What is TS ECET 2026?
TS ECET 2026 stands for Telangana State Engineering Common Entrance Test. The exam is now officially called TG ECET (Telangana Engineering Common Entrance Test), and both names are widely used. It is conducted by Osmania University, Hyderabad, on behalf of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE). The official portal for the exam is ecet.tgche.ac.in.
TS ECET is a lateral entry engineering entrance exam. It allows Diploma holders in Engineering, Technology, and Pharmacy, as well as B.Sc. (Mathematics) degree holders, to seek direct admission into the second year (third semester) of four-year B.E./B.Tech and B.Pharmacy programs in universities and private colleges across Telangana. Successful candidates skip the first year and join engineering programs at the lateral entry level — completing their B.Tech degree in three years instead of four.
TS ECET 2026 was held on May 15, 2026, in online (Computer Based Test) mode at exam centers across Telangana. It is a 200-mark exam with 200 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 3 hours. There is no negative marking. For Diploma holders, the paper tests Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and the branch-specific engineering subject. For B.Sc. (Mathematics) graduates, the paper covers Mathematics, Analytical Ability, and Communicative English.
The exam is a gateway to more than 179 engineering and pharmacy colleges in Telangana, including government institutions like JNTU Hyderabad (JNTUH), Osmania University College of Engineering, and University College of Engineering at Kakatiya University, as well as top-ranked private autonomous colleges. Around 21,200 lateral entry seats are available, and admission to all of them is through the centralised TSCHE counselling process.

TS ECET 2026 Marks vs Rank
Your total marks out of 200 determine your rank in TS ECET 2026. Ranks are computed separately for each stream — a CSE Diploma holder is ranked among all CSE Diploma holders, not compared to EEE or Mechanical holders. CSE consistently has the most candidates, so higher marks are needed there for a competitive rank compared to lower-volume branches like Mining or Metallurgy.
How is the TS ECET Rank Calculated?
Rank is assigned in ascending order of marks — higher marks get a better (lower number) rank. In case of a tie in total marks, the tiebreaker rules are: first, higher marks in the branch engineering paper; second, higher marks in Mathematics; third, the older candidate by date of birth gets the better rank.
Expected Marks vs Rank — All Streams (Based on Previous Year Trends)
| Marks (out of 200) | Expected Rank — CSE | Expected Rank — ECE | Expected Rank — EEE / Mechanical |
|---|---|---|---|
| 150 – 200 | 1 – 20 | 1 – 10 | 1 – 10 |
| 130 – 149 | 21 – 50 | 11 – 40 | 11 – 40 |
| 110 – 129 | 51 – 100 | 41 – 80 | 41 – 100 |
| 90 – 109 | 101 – 200 | 81 – 200 | 101 – 250 |
| 70 – 89 | 201 – 500 | 201 – 500 | 251 – 600 |
| 60 – 79 | 501 – 1000 | 501 – 800 | 601 – 1000 |
| 50 – 59 (Minimum to qualify) | 1001+ | 801+ | 1001+ |
These are approximate estimates based on previous year TS ECET data. Actual 2026 branch-wise rank ranges depend on the number of candidates and this year’s exam difficulty. The difference in competition across branches is significant — always plan your web options strategy based on your specific branch’s rank, not a combined estimate.
What is a Good Score in TS ECET 2026?
A score above 100 marks is generally considered good and puts you in a competitive rank range for reputed private colleges in Hyderabad for most branches. To target top government colleges like JNTUH or Osmania University in high-demand branches like CSE, you need 130+ marks to be in a rank under 50. Even a score of 60–80 opens up a wide range of colleges across Telangana, especially in Civil, Mechanical, and EEE where fewer candidates compete for each seat.
TS ECET 2026 Cutoff
There are two types of cutoff in TS ECET — the qualifying cutoff (minimum marks to get a rank and be eligible for counselling) and the admission cutoff (the last rank at which a specific college fills its last seat in a branch during counselling). Both matter when you are planning your college strategy.
TS ECET 2026 Qualifying Marks Cutoff
| Category | Minimum Marks to Get a Rank (out of 200) | Qualifying Percentage |
|---|---|---|
| OC (General) | 50 marks | 25% |
| BC (OBC) | 50 marks | 25% |
| SC (Scheduled Caste) | No minimum — all appear in rank list | — |
| ST (Scheduled Tribe) | No minimum — all appear in rank list | — |

TS ECET 2026 Preparation Tips
TS ECET 2026 is now over, but these preparation strategies are useful for TS ECET 2027 aspirants and for Diploma holders appearing in similar lateral entry tests. The exam rewards students with a strong Diploma-level foundation and efficient time management during the 3-hour test.
- Focus maximum time on your engineering branch paper: The discipline-specific paper carries 100 out of 200 marks — the single biggest scoring component. Go through all three years of your Diploma textbooks and cover every topic in the SBTET syllabus. Spend at least 50–60% of your total preparation time on this section. Topics that appear repeatedly in previous years deserve extra attention.
- Build a strong Mathematics base: Mathematics accounts for 50 marks, more than Physics and Chemistry combined. Topics like Matrices, Differentiation, Integration, Differential Equations, and Statistics are asked every year. Practice numerical problems daily and aim for 35–40 out of 50 here. A high Maths score can significantly push your overall rank higher.
- Solve previous years’ TS ECET papers: The exam follows a consistent pattern year after year. Solving the last 5–7 years’ question papers helps you identify high-frequency topics, understand the level of questions, and calibrate your preparation against actual exam standards. Always practice with a 3-hour timer for the full paper.
- Do not neglect Physics and Chemistry: Together these carry 50 marks. Physics questions are largely numerical (Kinematics, Thermodynamics), and Chemistry is formula-based (Electrochemistry, Solutions, Polymers). A focused 2–3 week revision plan using your SBTET diploma books is enough to score 35–40 in this combined section.
- Manage your time effectively during the exam: With 200 questions and 180 minutes, you have about 54 seconds per question. Start with the branch paper where you are most confident, then Mathematics, then Physics and Chemistry. Skip any question that takes more than 90 seconds and return to it in the final review.
- Attempt every question — no negative marking: There is no penalty for wrong answers. Never leave a question blank. Eliminate clearly wrong options and pick the most likely answer. A correct guess scores a mark; a blank scores nothing.

Candidates who have not yet registered must visit tgecet.nic.in immediately and complete registration before midnight. Certificate verification runs until June 19, web option entry is open until June 21, and Phase 1 provisional seat allotment will be declared on June 24, 2026. Candidates who miss Phase 1 can register during the Final Phase from July 4–5, 2026.
Ques. What are the qualifying marks for TS ECET 2026?
Ans. OC and BC candidates need at least 50 marks out of 200 (25%) to earn a rank and become eligible for counselling. There is no minimum qualifying mark for SC and ST candidates — every SC/ST candidate who appeared is assigned a rank regardless of their score. Qualifying for the exam alone does not guarantee admission — you need a competitive rank to secure a seat in a good college and branch.
Ques. Who is eligible to apply for TS ECET?
Ans. You are eligible for TS ECET if you hold one of these qualifications from a recognised institution in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh: a Diploma in Engineering/Technology from SBTET with 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PH), a Diploma in Pharmacy with 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PH), or a 3-year B.Sc. Degree with Mathematics with 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PH). There is no upper age limit. Final year diploma and degree students can also apply.
Ques. Is there negative marking in TS ECET 2026?
Ans. No, TS ECET 2026 does not have negative marking. You get +1 mark for each correct answer and 0 for any wrong or unattempted answer. Because there is no penalty for wrong answers, you should attempt all 200 questions — never leave any question blank.
Ques. What documents do I need for TS ECET 2026 counselling certificate verification?
Ans. You must carry originals and photocopies of: TS ECET 2026 rank card and hall ticket, SSC/10th marks memo and pass certificate, Diploma marks memos for all semesters and provisional/original certificate, study certificates from Class 6 onwards, Aadhaar card, caste certificate (for BC/SC/ST candidates), transfer certificate, and recent passport-size photographs (at least 6 copies). Income and residence certificates may be needed for certain categories.
Ques. How many colleges accept TS ECET score in Telangana?
Ans. Around 179 engineering and pharmacy colleges in Telangana participate in TS ECET 2026 counselling. These include top government institutions like JNTUH College of Engineering and Osmania University College of Engineering, as well as leading private autonomous colleges such as CBIT, Vasavi, GRIET, VNR VJIET, and MGIT. All admissions happen through the centralised TSCHE counselling — no direct lateral entry admission is allowed outside this process.
Ques. What is a good rank in TS ECET 2026?
Ans. A rank under 300 in your stream is considered excellent and gives access to top government and autonomous private colleges in Hyderabad for popular branches like CSE and ECE. A rank between 300 and 1,000 opens up good private colleges in Hyderabad and Rangareddy. Ranks above 1,000 can still get you admission to colleges across Telangana, especially in Civil, Mechanical, and EEE branches where fewer candidates compete. What counts as "good" depends on your target branch and preferred colleges.
Ques. Can a B.Sc. (Mathematics) graduate apply for TS ECET?
Ans. Yes. B.Sc. (Mathematics) graduates from a recognised university in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh can apply for TS ECET with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/PH). Unlike Diploma holders who are restricted to their own engineering stream, B.Sc. (Mathematics) candidates can seek lateral entry into any B.Tech branch — including CSE, ECE, IT, and others — subject to counselling norms and seat availability.
Ques. What is the difference between TS ECET and TS EAMCET?
Ans. TS EAMCET (now called TG EAPCET) is for Class 12/Intermediate students seeking first-year admission to 4-year B.Tech programs. TS ECET is specifically for Diploma holders and B.Sc. (Mathematics) graduates seeking lateral entry directly into the second year of B.Tech programs, completing the degree in 3 years instead of 4. Both exams lead to the same B.Tech degree but through different entry points and for different student profiles.
