Sir M Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology Bangalore: Students' Opinion

AI-Generated Summary based on 198 Reviews

The college, established in 1973, boasts a faculty ratio of 40:1, with faculty members being highly qualified, many holding PhDs and extensive industry experience. The faculty are generally supportive, helping students with doubts and providing guidance in both curriculum and extracurricular activities. They maintain strict rules regarding attendance and identity cards, and the internal assessment system includes at least two internal exams per semester. The teaching quality varies, with some departments like CS and IS known for their student-friendly approach, whereas others like Mechanical are considered more strict.

Faculty members are accessible outside class hours and are involved in both theoretical and practical teaching. The college supports student growth by providing a mix of experienced and young faculty, although some students feel that the teaching approach could be outdated. The teaching staff includes individuals from prestigious institutions like IISc, and the faculty is equipped to handle a wide array of subjects and projects. However, there are reports of bias and varying teaching quality across different departments.

The faculty's dedication to student development is evident, although some areas may require improvement.

Faculty:

There is not too many faculty in my college. My department (Artificial intelligence and Machine learning) has the least no of faculty in the college. They have introduced a new branch called as robotics and artificial intelligence that has no faculty related to that branch so mechanical faculty is dealing with them. Electronic and communication engineering has the highest no of faculty is guess coz that's the branch which hai been established way before and cse core also have good no of faculty in quiet if we see then we have electrical department and then civil department and then, isc department. So we have a course structure of 6 months in which every 2 months we have some or the other test like sometimes internal assessments or some class test but every two months we have internal assessments that's fixed both the internal assessments carries a marks of 25 which comes together as 50 then we have lab internal and lab externals. Lab internal is also of 50 marks and external also of 50 marks. So if we have to say we have lab + assessment+ assignment which comes together for 50 marks all in total. They use to average all the marks in 50 and 50 is of external . Vtu paper is of 100 marks in which is reduced to 50.

i am cse student , till now all teacher were average , some teacher are strict and partial , but finnaly your the one who have study and put hardwork . if you have doubts teacher will clarify. according to me dont depend on teachers, high semister teacher all are good and talented like from 3rd sem almost all teacher are good but in 1st sem and 2 sem teacher lack teaching skills and knowledge. this college is under vtu and exams are bit hard to normal range when compared to autonomous. but vtu graduation certification holds more value than autonomous. this college follows vtu curriculim

As I said , the faculty members are really good but some might treat you based on you behaviour, which is an usual trait of a teacher. We get internals once in a month and the questions asked are reasonable and what appears for the main examination. The evaluation is also a quite linient process ensuring that the student scores maximum in internals.

Faculty:

Faculty is on the lower side considering the huge amount of students flowing in every year. Majority of the faculty is very average is teaching style and approach. Few exceptions are who actually put in efforts and make sure the curriculum is taught to students. Vtu syllabus is not the best as mentioned earlier... outdated and focuses more on theory.
