What Students Say
Likes
- The course curriculum is wide and flexible.
- No fixed subjects, can take from a wide range of subjects to complete the credits.
- Embedded Systems is a combination of informatics and microsystems engineering, which helps to go into various fields for potential jobs.
Dislikes
- Most people have to complete some bridging courses in the first semester, which won't be added to the credits. Although it helps bridge the knowledge gap, it will delay the course completion time.
Course Curriculum
- The course syllabus is quite updated and wide. It focuses more on research experience, but some lab courses and practicals will help you gain insight into the industrial exposure.
- It is difficult to say about the number of classes per day, which depends on what courses you select and can vary from person to person. The same case applies to the average number of students as well. Anyone from any semester can take any classes, so there is no way to define this.
Admission Experience
- I chose this university mainly because of its wide and flexible curriculum. I could try out various subjects and decide if I want to proceed with their examination. This helps to learn the subjects that aligned well with my career interests, and this flexibility was the main factor to chose this university. My overall experience was great, I was able to explore a wide range of subjects, found out something that interests me and managed to get a job in that domain.
- I don't know the requirements. There were no mandatory requirements when I applied, except IELTS score as the course was taught in English.
Faculty
- The faculty is pretty good. I have no data about the total number of students, so I can't say anything about the ratio. All the professors that I have met are quite nice, well-versed, and approachable.
- If you want to go into that domain, they help you by probably offering a student job at their faculty and helping to find a thesis and projects in that domain.
Campus Life
- There is only one campus for the technical faculty, and it is fairly equipped. There is a student dorm on the campus itself. The student council of the technical faculty and the tutors of the student dorm organize various extracurricular activities throughout the year. Apart from this, other faculties at the University of Freiburg and SWFR will also organize various events.
- There is a library at the technical faculty, but there is also a big library in the city centre. There are Fraunhofer research institutes near the campus, which are a good source of potential student jobs and careers.
Part Time Jobs
- The part-time jobs at the university departments offer 12.5 - 13 euros per hour, Fraunhofer student jobs offer 16 euros per hour. The process is just to look for jobs and apply on the portals or sometimes by sending an email.
- The maximum number of hours is 20 hours per week. There are a decent number of student jobs in various faculties of engineering faculties on campus. Additionally, Fraunhofer institutes offer a lot of student jobs, so most students manage to get some of these jobs.
Placement
- I have no data to describe the percentage of graduates securing jobs and the salary range. But most people manage to find a job within 6 months.
- There are no campus recruitments; students have to apply for jobs themselves through job portals, LinkedIn. Sometimes professors can help with some recommendations and job notifications.
Accommodation
- There is SWFR, which offers the student dorms, and the primary source of accommodation is this. You have to apply on their online portal. You can also use WG gesucht, eBay Kleinanzeigen to look for private housing. Monthly rent depends on the type of accommodation.
- If it is a student dorm, it is somewhere between 300 - 450 euros, and private will be higher. All the necessary facilities will be there for student housing, including the costs for electricity and heating.
Exams
- IELTS is the only mandatory exam required. LOR and SOV are needed.
Fees
- The tuition fee is 1500 for international students, as this is the rule in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg.
