Ques. What is the difference between BAMS and MBBS, and which one should I choose?
Ans. BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) is a 5-year program focused on traditional Ayurvedic medicine combined with modern medical sciences, while MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) is a 5.5-year program focused on allopathic medicine. BAMS graduates practice Ayurvedic medicine and can establish clinics or work in Ayurvedic hospitals and research institutions. MBBS graduates practice allopathic medicine in hospitals and clinics. The choice depends on your interest in traditional medicine systems versus modern allopathic medicine. Both are recognized medical qualifications with distinct career paths and specialization options.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing BAMS?
Ans. BAMS graduates have diverse career options including establishing private Ayurvedic clinics, working in government Ayurvedic hospitals and dispensaries, pharmaceutical industry positions, research in Ayurvedic sciences, teaching in medical colleges, public health roles with AYUSH ministry, and wellness center management. Many graduates pursue higher studies like MD/MS in Ayurveda or PhD programs. Government positions are available through competitive examinations like UPSC and state civil services. The average starting salary ranges from INR 4.7-6 LPA in hospital positions, with higher earnings possible through private practice.
Ques. Is Panchkarma therapy an important part of the BAMS curriculum?
Ans. Yes, Panchkarma is a crucial component of the BAMS curriculum at GAMCH. The college has a dedicated Panchkarma department with experienced faculty and trained therapists. Students receive comprehensive training in Panchkarma procedures including Vamana (emesis), Virechana (purgation), Basti (enema), Nasya (nasal therapy), and Raktamokshana (bloodletting). Ans. Yes, BAMS graduates can pursue various higher studies including MD (Doctor of Medicine) in Ayurveda with specializations in Kayachikitsa, Shalya Tantra, Prasuti Tantra, Kaumarbhritya, Panchkarma, and other disciplines. PhD programs in Ayurvedic Sciences are also available for research-oriented candidates. Many graduates pursue postgraduate diplomas in specialized areas like Panchkarma, Yoga, or Ayurvedic Pharmacy. Some graduates also pursue courses in hospital management, public health, or business administration to enhance their career prospects.
Ques. What is the admission process for BAMS at GAMCH?
Ans. The admission process for BAMS at GAMCH is entirely based on NEET UG scores. Candidates must appear for NEET UG 2026 exam scheduled on May 3, 2026. After result declaration in June 2026, candidates register for counselling conducted by DGME, Uttar Pradesh. During counselling, candidates fill their choice of colleges and courses. Seat allotment is done based on NEET rank, category, and choice preference. Selected candidates must report to the college with original documents for verification and complete admission formalities.
