The MD (Transfusion Medicine), also known as MD (Immunohaematology and Blood Transfusion), is a 3-year full-time postgraduate medical degree offered at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JLN), Ajmer, one of Rajasthan's leading government medical institutions established in 1965. The course trains doctors in the science and practice of blood banking, blood component therapy, immunohaematology, apheresis, transfusion-transmitted infections, and stem cell transplantation support. JLN Ajmer offers 5 seats in this specialisation, with admission based on NEET PG scores through both All India Quota (15%) and Rajasthan State Quota (85%) counselling. The annual tuition fee for government/state quota seats is Rs. 70,350 per year, making it one of the most affordable PG medical programmes in India. The course is affiliated to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur, and is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC). MD (Transfusion Medicine) is a niche but increasingly important specialisation, given the growing demand for safe blood transfusion services, stem cell transplantation support, and therapeutic apheresis across India.

Admission for the 2026-27 session has been completed through multiple rounds of Rajasthan NEET PG Counselling 2026. The next admission cycle (2027-28) is expected to begin after NEET PG 2027 results are declared, tentatively around July-August 2027. Rajasthan NEET PG Counselling 2027 Round 1 registration is expected to open around October-November 2027 based on the previous year's pattern.

Key Points

  • JLN Ajmer is a government medical college with a 1,000-bed attached teaching hospital, providing a high-volume blood bank and transfusion medicine department with diverse clinical exposure.
  • MD (Transfusion Medicine) is a non-clinical but highly specialised branch with growing career opportunities in blood banks, transplant centres, and oncology hospitals.
  • PG residents receive a monthly stipend: Rs. 82,800 (1st year), Rs. 87,975 (2nd year), and Rs. 91,425 (3rd year).
  • Candidates admitted under the state quota are required to sign a service bond of Rs. 25 lakh and must serve in a Rajasthan government facility for 2 years post-completion; this obligation is relaxed for those directly joining government service.
  • The college is ECFMG-approved, making the degree internationally recognised.
  • With only 5 seats, this is a limited-intake specialisation, making it relatively less competitive in terms of NEET PG rank compared to clinical branches like General Medicine or Radiology.
