Faculty of Law, Delhi University Faculties : Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 60 Reviews

The Faculty of Law at Delhi University boasts a diverse range of faculty members, including around 150 Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors. Most faculty members hold advanced degrees such as LL.M. or Ph.D., and many are recognized experts, including former judges and legal scholars. Notable professors include Prof. Upendra Baxi, Prof. Ved Kumari, and Prof. Poonam Pradhan Saxena. The faculty is praised for their expertise, practical knowledge, and student support, although there are some concerns about the quality of ad-hoc teachers.

Despite a student-teacher ratio challenge, with classes having up to 80 students, the permanent faculty, with 15-20 years of experience, is considered more competent than the ad-hoc faculty. The college also hosts guest lectures by senior advocates and legal experts and supports extracurricular activities. While some faculty members are highly regarded for their teaching and approachability, the variability in teaching quality is noted.

So there are very few faculties in the college but they all are very good. Quality over quantity. There are teachers like Saurav rana and Belu Ma'am who are former judges. They have very good command on the law, Bare acts, cases.

Faculty here in all the three centres are very good and many of them are even judges. But in our first year we didn't get teacher for contra law and then they provide a guest teacher in last days . Belu gupta mam is fantastic, she is an ex-judge, and is very sweet. Infact all the teachers are very good like kalpana sharma mam, saurabh Rana sir. Exams are difficult,in first year you have two 5 exams in each semester i.e. in 2 semesters, total 10 exams. Many students got backlogs in exams. Approx 30 students got backlog in contract law.

The student teacher ratio is quite contrast with more then the teacher can take . Making maintaining a close relationship with teacher a hard task. The teachers are not necessarily the best and sometimes lacking of quality. Teacher student interaction oten ends in the classroom itself

The student-teacher ratio is very low, a class has 80 students so that is a problem in teaching. The faculty have good credentials but they seem disinterested in teaching often involve in student politics The teachers are interactive and approachable.

Faculty:

The faculty to student ratio is very good in university there is no need of more teacher ,they have enough teacher to make u understand things in better way ! Also there is provision for guest faculty who are also very much qualified!! The approach which law faculty follow is similar to all foreign universities where they teach using case study of different cases of supreme court, High court. In faculty you can interact with them any time you want they are always available for you .

The faculty is really well qualified as it is DU and they are really concerned about giving the best to the students. The faculty is really very supportive. The teachers are very polite. The teachers are alumni of various top law universities of country and abroad and most importantly there is not a bit of arrogance in them.

Faculty of Law, Delhi University: 1 Answered Question

What was your experience at the Faculty of Law DU? Is it worth it to study law there?

Ranjana Patra
Raja YaduvanshiStudied Law at Campus Law Centre, Delhi University

One of my friends studied at the Faculty of Law, DU. She believes that getting admission there is one of the best things that happened to her as it has guided her career path in a lot of ways. Thus, it is worth studying there. Here is what she shares about her experience as a student:

  • It is located in the center of North Campus, just a few blocks from every illustrious DU college. The canteen, gym, library, and all other services are open, and food is subsidized.

  • The most crucial factor is your peers. At the law school, you'll discover a lovely and hard-working crowd where everyone is eager to assist you if you are struggling in any way, even during the semester exams.

  • The tea shop and chatting on any subject under the sun are a terrific way to spend an evening at the Wisdom Tree, which is always proudly standing in the courtyard of the old faculty area. The teachers and guides are decent. The syllabus and course materials are excellent, and they even offer free high-quality materials.

  • Marking is a bit difficult. The question paper standard is on par with that of the UPSC and occasionally even higher than that of the judicial services. So, in order to get into the First Division, one must work hard. It is impossible to stand apart.

The faculty is among the most qualified and experienced in the country. One of the teachers who taught IPC there recently rose to ninth place in the Bihar Judicial Services. You can imagine the difficulty and the level.

The college has produced some of the country's best judges, lawyers, and bureaucrats.
