GCET 2026 is the Goa Common Entrance Test admissions process managed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Goa, for first-year seats in B.E., B.Pharm, and B.Arch programmes at government and private colleges in Goa. Since 2024, DTE Goa discontinued the written GCET exam — B.E. admissions now use JEE Main 2026 scores, B.Pharm uses JEE Main or NEET UG, and B.Arch uses NATA. As of July 6, 2026, the B.E. final merit list was released on June 30, 2026, and Round 1 counselling is in its final day (window closes July 7, 2026) — candidates who received a Round 1 allotment must report to their college by July 7.

  • Round 1 Final Day: GCET 2026 B.E. Round 1 counselling closes tomorrow, July 7, 2026. If you received a Round 1 seat allotment, you must report to the allotted college with all original documents and pay the admission fee by end of day on July 7. Last year (2025), approximately 1,200 of the 1,667 available seats were filled in Round 1.
  • Round 2 Counselling: Round 2 of GCET 2026 B.E. counselling is expected in the second week of July 2026 (around July 14–18). Seats not filled or vacated from Round 1 due to non-reporting will be allotted. All registered candidates who have not yet accepted a seat can participate in Round 2.
  • B.Pharm Counselling: GCET 2026 B.Pharm admissions are based on the best aggregate of Physics and Chemistry from JEE Main 2026 or NEET UG 2026. DTE Goa will release the B.Pharm merit list and counselling schedule shortly — expected in July 2026, following the same timeline as 2025.
  • Spot Round: A spot round for unfilled B.E. seats is expected in the last week of July 2026. Last year (2025), the spot round was held on September 13, 2025. All remaining vacant seats across Goa’s five engineering colleges will be available for eligible candidates.

What is GCET 2026?

The Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) is the state-level admission process managed by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Government of Goa, for first-year undergraduate professional programmes at engineering, pharmacy, and architecture colleges in Goa. GCET 2026 is not a written entrance test — DTE Goa discontinued the written exam from the 2024-25 academic year onward, replacing it with scores from national-level exams conducted by NTA and COA.

For the 2026 admission cycle, admission to different courses works as follows:

  • B.E. / B.Tech: Based on JEE Main 2026 score (conducted by NTA)
  • B.Pharm: Based on JEE Main 2026 or NEET UG 2026 score — best aggregate of Physics and Chemistry used
  • B.Arch: Based on NATA 2026 score (conducted by COA)

DTE Goa prepares a separate state merit list for each course using these national exam scores. Seats in Goa’s engineering, pharmacy, and architecture colleges are filled through a centralised offline counselling process. The GCET 2026 process covers around 5,000–6,000 eligible applicants competing for approximately 1,667 B.E. seats across five engineering colleges in Goa.

GCET 2026 Merit List

DTE Goa released the GCET 2026 B.E. provisional merit list on June 18, 2026, and the final B.E. merit list on June 30, 2026, after processing objections submitted during the June 27–29 window. The final merit list is the basis for all counselling rounds and is available at dtegoa.gov.in.

How the GCET 2026 Merit List is Prepared

  • Primary criteria: JEE Main 2026 percentile (NTA score)
  • Tie-breaking rule: Equal JEE Main scores are broken by higher Mathematics marks in Class 12, then Physics marks, then the older candidate ranks higher
  • Separate merit lists for each course: B.E., B.Pharm (JEE-based), B.Pharm (NEET-based), and B.Arch
  • Merit lists further divided by category: General HS (Home State), SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Open Merit, and NRI
  • Your Goa state merit rank is NOT the same as your all-India JEE Main rank — it depends on how many eligible Goa candidates applied and their scores

GCET 2026 Counselling Process

The GCET 2026 counselling process is offline and centralised, conducted by DTE Goa at designated venues across Goa. You must report in person with original documents for document verification and seat selection. Round 1 is in its final day today (July 6), closing tomorrow on July 7, 2026.

GCET 2026 Counselling Schedule

Round Dates Status
Round 1 Counselling June 22 – July 7, 2026 (Active — Final Day Tomorrow)
Round 2 Counselling Second week of July 2026 Upcoming
Spot Round Last week of July 2026 Upcoming

Step-by-Step Counselling Process

  1. Report at the Counselling Venue: Candidates are called in batches based on their merit rank and category. Check the DTE Goa website for your reporting date and time slot. You need to report at the designated venue on your scheduled day.
  2. Document Verification: DTE officials verify your original documents — JEE Main 2026 scorecard, Class 12 mark sheet, domicile certificate or school TC from Goa, and category certificate if applicable. Missing documents can lead to disqualification from that round.
  3. Choice Filling: Fill your preferred colleges and branches in order of preference. List your most preferred option first. Always fill as many choices as possible to avoid being without a seat.
  4. Seat Allotment: Seats are allotted on the spot based on merit rank, stated choices, category, and real-time seat availability. If your first choice is taken by a higher-ranked candidate, the next available choice in your list is offered.
  5. Fee Payment and Confirmation: If you accept the allotted seat, pay the required fee at the college counter and complete admission formalities to confirm your seat.

GCET 2026 Counselling Venues (Based on 2025 Reference)

  • Padre Conceicao College of Engineering (PCCE), Verna, Salcete
  • Don Bosco College of Engineering (DBCE), Fatorda, Margao
  • DTE Goa Office, Panaji

Exact counselling venues for each round will be confirmed by DTE Goa at dtegoa.gov.in before the round begins.

GCET 2026 Seat Allotment

Seat allotment in GCET 2026 happens during counselling rounds, directly at the venue. DTE Goa uses your state merit rank, category, domicile status, and your filled choices to allot the best available seat in real-time. There is no separate online seat allotment announcement — your seat is confirmed during the counselling session.

Factors That Determine Seat Allotment

  • State Merit Rank: Candidates with better JEE Main scores get higher state merit ranks and are called earlier. They get first access to the available seat pool.
  • Category: SC, ST, OBC, and EWS candidates compete within their reserved quotas. A reserved-category candidate may secure a seat at GEC before a general-category candidate with a better rank if reserved seats remain available.
  • Domicile: Goa HS (Home State) domicile candidates have access to state-quota seats. Non-Goan candidates can only compete for open merit seats.
  • Choices Filled: The order of your preference list matters. Always fill as many options as possible and put your most preferred college and branch first.
  • Real-Time Availability: Seats fill as counselling progresses. A branch available in Round 1 may be unavailable in Round 2.

GCET 2026 B.E. Seat Matrix (Based on 2025 Data)

College Type Total B.E. Seats (approx.) Key Branches
Goa College of Engineering (GEC), Farmagudi Government 450 Computer Engg, IT, Electronics & Telecom, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical

After Round 1 and Round 2, any remaining vacant seats go to the spot round. If you received a seat allotment in Round 1 but want a better option, you can seek an upgrade in Round 2 if seats in your preferred branch are still available.

GCET 2026 Cutoff

The GCET 2026 cutoff is the last JEE Main rank (in the Goa state merit list) at which a seat is filled in each counselling round. Since 2024, all GCET cutoffs are based on JEE Main scores, not written exam marks. The official GCET 2026 cutoff will be published by DTE Goa after all counselling rounds are complete. The 2024 data below is the most relevant reference for estimating 2026 cutoffs.

GCET 2024 Cutoff — Approximate JEE Main Closing Rank (General HS Category)

College Branch Approx. Closing Rank — General HS (2024)
GEC, Farmagudi Computer Engineering ~2,690
GEC, Farmagudi Information Technology ~5,000

Important: The Goa state merit rank is NOT the same as your all-India JEE Main rank. A student with an all-India JEE Main rank of 50,000 may have a Goa state merit rank in the top 500, depending on how many Goa-eligible candidates applied and their scores. Always check your actual state merit rank in the DTE Goa merit list to estimate your admission chances — not your all-India rank.

GCET 2026 Reservation Policy

DTE Goa follows the Goa state government’s reservation policy for GCET 2026 seat allotment. Reserved-category seats are available in government and government-aided colleges. You must carry a valid certificate from a competent authority to claim reserved category status at the counselling venue.

Category Reservation
Scheduled Caste (SC) 2%
Scheduled Tribe (ST) 12%
Other Backward Classes (OBC) 27%
Economically Weaker Section (EWS) 10%
Persons with Disability (PwD) 3% (horizontal reservation)
Ex-Servicemen (ESM) As per Goa government norms
NRI Separate NRI quota seats available
  • SC/ST/OBC candidates get a 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying Class 12 marks (45% relaxed to 40% in PCM)
  • If reserved category seats remain unfilled after all counselling rounds, they are converted to open merit seats during the spot round
  • Category certificates must be produced in original at the counselling venue — photocopies alone are not accepted
  • Goa domicile candidates get priority across all categories for state-quota seats over non-Goan candidates

Documents Required for GCET 2026 Counselling

You must bring original documents along with self-attested photocopies to the GCET 2026 counselling venue. Missing documents can result in disqualification from seat allotment for that round. Prepare your documents before your scheduled counselling date and carry at least two sets of photocopies of everything.

Document Purpose
Class 10 Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate Age verification and basic education proof
Class 12 Mark Sheet and Passing Certificate Eligibility check — PCM marks and percentage
JEE Main 2026 Scorecard Primary admission basis — shows percentile and NTA score
JEE Main 2026 Admit Card Cross-reference with scorecard
GCET 2026 Merit List Printout (with your entry highlighted) Confirms state merit rank and category rank
GCET 2026 Application Form Receipt Proof of GCET application and fee payment
Goa Domicile Certificate OR Transfer Certificate from Goa School Domicile eligibility for state quota seats
Category Certificate — SC/ST/OBC/EWS (if applicable) For reserved category seat allotment
PwD Certificate (if applicable) For PwD horizontal reservation

Aadhaar Card or Government-Issued Photo ID Identity verification at the counselling venue

All documents must be presented in original along with at least 2 sets of self-attested photocopies. Documents presented only as photocopies without originals will not be accepted. Arrive early at the counselling venue — seats are allotted in order of merit rank and reporting time within your slot.

Preparation Tips for GCET 2026 (JEE Main-Based)

Since GCET 2026 B.E. admission is based on JEE Main 2026 scores, your preparation must align with the JEE Main syllabus and exam format. The key advantage is the much smaller candidate pool — around 5,000–6,000 Goa-eligible applicants, not the 12+ lakh all-India JEE candidates. A JEE Main percentile that looks ordinary nationally can translate to a very competitive Goa state merit rank.

Understand Your Real Target: Goa State Merit Rank

Your all-India JEE Main rank and your Goa state merit rank are two different numbers. A candidate with an all-India rank of 50,000 may land a Goa state merit rank in the top 500 if fewer high-scoring Goa candidates applied that year. Focus on improving your JEE Main percentile; the Goa-specific rank will improve accordingly.

Build Your NCERT Foundation First

  • NCERT textbooks for Class 11 and 12 are the foundation for JEE Main
  • Chemistry NCERT is especially high-yield — about 60–70% of JEE Main Chemistry is directly NCERT-based
  • For Physics and Mathematics, build concepts from NCERT and then practice from standard problem books

Solve Previous JEE Main Papers

  • Solve JEE Main papers from the last 5 years — question style and difficulty are consistent
  • Practice Session 1 and Session 2 papers from 2024 and 2025 for the latest pattern
  • Time your practice: 3 hours for 75 questions across 3 subjects, matching the actual CBT format

Take Regular Mock Tests

  • Aim for at least 2 full-length mock tests every week during the last 3 months before JEE Main
  • Use NTA’s official mock test portal for the closest simulation of the actual exam
  • Analyse errors after every mock — identify weak chapters and target them rather than just taking more tests

Focus on High-Weightage Topics

  • Physics: Mechanics, Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Optics, Modern Physics
  • Chemistry: Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds, GOC, Aldehydes and Ketones, Amines
  • Mathematics: Coordinate Geometry, Integral and Differential Calculus, Permutations and Combinations, Matrices and Determinants

Register for JEE Main and GCET Separately

JEE Main registration (on NTA’s website) and GCET application (offline at DTE Goa) are completely separate processes with different deadlines. Getting a good JEE Main score is only the first step — you must also apply through DTE Goa’s offline process within their deadline (typically April to May each year) to be included in the Goa state merit list. Both steps are mandatory.

Ans. No. DTE Goa discontinued the written GCET exam from the 2024-25 academic year. GCET 2026 B.E. admission is based entirely on JEE Main 2026 scores. There is no separate GCET written exam in 2026. For B.Pharm, JEE Main or NEET score is accepted. For B.Arch, the NATA 2026 score is used. DTE Goa continues to manage the application, merit list, and counselling process under the GCET umbrella.

Ques. What is the status of GCET 2026 B.E. counselling as of July 2026?

Ans. Round 1 of GCET 2026 B.E. counselling (June 22 – July 7, 2026) is in its final day as of July 6, 2026. The final B.E. merit list was released on June 30, 2026 after the objection window (June 27–29) closed. Round 2 counselling is expected in the second week of July 2026, followed by a spot round in the last week of July. All rounds are offline at designated venues in Goa.

Ques. What is the eligibility criteria for GCET 2026 B.E. admission?

Ans. For GCET 2026 B.E. admission, you must have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics with a minimum 45% aggregate marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC). You also need a valid JEE Main 2026 scorecard. A Goa domicile certificate or proof of completing Class 10 or 12 from a school in Goa is required for state quota seats. There is no upper age limit for B.E. admission.

Ques. How is the GCET 2026 merit list prepared?

Ans. The GCET 2026 B.E. merit list is based on JEE Main 2026 percentile scores. If two candidates have equal percentiles, the tie is broken by Class 12 Mathematics marks, then Physics marks, then by age (older candidate ranks higher). Separate merit lists are prepared for each category — General HS, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, Open Merit, and NRI — and for each course (B.E., B.Pharm, B.Arch). The final B.E. merit list was released on June 30, 2026, at dtegoa.gov.in.

Ques. What is the GCET 2026 cutoff for GEC Farmagudi Computer Engineering?

Ans. Based on GCET 2024 data, the approximate closing Goa state merit rank for Computer Engineering at GEC Farmagudi was around rank 2,690 for General HS category candidates, corresponding to roughly a JEE Main percentile of 90+. Official GCET 2026 round-wise cutoffs will be published on dtegoa.gov.in after all counselling rounds are complete.

Ques. Can non-Goan students apply for GCET 2026?

Ans. Yes. Non-Goan candidates can apply for GCET 2026, but they can only compete for open merit seats — not state-quota seats. State quota seats are reserved for Goa domicile holders or students who completed Class 10 or 12 from a school in Goa. NRI candidates have a separate NRI quota. All category candidates must have valid JEE Main 2026 scores for B.E. admission.

Ques. What documents do I need for GCET 2026 counselling?

Ans. You need Class 10 and 12 mark sheets and passing certificates, JEE Main 2026 scorecard and admit card, GCET 2026 merit list printout with your entry, Goa domicile certificate or school TC from Goa, category certificate if applicable, 4–6 passport-size photographs, and a valid photo ID such as Aadhaar card. Carry all documents in original along with at least 2 sets of self-attested photocopies.

Ques. How many total B.E. seats are available through GCET 2026?

Ans. There are approximately 1,667 B.E. seats through GCET 2026 across 5 colleges: GEC Farmagudi (450 seats), SRIEIT Shiroda (428 seats), PCCE Verna (around 300 seats), DBCE Fatorda (273 seats), and AITD Assagao (216 seats). The most competitive college is GEC Farmagudi — the only government engineering college in Goa. The complete seat matrix is available in the Degree Prospectus at dtegoa.gov.in.

Ques. What JEE Main percentile is good for GCET 2026?

Ans. A JEE Main percentile of 90+ is generally needed for top branches (Computer Engineering and IT) at GEC Farmagudi. A percentile of 80–90 can get you Electronics and Telecom or Mechanical at GEC, or Computer Engineering at aided colleges like PCCE. A percentile of 60–70 can secure a seat at DBCE or AITD through GCET 2026 counselling. Remember — your Goa state merit rank, not your all-India rank, is what matters for GCET seat allotment.

Ques. When was the GCET written exam discontinued and why?

Ans. The GCET written exam was last conducted in May 2023. DTE Goa discontinued it from the 2024-25 academic year, replacing it with JEE Main scores for B.E., NEET or JEE Main for B.Pharm, and NATA for B.Arch. The shift was aimed at reducing the burden on students of writing a separate state-level exam and aligning Goa’s admission process with the national exam ecosystem. The GCET application, merit list, and counselling process continue to be managed by DTE Goa.

Ques. What is the difference between the Goa state merit rank and the JEE Main all-India rank?

Ans. Your all-India JEE Main rank is based on how you performed compared to all 12+ lakh JEE Main candidates nationally. Your Goa state merit rank is based on how you performed compared to the 5,000–6,000 Goa-eligible GCET applicants specifically. It is entirely possible to have an all-India rank of 40,000–50,000 and still secure a top-300 Goa state merit rank — enough to compete for Electronics and Telecom or Mechanical at GEC Farmagudi. Always check your state merit rank in the DTE Goa merit list, not just your JEE Main all-India rank.
