BTech in Robotics Engineering: FAQs

Ques. How can I become a robotics engineer after class 12th?

Ans. For pursuing a career as a robotics engineer after 12th, the candidate should have passed class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Then they will have to choose BTech in Robotics Engineering as their undergraduate degree course. After completion of the course, they will be eligible to work as a robotics engineer. If they want to be more skilled in this field, then they should go for higher studies, i.e, M.Tech and Ph.D. in Robotics.

Ques. Is it necessary to do BTech Robotics Engineering to build a career in Robotics?

Ans. No, it is not necessary. Robotics is an interdisciplinary course and it requires knowledge in more than one area of engineering. So the candidates who hold UG degrees in mechanical engineering, electronics engineering, design engineering, computer science engineering, and machine learning & AI are also eligible to build a career in robotics. But it would be beneficial if they pursue a PG Diploma or a master’s degree in robotics.

Ques. Is there any demand for robotics engineers?

Ans. According to the US Bureau of Labour Statistics, the robotics market will show 9% job market growth from 2016 - 2026. It is expected to add about 25,300 jobs over the forecast period.

Ques. What are the top companies that hire robotic engineers?

Ans. The companies like TATA, BHEL, BARC, DiFACTO Robotics and Automation, NASA, Tech Mahindra Ltd, Kuka Robotics, ISRO, etc. hire robotic engineers.

Ques. Does Robotics need coding?

Ans. Yes, robotics do need coding. The robotic students are usually taught about the applied algorithm and AI, which will also involve the study of some of the programming languages. Also, to make the robot do the desired function, it needs to be programmed.

Ques. Is robotics engineering a good career?

Ans. The manufacturing industries are being automated so that production could be increased to fulfill the demand of the increasing population. Humans are not capable of working for 24 hours a day but robots can. Therefore robots are highly efficient. Robots are currents used in the manufacturing plants, laboratories, medical fields, mining, automation sector, aerospace engineering, agriculture, etc. The demand for robots is increasing and thus robotic engineering is a good career to start with.

Faculty

Some of the faculty are very educated and are friendly. Few of them don't care about teaching. They just read the ppts and call it a day. The assignments they give are very hectic. More than the exams. My batch had 2 exams per sem. One is internals for 50 other one for 100.. Exams are not hard. Assignments, quizes are taken into consoderation for the final grade. If you get above 92 you get a 'O' grade which is the highest.

Campus Life

There are not many fests happening in this campus. There is no proper space for it to happen too. There are many clubs like robotics, photography etc. They are run by students. According to my knowledge there is no proper sports team except soccer. Every classroom has a monitor and a projector. There are many academic/Educational books in the library. But you cant find any entertainment books.

Placement Experience

My branch is new there is not any batch placed from my course but overall placement is very good nearly 80 percent students are placed from 7rd semester students are eligible for placement. Company like google, Amazon, Flipkart, TCS, Amantya Technologies, Yamaha Motor Solutions, SquadStack, Josh Technology, TCS, and Trilogy Innovations are coming for visit and give offer of 15-50 lakh rupees. Highest package is offered by Google company last year to a enc student of 60 lakh. Nearly 80 percent students are placed I also take placement after degree

Faculty

There is 1 facility over 15 students. The relationship between faculty and students is too good . They are always stand for helping students. Lalit Kumar sir is my favourite faculty bcz he always help me solving numerical problems. Mechanical engineering faculties are the best. I didn't like the maths teacher Anita bcz she only complete the syllabus not thinking that no body can understand it There are 2 sessional exam and one semester exam in one semester they are moderated 2-3 students are failed every semester from 35

Faculty

The faculty to student ratio is very good . The faculty's are very friendly and they clarify our doubts and my learning experience is good with the faculty. The faculty's credentials and their approach to teaching is excellent and their mentornship in giving us project ideas and guiding us how to do projects and helping us in the projects is very good . We can interact with teachers when ever we want in college hours they are approachable and friendly they clarify all our doubts and explain it clearly.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course i choose is robotics and artificial intelligence it was a new branch when i joined and i wanted to learn something new from other branches. The curriculum prepares us very well for real world applications they train us with various robotics projects which helps us in future academics. The areas for improvements is that they should have kept more ai related subjects too as it is new branch they should keep more faculties with experience.

Course Curriculum Overview

I chose this course according to my will and interest.Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Seems to be an exciting curriculum to opt for.Real life applications can be further focused upon Though our studies but not as much.Relevent subject like coding is what needs to be focused upon.Difficulty levels are high during open books

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees for my particular course is constant as year1.The total fees is rs 10,00,000.This is including tuition fees, hostel, mess. The hostel and mess fees for nri category is high as compared to normal category even though the facilities are the same. This is a disadvantage to be noted. No campus employment opportunities available.

Faculty

The good part of the fully flexible credit system is that the faculty you get is selected by you. So , your learning experience is in your hands, you are the one creating and building your college life here. In one class the ratio is usually 1:60 , which fluctuates depending on the demand of your chosen faculty. Interacting with them depends on their personality , if they are calm and approachable it will be easy for you to clear your doubts and queries , else its gonna be really hard. Some teachers use power point presentation's to teach and some dont.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees you are going to pay for all for years of engineering is the fee u pay ur first year, this applies for only tuition fee, hostel fee tends to change, even mess fees tend to change. Fees in vit chennai is different for everyone that is , there is category 1,2,3,4,5 and getting into a category depends on your VITEEE examination rank and the availabilty of seats in your course. Category 1 has the least fee around 2 lakhs and Cat 5 has the highest of 4.9 lakhs. Scholarship is given to students who score top ranks in the VITEEE examinations.

Campus Life

There are multiple clubs and chapters in VIT, with their numbers still increasing. The flagship events in VIT Chennai are Vibrance, the cultural fest, and TechnoVIT, the Technical fest. The library is well equipped although the library staff is occasionally uncooperative, but the automatic issuing system in the library negates this. Each class is provided with projectors and books are discouraged, instead promoting the use of tablets and laptops. There is sports grounds of all sorts, including A football field, two basketball fields, a common ground, a cricket ground, gyms, climbing studios, and numerous indoor games. VIT also encourages student-run groups and clubs, the most prominent being VITrends, the unofficial newsletter/hub of VIT.

Placement Experience

Students can sign up for placements from the 7th semester. The highest package as of the previous session was 1.15 crores with an average package of 6 lakhs. VIT boasts a 100 percent placement record but the students who can attend campus placements are 7.5 cgpa plus students, which significantly cuts down the actual placement percentages. My plans in VIT are to get placed in a company offering a position of 10 lakhs plus LPA.
