Course Curriculum

10

  • As it is a MBA program the difficulty level ranges from Moderate to High. It is mix of both theoretical and practical. All the professors are highly educated with lot of experience and that is something I was not expecting. Depends on how long long the student prefer to do the course I do the course for 2 years So usually I have one class a day (Only on Monday, Tue and Thursday). For people doing it in 1 year will have 2 classes a day on certain days of the week. The maximum limit for a class is only 20 and It could go low as 6 to 7. For now I am the only Indian in my class.

Admission Experience

  • I applied to the following universities:
    • University of Canada - Admitted
    • Thompson Rivers University - Admitted
    • Crandall University - Admitted
    • Vancouver Island University - Admitted
    • University of Prince Edward Island - Admitted and Currently Studying
  • There was no rejection I got admitted in all the colleges/universities I have applied for. I even got a Scholarship in Thompson Rivers University but I choose UPEI for the Global Leadership Specialization.
  • I wrote my IELTS exam. Post the Initial application process I was invited to attend an Online Interview. The Interview was more of like a question was asked and I need to answer it in a video and record it. There was also writing part that I needed to complete for the Interview process. At the end of the interview it was said that I will receive the results in 2 weeks however I got my admission letter a month later post the interview which kind of made me anxious. When I mailed them about the result the members of the department were not sure who I should contact which was difficult.
  • Fall 2024. I was looking to move abroad and study from 2019 and started going for coaching classes for IELTS and GMAT in 2019. But due to covid and other family reasons I again started the process only in May 2023. Wrote my IELTS exam in June 2023 and GMAT exam in October 2023. Started collecting documents like pay slips, reference letter from my work place and my college post my GMAT exams. Started applying in December 2023 with the help of IDP. Started receiving acceptance letter from most of the University in the middle of January 2024. Finally received my offer letter for UPEI in Feb 2024.

Faculty

10

  • The ratio is just fine. And the quality of education is great. The faculties are well prepared for each class and they have a vast knowledge about the subject they are handling. They all have real life examples to share it with the whole class. Some faculties do assist and give opportunities either to work with them as a teaching assistance and provide enough information about any hiring opportunities. As a whole all professors in faculty of business in UPEI is great.

Campus Life

10

  • There are 2 campuses overall one in Canada and one in Egypt. Library, sports center, student union center, walk in clinic, swimming pool, hockey ground, football ground and many more. There are lot of events that happen throughout the year and each of varies from time to time. There is separate student union for Indians and a common student union. There is a dance club and art club as well.

Part Time Jobs

  • In my class out of 20 students currently 4 of them have teaching assistance however it is mostly depends on the vacancy. I personally didn't try securing a teaching assistance job. The pay for TA varies from CAD 27 - CAD 25. There are other on campus jobs like library assistant, sports center assistant, canteen workers and administrative position. The students are given high preference than anyone else as it is a huge university to secure a job in winter term will be difficult but during fall term it is much easier.
  • CAD 16 to 17. It is advised to come few weeks before the classes start so that will be able to identify jobs more easily. Usually we can apply online however the chances of getting the job is high when the resumes are dropped in person. Platforms like Indeed and Glassdoor can be used to apply for jobs. Also there are specific websites like McD careers, KFC careers etc.

Placement

10

  • I really didn't build that much network yet to have conversation with people who already graduated as it is only 5 months since I moved. But most of them did get job once they are graduated in our University or any of the companies that our professors work. For MBA program in UPEI we do have capstone course where we will be working for a reputed company this hugely help for students to get placed.

Accommodation

Off Campus
10

  • I found it in a platform called Kijiji. I pay CAD 675. The utilities included are Washer, Dryer, WiFi, fully furnished, heater, all kitchen appliances included. I didn't encounter any challenges to be honest. Make sure to contact the owner and ask them to show around the place through a video call. Sign a lease for sure. My accommodation is 15 mins far from the University. Most of the students stay near the University.

Exams

  • IELTS and GMAT (To expand your options incase you wanna do an MBA). Admission process require Letter of Reference from workplace, college/ institute where my UG was completed, Detailed Resume, Specific SOP for each university, Pay slip and Offer letter (If showing work experience in resume). Yes I did attend interview for 2 University - Thompson Rivers University and University of Prince Edward Island.

Fees

  • Each course cost around CAD 1800 and to complete the MBA course I have to take 14 courses. Additionally there is an International student fee, management fee and health insurance (Optional if you have a health card or existing insurance) and few other fee. Generally it will cost around CAD 35,000 - 37,000 CAD. For my monthly expenses the major ones are Rent, Groceries and Mobile Bill which will cost me around CAD 900 - CAD 1000 each month. Transportation for UPEI students with the student card. Most of the books for the courses I find it online for free.

Scholarship

  • There lot of Scholarship for the course before the course starts and few of them in between the courses as well. The eligibility is determined with a cover letter and if required an additional interview with the committee member. Not sure about the number of people who got the scholarship however the program as a whole is very supportive towards international students
