GCET 2026: Detailed Exam Pattern (Stream-Wise)

GCET Marking Scheme 2026

For B.E. aspirants, the JEE Main 2026 marking scheme applies — with negative marking on MCQs and no penalty on numerical questions. Medical and pharmacy aspirants following the NEET route face identical negative marking rules.

Negative marking of 1 mark applies to every wrong MCQ in JEE Main Section A — avoid random guessing in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

How to Prepare Based on GCET Exam Pattern

Since GCET 2026 for B.E. relies entirely on your JEE Main score, preparation must align with the JEE Main Paper 1 format — 75 questions, 300 marks, 3-hour CBT with negative marking on MCQs. The tips below are directly derived from the current GCET 2026 exam pattern and marking rules.

1. Build speed for 75 questions in 180 minutes: You have roughly 2.4 minutes per question on average. Practice full-length timed mock tests so you never lose marks to time pressure on familiar topics.
2. Strategically pick your 5 Section B numerical questions: Each subject gives you 10 numerical questions but you only attempt 5. Scan all 10 first and select the 5 where you are most confident — you score +4 with zero risk on the 5 you skip.
3. Never guess randomly on Section A MCQs: A single wrong MCQ costs 1 mark and a correct one earns 4 — a random wrong guess carries a net swing of 5 marks against you. Skip questions where you cannot eliminate at least two options.
4. Give equal attention to all three subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics each carry 100 marks. A weak subject drags your JEE Main percentile and directly lowers your DTE Goa merit rank for GCET counselling.
