University of Winnipeg admissions run on a three-intake cycleFall, Winter, Spring — with applications assessed on Class XII marks for undergraduate study and a recognised bachelor’s degree plus a minimum 3.5 GPA on a 4.5 scale for graduate study. Indian applicants must also submit an English proficiency score, typically IELTS 6.5 overall, unless they qualify for one of the university’s narrow waivers.

  • Next live deadline: Winter 2027 graduate applications close 1 September 2026; Fall 2027 (primary intake) undergraduate applications close 1 March 2027.
  • The application fee is CAD 120 (around INR 8,348).
  • Eligibility floor: UG needs Class XII at 70% (CBSE) or 72–75% for ISC and state boards; PG needs a four-year bachelor’s with 3.5/4.5 GPA; both levels need IELTS 6.5 (no band under 6.0).
  • Acceptance rate: Approximately 75% at the institutional level, competitive within the Master in Management and Bioscience & Policy PhD tracks.

Popular admissions targets for Indian students at the University of Winnipeg are the Master in Management (MiM) with its Data Analytics and Technology, Innovation & Operations streams, the four-stream Applied Computer Science bachelor’s, and the M.A. in Applied Economics. Indian student sentiment centres on the university’s small class sizes, downtown Winnipeg location, and the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program pathway that opens after graduation.

Admission Status: The primary intake at the University of Winnipeg is Fall (September), with the international undergraduate application deadline falling on 15 June 2027 and the general graduate application deadline on 1 February 2027

University of Winnipeg Application Deadlines 2026–27

The university runs three yearly intakes for Indian applicants — Fall (September), Winter (January), and Spring (May) — but Fall is the primary intake because the widest slate of undergraduate and graduate programs opens for it, per the University of Winnipeg international admissions page.

  • All applications go through the university’s own WebAdvisor applicant portal; Canada does not use a central UG platform for Manitoba, so there is no UCAS or Common App equivalent here.
  • UWinnipeg’s primary intake for Indian students is Fall (September) — most programs open here.

Deadlines below are drawn from the official University of Winnipeg applications and deadlines page

Intake Level Application Deadline
Winter 2027 (January 2027) Undergraduate – International 15 October 2026
Winter 2027 (January 2027) Graduate 1 July 2026
Spring 2027 (May 2027) Undergraduate – International 15 February 2027
Spring/Summer 2027 (May 2027) Graduate 1 December 2026
Fall 2027 (September 2027) Undergraduate – International 15 June 2027
Fall 2027 (September 2027) Graduate 1 February 2027

UWinnipeg Eligibility for Indian Students

The University of Winnipeg publishes country-by-country entry standards. For Indian applicants, the university expects strong Class XII marks for undergraduate entry and a completed four-year bachelor’s with a minimum GPA for graduate entry. Some accepted English tests carry component minimums, so a strong overall band alone is not enough.

  • UG general entry: Class XII at 70% (CBSE), 72% average for state boards, or 75% in academic subjects (ISC).
  • UG stream prerequisites: Science and Applied Computer Science streams need Class XII Mathematics; Business needs Mathematics too.
  • PG general entry: Four-year bachelor’s from a recognised university with 3.5 on a 4.5 GPA scale (a "B" or ~65% Indian equivalent).
  • MiM add-on: Two years of professional or leadership experience; Data Analytics stream needs a quantitative bachelor’s.
  • PhD (Bioscience and Policy): M.Sc. in a life-science or related discipline with a 3.5/4.5 cumulative GPA and a named faculty supervisor.

English Language Requirements for UWinnipeg

Indian applicants can satisfy the English requirement with any of the tests below. The university’s language-requirements page names IELTS Academic as the default; the General Training module is not accepted.

Test Minimum Overall Component Minimum
IELTS Academic 6.5 No band under 6.0
Duolingo English Test 120 Not applicable
TOEFL iBT 4.5 No component under 4.0

UWinnipeg IELTS Waiver for Indian Students

UWinnipeg does not offer a Medium-of-Instruction waiver for Indian applicants who studied in English-medium schools in India. The published exemptions are narrow: a Canadian-curriculum high school outside Canada with Grade 12 English at 70%+ (virtual schools excluded), IB Higher Level English at grade 4 (B) or above, or AP English at grade 3 (B) or above. India-only "letter from principal confirming English medium" submissions are not accepted, so an IELTS or DET score is a practical requirement for almost every Indian applicant.

UWinnipeg Application Process Step by Step

All international applications route through the university’s WebAdvisor applicant portal. There is no central Canadian UG platform for Manitoba — you apply directly. The graduate application also uses WebAdvisor plus a program-specific supplementary form for departments such as MiM and Marriage and Family Therapy.

  1. Register on the WebAdvisor applicant portal and start a new application under the correct intake (Fall 2027 for the primary cycle).
  2. Complete the online form with programme choice, personal details, and academic history; graduate applicants pick their supervisor field where required.
  3. Pay the application fee of CAD 120 (around INR 8,348) on the WebAdvisor portal by credit card; this fee is non-refundable.
  4. Upload documents: Class XII / bachelor’s transcripts, English test score, passport bio-page, SOP, CV, references (graduate only).
  5. Arrange transcript couriers: Sealed official transcripts must be couriered from each Indian board or university directly to UWinnipeg Admissions.
  6. Track your file in WebAdvisor; conditional offers usually arrive in 6 to 10 weeks for undergraduate applications and 10 to 14 weeks for graduate applications.

University of Winnipeg Admission Decisions and Offers

The Admissions office issues three decision outcomes: unconditional offer, conditional offer, and refusal. Conditional offers most often name a pending final Class XII marksheet or a required English score. You confirm your seat by paying the tuition deposit — CAD 500 for undergraduate, CAD 1,000 for graduate — before the deadline printed on the letter of acceptance.

  • Offer timing: UG offers in 6–10 weeks; MiM and PhD offers in 10–14 weeks.
  • Acceptance deadline: Typically 4–6 weeks from offer date, or 30 April for Fall admits.
  • Deferral policy: One-time deferral to the next intake permitted if requested in writing before the term starts.
  • Letter of Acceptance (LOA): Required for the Canada study permit application; UWinnipeg issues both the LOA and the Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) together.

UWinnipeg Documents Required Checklist

The paperwork list below covers a complete international file at both undergraduate and graduate level. Every certified copy sent to UWinnipeg must be attested by the issuing board or university — school-attested photocopies are not accepted for admission.

  • Passport bio-page (colour scan; validity for full study duration).
  • Class XII marksheet and certificate (UG applicants) or bachelor’s degree, marksheets, and consolidated transcript (PG and PhD applicants).
  • Class X marksheet (UG applicants, for date-of-birth verification).
  • English test score report — IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Duolingo, or TOEFL Essentials.
  • Statement of Purpose outlining programme choice and career goals.
  • Curriculum Vitae listing academic and work history (mandatory for MiM and PhD).
  • Two letters of reference — academic for PhD, academic or professional for Master’s; not required for UG.
  • Work experience letters for MiM applicants (two years minimum).
  • Programme-specific supplementary form — MiM, MFT, PhD applicants only.
  • Financial declaration — bank statement or GIC certificate at the visa stage, not at the admission stage.

University of Winnipeg Acceptance Rate

The University of Winnipeg does not publish a single official institutional acceptance rate. Independent trackers estimate the figure at around 75%, based on the university’s access-oriented profile — meaning it admits most applicants who meet its published Class XII or bachelor’s-GPA thresholds. Competitive tracks pull the number lower.

Where the Acceptance Rate Tightens

Selective streams inside UWinnipeg run well under the 75% figure. The Master in Management (MiM) and the PhD in Bioscience and Policy are the two clearest examples, along with Marriage and Family Therapy, where the clinical interview stage filters heavily.

How Indian Applicants Increase Their Odds

Strong CBSE Class XII marks (75%+) with the correct stream prerequisites almost always convert for the general undergraduate degree. For MiM, the two-years-of-work-experience requirement is a hard filter — applicants without any professional letter are not put in the shortlisted pool. See the ranking band and comparison group for how UWinnipeg sits among Canadian primarily-undergraduate universities.

University of Winnipeg admissions reward early filing, a clean CBSE-plus-IELTS file, and — for MiM and PhD applicants — a targeted match to the programme’s specialisation. With SDS retired, Indian applicants should treat the 8–12 week study-permit window as a hard planning constraint rather than a buffer.

There was an application on the website of the university that I had to fill out, which asked me to fill in my financial need and my current financial health. Also, at the end of the application, I had to write an introduction essay, with the reason for me to aid any financial help.
