What is Bihar UGEAC 2026?

Bihar UGEAC stands for Bihar Under Graduate Engineering Admission Counselling. BCECEB (Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board), a statutory body of the Government of Bihar, conducts this counselling every year for B.Tech admissions to government engineering colleges in Bihar. Bihar UGEAC 2026 is not a standalone entrance exam — there is no separate written test. Admissions are based entirely on your JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 All India Rank (AIR).

Earlier, Bihar used to conduct its own state engineering entrance exam called BCECE (Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination). That exam was discontinued, and from 2019 onwards, the state shifted to using JEE Main scores directly for B.Tech admissions through the UGEAC counselling process. This makes Bihar UGEAC a seat-allocation process driven by merit, choice preferences, and seat availability — not a separate exam.

Bihar UGEAC 2026 offers more than 13,780 B.Tech seats across 38 government engineering colleges spread across Bihar’s districts. The process has two rounds of counselling. After each round, BCECEB issues provisional allotment letters, and candidates must complete document verification at the allotted college to secure admission. For 2026, new branches like CSE (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning), Data Science, and Cyber Security have been introduced at select participating colleges.

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Eligibility Criteria

You must meet all eligibility conditions to participate in Bihar UGEAC 2026 counselling. Even if your JEE Main 2026 rank is strong, your allotment will be cancelled during document verification if you do not satisfy the criteria below.

Nationality and Domicile

You must be an Indian national. A valid Bihar domicile (Permanent Residential Certificate issued by a Bihar authority) is mandatory to claim state quota seats and all reservation benefits. Without a Bihar domicile, you can only apply for the 15% All India Quota seats, which are filled under the General/Unreserved category with no reservation of any kind.

Age Limit

You must be 17 years of age or above at the time of admission. There is no upper age limit for Bihar UGEAC 2026. Your date of birth as recorded in the Class 10 certificate is taken as the official proof of age.

Academic Qualification

You must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent recognised board exam with the following subjects:

  • Compulsory subjects: Physics and Mathematics
  • Third subject (any one): Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics, or Technical Vocational Subject
  • Candidates who have completed a 3-year Diploma in Engineering from a recognised polytechnic may also be eligible, subject to BCECEB verification

Minimum Marks in Class 12

Category Minimum Marks Required (in PCM subjects)

SC / ST / PwD (Divyang) 40% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics

JEE Main 2026 Requirement

A valid JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 score is compulsory for B.Tech admissions. There is no minimum qualifying percentile set by BCECEB — any valid JEE Main 2026 rank makes you eligible to register. Candidates who appeared in multiple sessions of JEE Main 2026 will have their best session score considered, as per NTA’s policy. For B.Arch admissions at GCE Gaya, you need either a JEE Main 2026 Paper 2 score or a valid NATA 2026 score.

Out-of-state candidates can participate in Bihar UGEAC but will be treated as General/Unreserved for seat allotment purposes, even if they hold an SC/ST/OBC certificate from another state. Bihar caste and income certificates are the only valid documents for category reservation in UGEAC.

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Rank Card and Merit List

BCECEB released the Bihar UGEAC 2026 rank card on June 23, 2026 at bceceboard.bihar.gov.in. The rank card shows your JEE Main 2026 All India Rank as recognised by BCECEB for the purposes of the counselling process. This rank is the sole criterion for seat allotment — no separate merit list based on Class 12 marks is prepared.

How to Access the Bihar UGEAC 2026 Rank Card

  • Go to bceceboard.bihar.gov.in and click on the UGEAC 2026 Rank Card link on the notice board
  • Log in with your Bihar UGEAC 2026 registration number and password
  • Download and print the rank card
  • Keep the rank card safe — you will need it at the time of document verification

How the Bihar UGEAC 2026 Rank Is Determined

BCECEB uses your JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 AIR directly, without any additional weightage or state-level normalisation. If two candidates share the same JEE Main AIR, BCECEB applies a tiebreaker in this order:

  • Higher marks in Mathematics in JEE Main 2026
  • Higher marks in Physics in JEE Main 2026
  • Higher marks in Chemistry in JEE Main 2026
  • If all three are equal, the candidate older in age is ranked higher

Candidates in the merit list are ranked separately within each category — General, EWS, SC, ST, EBC, BC, and RCG. Your rank within your category determines your priority during seat allotment.

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Choice Filling: How to Fill and Lock Choices

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Round 1 choice filling started on June 26, 2026 and closes on July 1, 2026. This is the most important step in the entire process — the college and branch you end up with depends entirely on the choices you lock and your JEE Main 2026 rank. BCECEB’s automated system picks the best available option from your locked list based on your merit rank.

Choice filling for Bihar UGEAC 2026 Round 1 is active right now. The last date to lock your preferences is July 1, 2026. Do not wait until the last day — server congestion near the deadline can cause submission failures.

Steps to Fill Bihar UGEAC 2026 Choices Online

  • Step 1: Log in at bceceboard.bihar.gov.in with your registration number and password
  • Step 2: Open the seat matrix to check category-wise seat availability at each college and branch
  • Step 3: Search for colleges and branches and add the ones you want to your preference list
  • Step 4: Arrange choices in strict order of preference — the combination you want the most must be at the top
  • Step 5: Review the final list carefully, then click Lock Choices before July 1, 2026

Once you lock your choices, no changes are possible for Round 1. The system will use your locked list for seat allotment on July 4, 2026. An empty or very short choice list significantly reduces your chances of getting allotted.

How to Use the 2026 Seat Matrix During Choice Filling

BCECEB released the UGEAC 2026 seat matrix on June 23, 2026 alongside the rank card. The seat matrix lists the number of seats available at each college, in each branch, for each category. Before adding any choice, check whether seats exist in your category for that specific college-branch combination. Popular branches like CSE may have fewer available seats than expected in some categories due to the new branch additions absorbing part of the allocation.

  • For new branches like CSE (AI&ML), Data Science, and Cyber Security — seats are limited and likely to fill in Round 1 itself at better-ranked colleges
  • All India Quota seats and state quota seats are listed separately — candidates without Bihar domicile should focus only on AIQ seats

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Seat Allotment: Round 1 and Round 2

Bihar UGEAC 2026 has two rounds of seat allotment. Both rounds are conducted online by BCECEB. Seat allotment is strictly merit-based — your JEE Main 2026 AIR and the order of choices you locked determine the outcome. Higher-ranked candidates get first pick from their preference lists.

Round 1 Seat Allotment

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Round 1 provisional seat allotment is expected on July 4, 2026. Candidates can download the allotment letter from July 4 to 9, 2026 at bceceboard.bihar.gov.in. The allotment letter shows the college and branch assigned to you provisionally.

  • If you are satisfied with the Round 1 allotment, report for document verification at the allotted college from July 7 to 9, 2026 to confirm the seat
  • If you want a better seat, you can participate in Round 2 — but check BCECEB’s rules on whether your Round 1 seat is retained as a backup while you attempt to upgrade

Round 2 Seat Allotment

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Round 2 provisional seat allotment is scheduled for July 17, 2026. Round 2 fills seats left vacant after Round 1 reporting and also gives candidates a chance to upgrade to a better college or branch if their rank allows. The allotment letter for Round 2 can be downloaded from July 17 to 21, 2026, and document verification for Round 2 is from July 20 to 21, 2026.

Read all official instructions from BCECEB carefully before deciding to participate in Round 2 to upgrade. Depending on BCECEB’s policy, your Round 1 seat may be forfeited if you accept a different Round 2 allotment — understand the rules before opting in.

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Round-wise Allotment Schedule

Event Round 1 Round 2
Provisional Seat Allotment July 4, 2026 July 17, 2026
Download Allotment Letter July 4 – 9, 2026 July 17 – 21, 2026
Document Verification at Allotted College July 7 – 9, 2026 July 20 – 21, 2026

After both rounds, any remaining vacant seats may be filled through a special round or spot admissions at the discretion of BCECEB. Watch the official notice board for any post-Round 2 announcements.

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Document Verification

Document verification is the only offline step in Bihar UGEAC 2026. You must physically report to your allotted college within the specified dates with all original documents. If you miss this step, your allotment is automatically cancelled — there is no grace period or second opportunity within the same round.

Documents Required for Bihar UGEAC 2026 Document Verification

  • Bihar UGEAC 2026 Provisional Allotment Letter — download from bceceboard.bihar.gov.in after July 4 (Round 1) or July 17 (Round 2); bring 3 printed copies
  • JEE Main 2026 Admit Card — original
  • JEE Main 2026 Scorecard / Result — original
  • Class 10 Marksheet and Passing Certificate — original plus 2 sets of self-attested photocopies
  • Class 12 Marksheet and Passing Certificate — original plus 2 sets of self-attested photocopies
  • Bihar Domicile / Permanent Residential Certificate — original plus photocopy (issued by Bihar authorities only)
  • Caste Certificate (SC/ST/EBC/BC) or EWS Income Certificate — if applicable; must be issued by a competent Bihar authority
  • Aadhar Card — original plus photocopy
  • PwD Certificate — if applicable; must be from a designated government medical board
  • 6 recent passport-size photographs

All original documents must be produced physically at the allotted college. Category and domicile certificates issued by authorities outside Bihar are not valid for reservation benefits. Any mismatch or forgery detected during verification leads to immediate cancellation of the allotment and possible legal consequences.

Once document verification is completed and accepted by the college, your provisional admission is confirmed. The college will issue a verification receipt — keep it safely for all future reference.

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Expected Cutoff: Category and College-Wise

Bihar UGEAC 2026 official cutoff ranks will be released after each counselling round in the form of opening and closing JEE Main 2026 AIRs for each college-branch-category combination. The 2026 cutoffs have not yet been published — they will be available after Round 1 seat allotment on July 4, 2026. The data below is based on 2025 previous year trends and is meant only for reference and planning.

Bihar UGEAC 2026 cutoff ranks are not yet published. The numbers below are from 2025 and are for estimation purposes only. Actual 2026 cutoffs will depend on JEE Main 2026 difficulty, total applicants, seat matrix changes, and competition level.

Factors That Influence Bihar UGEAC Cutoff Each Year

  • JEE Main difficulty: A tougher paper shifts AIR distributions — candidates with the same marks end up with different ranks compared to an easier year
  • Total registered candidates: More applicants competing for the same seats generally tightens closing ranks
  • Seat matrix changes: New seats or new branches (like 2026’s CSE AI&ML and Data Science additions) redistribute demand and can relax closing ranks in legacy branches
  • Category competition: SC, ST, EWS, and EBC categories have different closing ranks from General; EBC and BC seats fill at higher rank numbers than General at the same college
  • Branch popularity: CSE consistently closes at the tightest rank range; Civil and Mechanical branches at older colleges close at much higher (less competitive) ranks

Bihar UGEAC 2025 Cutoff — Round 1 (Previous Year, For Reference Only)

College Branch General Opening Rank (2025) General Closing Rank (2025)
MIT Muzaffarpur CSE 123 8,412
GCE Gaya CSE ~200 ~1,411
BCE Bhagalpur CSE ~300 ~1,821
GCE Buxar CSE 39 10,356

Newer GECs (Banka, Araria, etc.) Civil Engineering ~50,000 ~6,00,000+

Source: Bihar UGEAC 2025 Round 1 Official Cutoff PDF — BCECEB

Category-Wise Closing Rank Ranges (EWS, SC — 2025 Trends)

  • EWS category — Expected closing ranks for Round 1 at top colleges like MIT Muzaffarpur and BCE Bhagalpur range between approximately 1,95,000 and 5,50,000 AIR based on 2025 data
  • SC category — MIT Muzaffarpur CSE had an SC closing rank of around 1,733 in 2025; for Civil Engineering the SC closing rank was much higher (above 30,000)
  • Newer GECs — All categories close at significantly higher (more accessible) rank numbers in newer district-level GECs compared to the established colleges

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Reservation Policy

Bihar UGEAC 2026 follows the reservation framework set by the Government of Bihar. All seats are first divided into state quota (85%) and All India Quota (15%), and category-based reservation is applied only within the state quota seats.

State Quota Seats (85% of Total) — Category-Wise Reservation

State quota seats are exclusively for candidates with a valid Bihar domicile certificate. The reservation distribution within state quota is:

Category Reservation Percentage (within State Quota)
General / Unreserved (UR) 50%
SC (Scheduled Caste) 16%
ST (Scheduled Tribe) 1%
EBC (Extremely Backward Class) 18%
BC (Backward Class) 12%
RCG (Reserved Category Girls) 3% horizontal, within reserved category sub-quotas

Horizontal Reservations (Applied Across All Vertical Categories)

  • EWS (Economically Weaker Section): 10% horizontal reservation on state quota seats — for General category candidates with a valid EWS income certificate from a Bihar government authority; annual family income must be below ₹8 lakh
  • PwD (Person with Disability): 3% horizontal reservation across all categories — candidates must have 40% or higher disability, certified by a government medical board

All India Quota Seats (15% of Total) — No Reservation

The 15% All India Quota seats can be claimed by candidates from any state. There is no category-based reservation for AIQ seats — all AIQ seats are filled purely on General/Unreserved merit. Bihar domicile is not required to claim AIQ seats, though Bihar candidates can also compete for them on JEE Main 2026 AIR.

Category certificates (SC/ST/EBC/BC/EWS) from outside Bihar are not accepted for reservation benefits under Bihar UGEAC. You must produce certificates issued by competent Bihar authorities at document verification.

Tips for Bihar UGEAC 2026 Choice Filling and Counselling

Bihar UGEAC 2026 Round 1 choice filling is active right now — you have until July 1, 2026. Your JEE Main 2026 rank is fixed, but how strategically you fill choices can significantly change which college and branch you end up with. Here are actionable tips for every phase ahead.

Right Now: Filling Choices Before July 1, 2026

  • Fill as many choices as possible: There is no penalty for adding more options. Candidates who add only 5–10 choices risk getting nothing if those seats all go to higher-ranked candidates. List every viable college-branch combination you would accept.
  • Put your top preference first: BCECEB’s system assigns you the best available option from your locked list. If you put a less-preferred college at the top by mistake, the system may allot you that college even when your rank qualifies for a better one placed lower.
  • Use 2025 closing ranks to shortlist realistic options: Before adding any choice, check the 2025 cutoff — if your rank falls within the General or category closing rank for that college-branch, it is a viable pick. If your rank is well beyond the closing rank, skip it unless adding as a last-resort backup.
  • Do not skip smaller-district GECs: Newer government engineering colleges in districts like Banka, Arwal, Lakhisarai, and Sheikhpura have much more accessible closing ranks and carry the same government engineering college status. Add them as backups.
  • Check seat matrix carefully for new branches: CSE (AI&ML), Data Science, and Cyber Security are new for 2026. Seat counts are limited. Add them if interested, and rank them based on realistic chances from the official seat matrix.
  • Add both AIQ and state quota versions if applicable: If your rank can qualify under the All India Quota for a college, add both the AIQ and state quota variants for the same college-branch to maximise your allotment chances.

After Round 1 Allotment — July 4, 2026 Onwards

  • Download and read the allotment letter immediately: The allotment letter contains your college, branch, and reporting deadlines. Read every instruction — the document verification reporting centre is typically the allotted college itself.
  • Prepare all documents before July 7: Round 1 document verification is July 7–9, just 3 days after the allotment. Collect all originals — domicile certificate, caste/EWS certificate, Class 10 and 12 marksheets — well before July 4 to avoid last-minute issues.
  • Decide on Round 2 participation carefully: If you want to try upgrading in Round 2, understand BCECEB’s policy on whether your Round 1 seat is retained during the upgrade attempt. Do not give up a confirmed seat without fully understanding the rules.
  • Complete Round 1 verification even if you plan to upgrade: Completing document verification for Round 1 typically secures your current seat as a confirmed backup. Skipping verification cancels the allotment outright, leaving you with nothing if Round 2 also does not work out.
