The City College in Kolkata, West Bengal was first started as a High School (City School) in 1879. Established by Sadharan Brahmo Samaj, the college was elevated to a college in 1881. It is affiliated with Calcutta University. City College is a NAAC accredited institute. The college offers BA, B.SC and B.Com courses in several disciplines. The courses at undergraduate level are offered in both Honors and General mode.

  • Application forms for all the courses are accepted through online mode only.
  • A candidate may apply for more than one subject with separate application form and application fee for each course.
  • For admissions to BA, B.Com, and B.Sc courses, candidates should have passed HSC with the concerned subject from any of WBCHSE/ ISC/ CBSE/ NIOS/ WBCROS Boards only.
  • Selection to the courses is strictly on the basis of merit in the qualifying exam.
  • Merit list is prepared taking into account candidate’s performance in the top four subjects in the qualifying exam and the performance in the concerned subject.

City College B.Sc., B.Com, BA Admission 2024

City College offers three-year BA, B.Sc, and B.Com course in various disciplines. The undergraduate courses are offered as both Honors and General courses. Applicants should have passed 10+2 along with the concerned subject of admission. Selection to each UG course is on the basis of merit list.

Merit list is drawn considering candidate’s marks in top four subjects in the qualifying exam i.e. HSC plus marks in the subject of specialization. Students will have to choose, two Elective subjects from those groups only which are mentioned under subject combination in the table.

Subjects in various groups for BA Hons course are:

Group 1: Bengali/ Hindi

Group 2: Economics / English

Group 3: History/ Political Science

Group 4: Philosophy/ Sanskrit

Chemistry Physics and Mathematics 50 10+2 with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in Chemistry.
Mathematics Physics and Chemistry 60 Passed HSC with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 45% in Mathematics.
Economics Mathematics and Political Science 50
Physics Chemistry and Mathematics 45 Passed HSC with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in PCM subjects.
BA (Hons.) Bengali Two subjects taking one from Group 2/ Group 3/ Group 4 60 Passed 10+2 with 50% marks in aggregate and 45% marks in the concerned subject.
History Two subjects taking one from Group 1/ Group 2/ Group 4 60

B.Com (Hons) Accountancy - 300 Passed HSC with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in marks secured in top four subjects and 60% marks in the concerned subject.
B.Sc (General) Physical Science Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics 150 Candidate should have passed HSC along with PCM subjects. Aggregate marks in best of four subjects.
Biological Science Physiology, Zoology, Botany 150 Passed HSC with Biology as a subject.
BA (General) Group 1: Bengali / Hindi 100 10+2; Pass marks in aggregate and pass marks in subjects which the candidate intends to study.
Group 2: Economics / English
Group 3: History / Political Science
Group 4: Philosophy / Sanskrit
B.Com (Gen) - - 150 Candidates should have passed HSC along with relevant commerce subject.

Key Points:

  • Only students who have passed HSC from WBCHSE/ ISC/ CBSE/ NIOS/ WBCROS are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates should have passed English as a subject in 10+2.
  • Only those who have passed HSC in 2020 and 2021 are eligible for admission.
  • Relaxation of 10% marks in Compulsory subjects and 5% marks in the related subjects in the eligibility criteria for SC/ ST category candidates.
  • SC/ ST applicants from other states will be considered as General candidates.

City College, Kolkata Application Process 2024

The application process for the undergraduate courses offered by the institute is online. Candidates seeking admission need to follow following steps to apply online.

  • Visit the official website of City College, Kolkata.
  • Fill the application form correctly.
  •  If a candidate wants to apply for more than one subject, separate application forms are needed to be filled.
  • Make payment of INR 200 (bank charges extra) through online payment services or at any branch of SBI.
  • Candidates need not send a print out of the application form to the college.
  • Candidates who find a place in the merit list need to appear for counseling to confirm the admission.
  • Documents to be produced at the counseling:
  1. Print out of Application Form with photographs and signatures.
  2. Proof of payment of Admission Fees.
  3. Passing certificate of HSC and SSC.
  4. Mark sheets of Secondary and Higher Secondary or equivalent Examinations.
  5. Caste Certificate (if applicable).

City College, Kolkata Reservation

Reservation criteria will be followed according to the existing norm of the government.

  • Benefits of the reservation will only be given to candidates belonging to the state of West Bengal.
  • Those belonging to reserved categories should possess a valid certificate in support of their claim.
  • OBC candidates should possess certificate mentioning their category A/B.

Admission:

Well, I applied for Bethune college, Bangabasi College, Seth Anandram Jaipuria College and City College. Out of which my name came on the merit list of all the college but I chose City College because it was very convenient for me to travel there. I was not rejected from any on the college I applied. The eligibility criteria for City College is atleast 50% marks in board exam. Though the cutoff are quite high and ranges between 100-70 in the particular subject you are opting for

Admission:

When I took admission in City College,I opted for other colleges too(all were government aided colleges),I didn't have money to take admission in luxurious private colleges.The other colleges I opted for,were quite far from my home and the transportation is quite complex while City College is quite easy to reach with various transportation mediums available for all.Also City College is one of the oldest colleges in Kolkata and the building looks absolutely vintage.So I chose City College over other colleges I opted for.

The college conducts admission on the basis of the merit of the students from their 10+2 results. In Bcom Honours the total capacity was 330 students. the students are required to fill up the admission form on the college website and wait for the merit list to be announced. No this is not entrance exam for taking admission in city college is all about depends on your 12th marks.. You need minimum 60% marks in any stream and and your need to fill online form from college website and then the merit list will be issue and then the their is an option for willingness if you want to join or not then the final merit list will be prepare and after that your name come to list you have to pay fees

You ge reservetion benefits for people belonging from OBC,ST and SC.You get fair eligibility criteria which is normal for colleges and your name comes out in the Merit list of the college, then you need to proceed with admission process.

A minimum of 60% marks were required for the course. forms were available on the college's official websites. I didn't take admission via reservation so I dont know much about that. I would be happy if the portals of the college websites would be available for mobile phones

Eligibility ~ A minimum of 60% aggregate marks should be attained in the Higher Secondary (+2) examinations from a recognized board. Where to find the application form ~ All the details regarding admission can be found on the college website. www.citycollegekolkata.org Admission ~ The admission was conducted through an online merit-based system. The improvements that can be made are, that a PI and Counselling round can be introduced so that the college has more refined students and the authorities get to know the students better.
