In the medical field, traditional placements do not exist. Instead, students must complete a mandatory one-year internship after their MBBS degree, primarily in their college hospital, with a stipend ranging from approximately 11,000 to 18,000 INR per month. This internship includes rotations across various clinical departments, such as Medicine, Surgery, and Pediatrics, and provides significant clinical exposure despite being demanding and often underappreciated. Following the internship, students are required to take the NEET PG exam to pursue postgraduate studies, and their placements in postgraduate programs depend on their exam scores.
There is a compulsory one-year service bond in rural areas for medical graduates in Maharashtra, with a penalty of ten lakhs INR for non-compliance. After completing the internship and any required service, graduates can work as medical officers in public health centers or hospitals in India with salaries ranging from 45,000 to 75,000 INR per month.
