University of Prince Edward Island admissions run on rolling documentation deadlines, with Class XII at 60% or higher opening most undergraduate routes and a Bachelor’s with a 75% average or 3.0 GPA anchoring the master’s-level minimum.

  • Fall 2027 (primary intake) deadline: 1 August 2027 for non-competitive undergraduate programs.
  • Base international tuition from CAD 9,040 per year (INR 6.28 Lakhs) and a CAD 50 application fee (INR 3,474) for most programs.
  • Class XII 60% and up (UG), Bachelor’s 75% or 3.0 GPA (PG), IELTS 6.5 minimum for standard programs.
  • Acceptance rate estimated at 65 to 75%, since UPEI publishes no official institutional figure.

Popular routes among Indian applicants include the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, MBA in Global Leadership, and Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering. Students choose the University of Prince Edward Island for its small-cohort teaching and Atlantic Canada base.

Admission Status: Open. The primary Fall intake (September) is accepting rolling applications for the 2027 cycle with documentation due by 1 August 2027. University of Prince Edward Island Application Deadlines

UPEI runs two main intakes for international students, per the official UPEI academic calendar. Fall (September) is the primary intake where most programs open, and Winter (January) accepts a smaller list. Professional programs like the DVM and MBA in Global Leadership publish separate cutoffs.

UPEI’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (September), and this is where most graduate and undergraduate programs open each year.

University of Prince Edward Island Eligibility for Indian Students

Academic entry at UPEI is set by faculty. Arts, Science, Business, and Engineering share one English floor. Nursing, Radiography, Education, and the DVM require a stricter one. All Indian applicants must clear both an academic prerequisite and an English-proficiency threshold before an offer can be issued.

  • UG general entry: Indian Class XII completion (12 years of schooling) with subject prerequisites for the target program.
  • UG STEM entry: Grade 12 Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry for Engineering, Science, and Pre-veterinary streams.
  • UG Nursing: Class XII with Biology and Chemistry, competitive percentages required.
  • PG entry: Bachelor’s degree with a 75% average or 3.0 GPA in the last twenty courses, from a UPEI-recognised institution.
  • English (standard): IELTS 6.5 overall, no band under 6.0. TOEFL iBT 80, PTE 58, CAEL 60, or Duolingo 120.
  • English (Nursing, Radiography, Education, DVM): IELTS 7.0 overall (7.0 Writing and Speaking, 6.5 Reading and Listening), TOEFL iBT 100, or PTE 66.

University of Prince Edward Island IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

UPEI’s calendar recognises three years of full-time study in a country where English is a principal language as an alternative to the standard test scores. Indian applicants whose Class XI, XII, and Bachelor’s coursework was delivered fully in English can submit a Medium of Instruction letter with sealed transcripts; UPEI evaluates the country recognition on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants who fall short of the IELTS or TOEFL floor may enter conditionally through the English Academic Preparation (EAP) program, which pairs part-time EAP with up to three credit courses. This route is not available for Nursing, Radiography, Education, or the DVM, all of which require the full IELTS 7.0 profile before an offer.

University of Prince Edward Island PG Programs and English Scores

UPEI’s graduate portfolio spans business, education, veterinary science, engineering, and health research. Base international tuition for course-based master’s programs starts around CAD 1,442 per three-credit course (INR 1.00 Lakh) plus the CAD 904 (INR 62,810) international course fee. For a fuller course-wise fees breakdown, see the UPEI programs page.

University of Prince Edward Island MBA Program

UPEI’s flagship MBA is the Master of Business Administration in Global Leadership, delivered through UPEI’s Faculty of Business at Charlottetown. It follows a single annual intake (September start), and admits from a competitive shortlist rather than rolling review. A general Master of Business Administration is also offered for candidates without a heavy work-experience profile.

MBA in Global Leadership at University of Prince Edward Island

Admission requires a Bachelor’s with 75% or a 3.0 GPA across the last 20 courses, and the admissions committee may request a GMAT or GRE score where the transcript alone does not confirm academic readiness. A satisfactory online interview assessment is required for every shortlisted candidate. Applications for the Fall 2027 cohort are due by 1 June 2027, per the official MBA in Global Leadership page.

MBA Fees at University of Prince Edward Island

International tuition for the MBA runs at CAD 1,746 per three-credit course (INR 1.21 Lakhs) plus the CAD 904 (INR 62,810) international-student per-course fee. Work experience is not a formal prerequisite for the general MBA, though the Global Leadership variant is designed for candidates with meaningful post-Bachelor’s professional experience.

University of Prince Edward Island PhD Programs and Funding

UPEI offers doctoral programs in Educational Studies, Sustainable Design Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, Psychology (PsyD), Environmental Sciences, and Molecular and Macromolecular Sciences. Every PhD admission is supervisor-driven, so contacting a prospective supervisor before submitting the formal application is the accepted route.

PhD Funding at University of Prince Edward Island

Funding depends on faculty budget, supervisor grants, and external awards. Doctoral candidates in eligible fields may access the Mitacs Accelerate Fellowship, a three-year package with a minimum stipend of CAD 72,000 (INR 50.03 Lakhs) across the term, through industry-partnered research projects. UPEI also lists internal graduate scholarships and bursaries for first- and second-year PhD students in biochemistry and environmental science.

Insider note: UPEI does not publish a blanket university-wide PhD stipend. Ask the prospective supervisor about specific TA, RA, and external grant support during the pre-application conversation, and confirm the funding letter before booking the CAD 3,000 (INR 2.08 Lakhs) tuition deposit.

University of Prince Edward Island Application Process and Portal

Every UPEI applicant submits through a single portal: UPEI Application Form at upei.ca/applicationform. Documentation is uploaded through the same account, and updates on file status arrive by email. Offer letters for undergraduates are sent by email first, and the full letter of admission for IRCC study-permit purposes is released only after the CAD 3,000 (INR 2.08 Lakhs) tuition deposit clears.

  1. Create your UPEI account on the UPEI Application Form portal and select your program and intake.
  2. Pay the application fee of CAD 50 (INR 3,474) on the portal, or CAD 75 (INR 5,211) for the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
  3. Upload academic transcripts for Class X, XI, XII, and any Bachelor’s coursework in sealed PDF or MyCreds format.
  4. Submit English proficiency results (IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE, or Duolingo) or a Medium of Instruction letter for waiver review.
  5. Attach program-specific supplements for MBA (resume, essays, interview slot), DVM (experience hours), and Nursing (prerequisite worksheet).
  6. Track your email for the conditional or firm offer, then pay the CAD 3,000 (INR 2.08 Lakhs) deposit to unlock the IRCC-ready letter of admission.

UPEI Admission Decision Timeline for International Students

Non-competitive undergraduate files are reviewed on a rolling basis, and most complete Indian applications receive a first email decision within four to six weeks of submission. Competitive intakes (Nursing, DVM, MBA in Global Leadership) release decisions in a single window after the final deadline. Offers are typically conditional on final Board results, medical clearance, and the tuition deposit.

University of Prince Edward Island Documents Required

Every document below is uploaded through the UPEI Application Form portal. Sealed digital transcripts via MyCreds, My eQuals, or Digitary CORE are accepted directly; paper transcripts must arrive in sealed envelopes from the issuing institution.

  • Passport bio page: clear scan valid at least one year past intake.
  • Class X, XI, and XII marksheets: sealed transcripts from CBSE, ICSE, or state board.
  • Bachelor’s transcripts: all semesters plus degree certificate for PG applicants.
  • English test score report: IELTS, TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, CAEL, or Duolingo, sent to UPEI directly.
  • Medium of Instruction letter: for applicants seeking the English proficiency waiver.
  • Statement of purpose: program-specific for all PG applicants, one page.
  • Letters of recommendation: two academic references for PG, three for PhD.
  • Curriculum vitae: mandatory for MBA and MSc research programs.
  • Financial proof: bank statement or GIC receipt for the study-permit stage, not the application.
  • Program supplements: Nursing prerequisite worksheet, DVM experience log, MBA essays.

University of Prince Edward Island Acceptance Rate

UPEI does not publish an official institutional acceptance rate. Based on the university’s access-oriented undergraduate admissions and the small class sizes across most faculties, the overall acceptance rate is estimated at 65 to 75%. That estimate does not apply to the DVM (highly competitive), Nursing (competitive), or the MBA in Global Leadership (interview-gated), all of which run much tighter shortlists.

How University of Prince Edward Island Selects Applicants

Non-competitive undergraduate programs admit most applicants who meet the stated Class XII prerequisite and clear the IELTS 6.5 floor. Competitive programs weight the academic average, prerequisite grades, and program-specific submissions (essays for MBA, experience hours for DVM). Indian applicants targeting Nursing or the DVM should treat those routes as top-quartile competitive rather than rolling-open.

Improving Your Odds at University of Prince Edward Island

Applying early in the rolling window, submitting a Medium of Instruction letter along with an above-floor IELTS score, and choosing a program that matches Class XII stream all improve the odds of a first-round offer. UPEI’s UPEI ranking band for Veterinary Science (top 50 globally) reflects the standard the DVM committee holds candidates to.

Canada Study Permit for University of Prince Edward Island Applicants

Indian students accepted to UPEI apply for a Canadian Study Permit through IRCC once the full letter of admission arrives. UPEI now requires the CAD 3,000 (INR 2.08 Lakhs) tuition deposit before releasing the IRCC-ready letter, and the study-permit file must include this letter, proof of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) of at least CAD 20,635 (INR 14.34 Lakhs), the first year’s tuition receipt, and biometrics.

Most Indian applicants file through the Student Direct Stream (SDS), which needs an IELTS 6.0 (each band) or equivalent, the UPEI letter, GIC proof, and a medical exam. Processing is typically faster than the standard route, and applicants should plan to have biometrics and medicals booked at least eight to ten weeks before the intended UPEI start date.

2026 update: Canada’s provincial attestation letter (PAL) requirement still applies to most undergraduate Study Permit files. UPEI’s international office coordinates the PAL through the Province of PEI, and applicants should confirm receipt of the PAL before submitting the IRCC application.

Tips and Checklist for University of Prince Edward Island Admissions

The following tips and steps are drawn from Indian-applicant patterns at UPEI over the last two intake cycles. They cover sequencing, not paperwork already listed under Documents Required.

  • Submit in the first month of the rolling window: non-competitive files reviewed in September to November clear the deposit stage well before IRCC peak.
  • Book IELTS 90 days before your target submission: UPEI needs the official score report from IDP or British Council, which takes 13 days to release.
  • Request MyCreds transcripts early: Indian universities take 3 to 6 weeks to issue sealed digital transcripts, so start once you decide on UPEI.
  • Line up the CAD 3,000 (INR 2.08 Lakhs) deposit: keep the funds ready within two weeks of the email offer, since the IRCC-ready letter is deposit-gated.
  • Confirm the MOI letter format: UPEI evaluates the country recognition case by case, so submit the MOI letter with the initial file rather than after review.
  • For MBA in Global Leadership, prepare interview slots by April: the June 1 deadline is preceded by a shortlist and interview window that closes earlier.
  • For DVM applicants, log animal-experience hours 12 months out: the DVM committee weighs breadth and depth of hands-on veterinary exposure.
  • Book biometrics same-week as IRCC submission: VFS Global slots in metros fill up 3 to 4 weeks in advance during peak season.

UPEI admissions reward early, complete files over strong-but-late ones. Indian applicants who lock in the rolling window, secure the IELTS and MOI paperwork by winter of the year before intake, and keep the tuition deposit liquid tend to see the fastest turnaround from offer to Study Permit.

  • There lot of Scholarship for the course before the course starts and few of them in between the courses as well. The eligibility is determined with a cover letter and if required an additional interview with the committee member. Not sure about the number of people who got the scholarship however the program as a whole is very supportive towards international students

Overview

I feel trapped and the university doesn’t even have a great value of education. It’s like studying in India itself except it gets you a PR. It’s best to come after bachelors that too in bigger cities like Toronto for the best experience. Here it’s way too cold, you got to walk a lots, no bus on weekends so again stuck where you are. It’s tuff.

Overview

Coming with the previous schooling in biology, I felt ready to take on the hard program of nursing. Around Christmas time, I decided to apply. The application was straight forward and did not take long. The fee was $50, and it was the best $50 I ever spent. I first received acceptance into my second choice program of chemistry, and then a few weeks later I got my acceptance into nursing.

Scholarship

Overview

I really wanted to go into the pre-vet program because I have wanted to be a vet ever since I was three years old. Around where I live there are only two universities that offer this program and the University of Prince Edward Island was my dream university. I put all of my faith into this one school and during my grade 12 year when it was time to start applying to different schools I only applied to one.

Scholarship

To apply for student loans you have to go through your home province and just provide them with some information such as tuition cost, proof of enrolment, and any other funding that you may have been rewarded.
