Tie-Breaking Rules in IIT JAM Result 2027

When two candidates score the same total marks, IIT JAM resolves the tie using the following criteria in order

• Higher marks in Section A will get the better rank
• If there is still a tie, higher Section B marks will be considered
• In case the tie does not get resolved, the candidate who attempted more correctly in Section A will be preferred first
• If the tie persists after all the above, the older candidate gets the better rank

Based on All India Rank, the merit list will be prepared for candidates eligible to apply for admission in their respective courses.

Once IIT JAM 2027 result is out and you have qualified, the next phase is the JOAPS admission process. Here is the step-by-step process you need to follow after IIT JAM 2027 result is published in March 2027.

Step 1: JOAPS Registration and Admission Fee Payment

• JOAPS admission registration opens after the result is declared in late March or early April.
• You need to log in to JOAPS and pay a non-refundable admission processing fee to participate in the counselling process.
• Only candidates whose names have been published on JAM 2027 merit list can register on JOAPS.

Step 2: Fill Programme Choices on JOAPS

• Fill as many choices in your preference order to increase your admission chances.
• Each additional choice beyond a specified number may carry a fee. Check the JOAPS fee structure once it is published

Step 3: Seat Allotment

In each round, you are offered the best available seat from your preference list. When you get an offer, you have four options:

• Accept and Freeze: You accept the current seat and exit further rounds. No upgrades possible after this.
• Float: You accept the seat but stay in the running for a better preference in the next round
• Reject: It means you decline the offer and try for a higher preference in the next round. You are advised not to reject, as if nothing better is available in further rounds, you will not get admission. So it is better to choose float for a better choice option.
• No Action: You will be out of further admission rounds, so always choose between accept and freeze or float to participate in further rounds.

Step 4: Document Verification and Physical Reporting

Once you finalise a seat, you report physically to the allotted IIT with your original documents:

• Mark sheets (Class 10, 12, graduation),
• Category certificate if applicable,
• JAM 2027 scorecard
• JAM 2027 admit card
• Valid photo ID.

You must report within the specified date window, or else you will not get admission.
