AAFT B.Sc Cinema FAQs
Ques. What are the three specialisations available in BSc Cinema at AAFT, and how do I choose one?
Ans. The BSc Cinema programme at AAFT is offered with three specialisation tracks: (1) Direction - focused on screenplay interpretation, working with actors, shot design, and directorial aesthetics; (2) Cinematography - focused on camera operation, lighting, visual composition, and cinematographic techniques; and (3) Post Production - focused on editing, sound design, color grading, and visual effects. Students can choose their specialisation based on their career interest. The specialisation subjects begin from Semester 3 onwards, while the first two semesters cover common foundational subjects.
Ques. Is BSc Cinema at AAFT equivalent to a degree from FTII or SRFTI?
Ans. No. BSc Cinema at AAFT is a private university degree programme, while FTII (Film and Television Institute of India) and SRFTI (Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute) are government-run institutes with highly competitive entrance exams. AAFT's BSc Cinema is a full-time 3-year degree with a structured curriculum and industry exposure, but it is not equivalent to FTII/SRFTI in terms of government recognition or competitive prestige. However, AAFT offers strong practical training, industry connections, and placement support that make it a viable option for aspiring filmmakers.
Ques. What kind of films do students make during the BSc Cinema programme at AAFT?
Ans. Students work on a progressive series of film productions across 6 semesters. These include: a dialogue-free film (2-5 minutes) in Semester 2, an ad film in Semester 3, a documentary film in Semester 4, a short film (5 minutes) and a music video in Semester 5, and a final fiction film (20 minutes) in Semester 6. Students in the Direction specialisation also work on dynamic practical exercises, storyboarding, and scheduling/budgeting projects.
Ques. Does AAFT have professional film production infrastructure for BSc Cinema students?

Students are trained on industry-standard tools including Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and Avid Media Composer. The campus also hosts an annual In-House Global Film Festival, which provides students with a real-world film festival experience.
