimited students, and the majority of them are Indian, especially in Embedded courses.
- As it is a technical university, the courses are intensive, so it usually takes a whole day to complete your assignment if you are up to date with your studies.
Faculty
- The system control and laboratory is best. The professor and PhD students are talented and motivate you to apply your knowledge to practical problems.They also keep some research talks on advanced research going on in different universities and collaborate with research industries as well.
- You can find a working student, thesis openings on websites for each faculty. Most of the companies have tie-ups with faculties which helps in finding a thesis or internship during your studies.
Campus Life
The university has a number of campuses for bio, economics, etc, which are located in different areas of Freiburg. The library is very huge and is always crowded. You can find events, study tours, and workshops happening on your website, which cost around 0-40 euros. Each year, the university hosts a technical fest during the summer, offering food and beverages for which you can volunteer as well.
Part Time Jobs
- Usually, the Indian students work at the university itself or with Fraunhofer Institute for HiWi and working student roles. The normal hourly wage differs based on the company. Usually, pay is less in universities. One can directly apply through a website or LinkedIn. The application should include relevant documents like a cover letter(must), CV, certificates, references, transcripts, etc.
- You can find internships and part-time jobs in Freiburg and nearby cities as well.
- Each faculty posts an open position on their website. If you have achieved excellent grades in subjects offered by the faculty, they mail you regarding thesis and tutor opportunities as well.
- As a working student, you can work 20 hrs/per week. The hourly wages vary from 9-16 euro depending upon the work.
- The embedded System course doesn't have a mandatory internship, but you can do voluntary internships of 3 months as well, for which you can apply for a semester break (this will save your tuition fees as well).
- The university also emails about semester-abroad opportunities like summer school/internships.
Placement
- The annual average salary ranges from 40k to 70k.
- Many students find jobs through LinkedIn, Xing, and Indeed platform. There are also job fairs going on in different cities. Attending such fairs helps you grow your network.
- Some companies offer graduate programs as well. Gaining experience through internships, Hiwi and part-time jobs often helps students to secure full-time jobs.
- If you are doing a thesis in the company or working as a part-time student for a long time, then it is easier to continue as a full-time employee in the same company.

- You can search for accommodation through platforms like WG Gesucht, immowelt/immoscout.You have to send a message covering who you are as a person, what are your habits, and what you like. Usually, you get a response if you message them in German and provide financial proof like Schufa assuring you can pay rent on time.
- As a student, you can approach the student desk, which will also assist you in finding accommodation. You can join Indian groups on Telegram/WhatsApp/Facebook, where you also find lots of sublet options as well.
