You can apply for TG ECET if you are a Diploma holder in Engineering, Technology, or Pharmacy, or a B.Sc. (Mathematics) graduate from a recognized institution in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh. Academic Qualification

• Diploma in Engineering/Technology: You must hold a Diploma from a recognized Board of Technical Education in Telangana or Andhra Pradesh. Diploma holders can apply for lateral entry into the B.Tech branch that matches their Diploma stream — for example, a Civil Engineering Diploma holder can only apply for B.Tech Civil Engineering.
• Diploma in Pharmacy: Diploma holders in Pharmacy can apply for lateral entry to B.Pharmacy through TG ECET using the Pharmacy stream paper.
• B.Sc. (Mathematics): Graduates with a 3-year B.Sc. degree with Mathematics as a subject from a recognized university can seek lateral entry to any B.Tech branch. They are not restricted to a specific stream, unlike Diploma holders.

Around 179 engineering and pharmacy colleges in Telangana offer lateral entry seats through TG ECET. Most of these colleges are affiliated with JNTU Hyderabad (JNTUH) or Osmania University. Admission to all these colleges through TG ECET is only via the TSCHE counselling process. • Start with the branch-specific paper: The engineering branch section carries 100 out of 200 marks — the single biggest scoring area. Go through all three years of your Diploma textbooks and study all topics in the SBTET syllabus. Focus more on topics that appear frequently in previous years’ question papers.
• Prioritise Mathematics: Mathematics accounts for 50 marks, more than Physics and Chemistry put together. Topics like Matrices, Integration, Differentiation, Differential Equations, and Probability appear every year. Practice numerical problems daily and build speed and accuracy — this section alone can swing your rank significantly.
• Solve previous years’ TG ECET question papers: The TG ECET exam follows a consistent pattern. Solving last 5 years’ papers helps you spot recurring topics, understand the style of questions, and measure your preparation level against actual exam standards. Practice with a 3-hour timer for the full paper.
• Do not skip Physics and Chemistry: Together these two subjects carry 50 marks. Numerical questions in Physics (Kinematics, Thermodynamics, Work and Energy) and formula-based questions in Chemistry (Electrochemistry, Solutions, Polymers) are scoring if you revise the right chapters. A focused 2-week revision plan is usually enough.
• Manage time during the exam: With 200 questions and 180 minutes, you have roughly 54 seconds per question. Start with the section where you are most confident — usually the branch paper or Maths. Skip any question that takes more than 90 seconds and return to it at the end.
• Attempt every question — no negative marking: TG ECET has no negative marking. Never leave a question blank. Even if you are not sure, eliminate clearly wrong options and pick the best remaining answer. A correct guess scores a mark; a blank scores nothing.
