Course Structure

This course is divided in 4 years, 8 semesters that is 2 semesters each year. The marks of the students are based on their performances in theory, lab work and research project assigned to them.

This subject helps a student in understanding the theory of preparation and selection of yarn for fabric formation.

Solid mechanics
  • Stress, strain and deformation of solids

To teach the students on various topics related to solids. It equips the student topics of beams and pipelines.

Technology of yarn spinning
  • Ring spinning

To enable the students to learn the theory of yarn formation by different spinning systems.

Process control in spinning

Ques. What should I choose, Electrical in IIT Mandi or Textile in IIT Delhi?

Ans. If you ask me which one to choose I would say choosing Textile from IIT Delhi is a better option than opting for Electrical in IIT Mandi. IIT Delhi is known for its excellent academic standards and research opportunities that it offers to students. IIT Delhi offers 4 years full-time undergraduate program for Textile Engineering, the average course fee is around INR 10-8 lakhs. IIT provides good placement opportunities for the students with about 90% of the students being placed. The highest package is INR 60 LPA and the average package is between INR 15- 20 LPA .Read more

Ans. I don’t have much idea about textile engineering at IIT Delhi and Civil Engineering at ISM Dhanbad, but I can surely guide you on Civil engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar. IIT Bhubaneswarecognizednised for having excellent faculties with industry expertise offering the students both academic and research insights. IIT Bhubaneswar offers 5 years B.Tech in Civil Engineering + M.Tech Transportation Engineering. The total course fee for 5 years is around INR 8.9 Lakhs . IIT Bhubaneswar offers good placement opportunities for the students. With 80% of students being placed in 2023, the highest package is INR 38.7 LPA and the average is INR 12.85 LPA .Read more

Ques. Is it a good choice to prefer IIT Delhi textile over IIIT Delhi CSE, considering the fact that branch change is quite hard in IITD?

Ans. IIT Delhi has a much greater brand value as compared to IIIT Delhi. IIT D is superior in many aspects, one of which is campus life.  I have many friends in IITD Textile. They bagged foreign internships in the IT sector during their second year. The coursework for Textile is very manageable. You’ll get ample time to practice coding on your own. Don’t worry about branch change. Even for a career in CS/IT, self-practice will get you through. Also, opt for the open electives offered at IIT Delhi. You’ll ace CS/IT placement tests, and secure a good job. Thus, I would recommend you choose IIT Delhi Textile over IIIT Delhi CSE. Read more

Ans. Both institutes are well known for their excellent education and opportunities offered. So you can choose the branch and college on the basis of your own preferences. However, some points you might want or consider Campus : NIT Delhi operates from a temporary campus which is located far away from the country and its permanent campus is still under construction. IIT Delhi on the other hand is a fully-fledged established Institute with a fully functioning well facilitated campus. Placements : Although Textile Engineering has very few core job opportunities, people tend to go for non-core jobs instead to secure a high-paying job at a top company. Meanwhile, NIT Delhi being younger than IIT Delhi has fewer companies visiting campus with CS roles despite being a demanded branch. If you are actually keen to pursue CSE, go for better Engineering colleges like NITs, DTU, NSIT, and IIIT D. In fact even at IIT Delhi, you can pursue your coding passion alongside your main branch textile and sit for IT placements. Many events hosted by industry experts, CEOs of big companies, and successful entrepreneurs will give a better insight into the startup culture. Moreover, students preparing for competing exams can easily access coaching centers nearby. Research in Biotechnology: If you are interested in research in general or Biotechnology specifically, then the Biotechnology at KGP is an excellent choice. It is one of the most demanding fields in terms of research and general growth. With a good CGPA, you can find a research internship or you can apply for MS or Ph.D. Even job opportunities are plentiful.  Campus: IIT Delhi is better because of its small size and location Lastly, Engineering Physics from IIT Guwahati should be considered only if you are genuinely passionate about Physics and want to pursue a research career in the same. Ranking-wise the preference order of the above-mentioned courses is  IIT Delhi > IIT Kanpur > IIT Roorkee > IIT BHU Based on their closing rank, the branches can be arranged in the following order  Chemical>Metallurgy>Textile  This was based on general data, but if you have an inclination towards a specific branch, then go for it without much hesitation. Your passion will keep you motivated despite various challenges thrown at you. But in case you have no specific preference, then you can consider the college and branch ranking to make an informed decision. Apart from CS and Electrical, students from most branches opt for non-core jobs which require much more than their core academics for placements. Ans. Whether MSU Baroda is a good place to study textile engineering depends on a few factors. If you are from Gujarat and do not want to study outside of Gujarat, you can choose MSU Baroda because there are only a few options for Textile Engineering in Gujarat. Otherwise, there are better textile colleges outside of Gujarat, such as IIT Delhi, DKTE (Maharashtra), GCTI (Kanpur, UP), and so on. The majority of the teachers in the Textile Department at MSU Baroda are excellent and helpful. There is also a good learning infrastructure. Ans. Out of textile engineering from VJTI and CS from KJ Somaiya, CS from Somaiya will be a better choice. As one of my friends studied there, I am able to share some facts about it. CSE is a trending branch and the most popular one. The best option for you will be KJ Somaiya. When it comes to placement at KJ Somaiya, they are decent. A total of 70 companies visited the campus for on-campus placements and offered great salary packages. The campus life at KJ Somaiya is amazing and is very welcoming. KJ Somaiya is an autonomous college and there are many advantages of being from a college with an autonomous status. Categories Textile Engineering at VJTI CS at KJ Somaiya Course Fee 3.24 lakhs 13.80 lakhs Highest CTC 18-19 LPA 23 LPA Average CTC 4-5 LPA 15 LPA Recruiting Companies Pantaloons, Raymond, Reliance, Amazon, etc. Capgemini, KPMG, Morgan Stanley, Wipro, etc. Choosing textile engineering from the VJTI can get a bit tricky further in your career.
