MacEwan University offers 100+ scholarships, awards and bursaries, of which 4 automatic Chancellor’s Series tiers reach every admitted Indian applicant. No separate scholarship application is needed. The top tier offsets nearly half of first-year tuition.
- Standard 2026/27 international UG tuition: CAD 941 per credit, or roughly CAD 28,230 (INR 19.44 Lakhs) for a 30-credit year.
- Top scholarship tier (Chancellor’s Entrance): CAD 10,000 to 14,000 (INR 6.89 to 9.64 Lakhs) in year one, credited to your student account.
- Chancellor’s Series total stack across 4 tiers: CAD 4,000 to 14,000 (INR 2.76 to 9.64 Lakhs), assigned by admission average.
- Next scholarship-eligible admission deadline: 1 March 2027 IST for Fall 2027 entry; 1 July 2026 IST for Winter 2027 entry.
Currency Note: All INR conversions use the live rate of 1 CAD = INR 68.88 as of August 2026. AGPA below stands for Admission Grade Point Average, the entry-mark measure MacEwan uses to slot applicants into scholarship tiers.

MacEwan University Scholarships for UG Students
All 4 UG entrance awards below are part of the Chancellor’s Scholarship Series and require zero separate application. Your admission average places you in a tier automatically. Awards are made until the year’s funding pool runs dry.
| Scholarship | Amount (CAD) | Amount (INR) | Eligibility | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chancellor’s Entrance Scholarship | CAD 10,000 to 14,000 | INR 6.89 to 9.64 Lakhs | Admission average 95 to 100%, or AGPA 3.99+ | 1 March 2027 IST (Fall); 1 July 2026 IST (Winter) |
| President’s Entrance Scholarship | CAD 8,000 to 12,000 | INR 5.51 to 8.27 Lakhs | Admission average 90 to 94.99%, or AGPA 3.90 to 3.99 | 1 March 2027 IST (Fall); 1 July 2026 IST (Winter) |
| Provost’s Entrance Scholarship | CAD 6,000 to 10,000 | INR 4.13 to 6.89 Lakhs | Admission average 85 to 89.99%, or AGPA 3.70 to 3.89 | 1 March 2027 IST (Fall); 1 July 2026 IST (Winter) |
| Dean’s Entrance Scholarship | CAD 4,000 to 8,000 | INR 2.76 to 5.51 Lakhs | Admission average 80 to 84.99%, or AGPA 3.50 to 3.69 | 1 March 2027 IST (Fall); 1 July 2026 IST (Winter) |
Two rules trip up Indian applicants. Your admission file must be complete by 1 March 2027 IST (Fall intake), or 1 July 2026 IST for Winter. Miss the date and the tier assignment skips you regardless of a 95% board result.
- Submit the admission application with all supporting documents by the relevant scholarship deadline.
- MacEwan auto-computes your Admission Grade Point Average and slots you into a tier.
- Award confirmation appears inside your admission letter, not on a separate scholarship portal.
- Fall installment applies to Fall tuition; Winter installment releases once 12 Fall credits are complete.
The award is paid in two installments. The Fall term half lands after your admission is confirmed. The Winter term half requires 12 completed Fall credits and a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Reddit Insight: In a recent cohort, 813 first-year students collected Chancellor’s Series awards, a 34% jump on the year before. That is roughly 15% of the first-year enrolment. Indian applicants with a 90%+ board score sit inside the President’s tier by default.
MacEwan University Scholarships for PG / Master’s Students
MacEwan is primarily an undergraduate teaching institution. Its graduate portfolio is small, led by the MBA program and the Master of Communications and Technology. The Chancellor’s Series is structured around undergraduate admission averages, so master’s applicants do not slot into it automatically.
| Route | Typical Value (CAD) | Value (INR) | How it works | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Departmental bursaries (need-based, once admitted) | Varies, often CAD 500 to 3,000 | INR 0.34 to 2.07 Lakhs | Apply via the MacEwan awards portal after admission | Rolling; tentative annual cycle October 2026 to March 2027 IST |
| Research or teaching assistantship | Case-by-case | Case-by-case | Negotiated with the hiring faculty or program chair | Program-specific |
| External Canadian awards (see Section 5) | Up to CAD 50,000 per year at PhD level | Up to INR 34.44 Lakhs per year | Independent application via Tri-Agency (SSHRC / NSERC / CIHR) portals | Tentative November 2026 IST (annual) |
Practical route for an Indian PG applicant: shortlist a program, secure admission first, then email the awards office (awards@macewan.ca) with your funding request. Continuing scholarship tiers open only from year 2 of any degree program.
India-Specific Scholarships at MacEwan University
No award at MacEwan is legally reserved for Indian nationality alone. That said, three routes carry the highest hit-rate for Indian applicants at admission. Two are institutional; one is bilateral India-Canada.
| Route | Value (CAD) | Value (INR) | India-Fit | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chancellor’s Scholarship Series (all 4 tiers) | CAD 4,000 to 14,000 | INR 2.76 to 9.64 Lakhs | Highest hit-rate; Indian board averages in the 80 to 100% band map cleanly to the four tiers | 1 March 2027 IST (Fall); 1 July 2026 IST (Winter) |
| MacEwan International Education Bursary (need-based) | Case-by-case | Case-by-case | Open to enrolled international students facing documented financial hardship | Rolling; tentative Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 IST cycles |
| Shastri Research Student Fellowship (India-Canada bilateral) | CAD 1,100 to 1,300 per month | INR 75,768 to 89,544 per month | Indian PG students doing Canada-focused research; portable to Canadian host institutions | Tentative annual cycle, closing December 2026 IST |
The math tilts sharply. A 95%+ CBSE, ICSE or state-board average puts you inside the Chancellor’s tier at admission, worth INR 6.89 to 9.64 Lakhs in year one. That value is added to your student account and offsets tuition invoices for Fall and Winter terms.
Reddit Insight: A common gotcha: waiting for board results before applying costs you scholarship eligibility. Submit the application by 1 March 2027 IST using predicted or Grade 11 marks. Upload the final CBSE / ICSE mark sheet when it arrives in May 2027.
MacEwan University PhD Scholarships
MacEwan does not confer PhD degrees as of the 2026/27 academic year. The institution focuses on undergraduate degrees plus a handful of applied master’s programs. Indian applicants targeting a Canadian doctorate should apply to a PhD-granting Alberta institution and then compete for Tri-Agency (SSHRC / NSERC / CIHR) awards there.
| Award | Value (CAD) | Value (INR) | Applies where | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship (Vanier CGS) | CAD 50,000 per year, up to 3 years | INR 34.44 Lakhs per year | PhD-granting Canadian institutions (not MacEwan) | Tentative early November 2026 IST (institutional nominations open earlier) |
| IDRC Research Awards | Up to CAD 42,000 for a one-year post | Up to INR 28.93 Lakhs | Master’s or PhD holders with development-focused research | Tentative September 2026 IST |
Planning a research doctorate? Use MacEwan for a bachelor’s degree first. Then target a Tri-Agency-eligible Canadian PhD program in year 4 and nominate for Vanier through that host university.
External Government Scholarships
Beyond MacEwan’s own awards, four external scholarship streams matter for Indian students. The Government of Canada and India-Canada bilateral bodies run them.
| Scholarship | Value (CAD) | Value (INR) | Level | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Study in Canada Scholarships (Global Affairs Canada) | CAD 10,200 for 4 months | INR 7.03 Lakhs | Short-term UG or PG exchange from India | Tentative March 2027 IST |
| Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) | CAD 7,200 for 5 to 6 months | INR 4.96 Lakhs | Short-term UG or PG exchange (India-eligibility varies by cycle) | Tentative March 2027 IST |
| Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute grants | CAD 1,100 to 1,300 per month | INR 75,768 to 89,544 per month | PG research and doctoral fellows in Canada-focused disciplines | Tentative annual cycle, closing December 2026 IST |
| Alberta Student Aid | Loans and grants, case-by-case | Case-by-case | Alberta residents (post-permanent-residency); a fallback for Indian students who transition to PR while studying | Rolling; tentative Fall 2026 IST |
Order of pursuit for an Indian applicant: lock in a Chancellor’s Series tier at admission, then layer external cash if your program timeline fits. Study in Canada Scholarships and ELAP need an India-side application through a partner Indian university.

MacEwan University Scholarships: Frequently Asked Questions
Ques. What is the maximum scholarship an Indian UG student can stack at MacEwan University in year one?
Ans. The single largest institutional award for a first-year Indian applicant is the Chancellor’s Entrance Scholarship at CAD 14,000 (INR 9.64 Lakhs). That figure caps year-one institutional stacking, since the Chancellor’s, President’s, Provost’s and Dean’s tiers are mutually exclusive. Add a Study in Canada Scholarship of CAD 10,200 (INR 7.03 Lakhs) for a semester-long research add-on. The theoretical maximum then reaches CAD 24,200 (INR 16.67 Lakhs) in a single year.
Ques. When should an Indian applicant submit the MacEwan admission to stay eligible for scholarships?
Ans. Submit a complete admission file by 1 March 2027 IST (Fall 2027 intake) or 1 July 2026 IST (Winter 2027 intake). Complete means transcripts, English-proficiency scores, and application fee all uploaded. Miss the date and MacEwan skips the automatic Chancellor’s Series check, even if your marks would otherwise clear the 95% cutoff.
Ques. Do I need to apply separately for the Chancellor’s Scholarship Series?
Ans. No. For year-one entrance awards, MacEwan runs the check automatically against your admission average or Admission Grade Point Average (AGPA). The award, if any, appears in your admission letter. Continuing scholarships from Fall 2026 onwards, however, require a separate application through the MacEwan awards portal.
Ques. What admission average or AGPA does an Indian applicant need for each Chancellor’s Series tier?
Ans. Chancellor’s tier: 95 to 100% or AGPA 3.99+. President’s tier: 90 to 94.99% or AGPA 3.90 to 3.99. Provost’s tier: 85 to 89.99% or AGPA 3.70 to 3.89. Dean’s tier: 80 to 84.99% or AGPA 3.50 to 3.69. Indian CBSE, ICSE and state-board best-of-four averages are accepted by the admissions office; conversion of percentages to AGPA is handled internally.
Ques. What exactly does the MacEwan Chancellor’s Entrance Scholarship cover, and how is the CAD 10,000 to 14,000 amount decided?
Ans. The award is credited to your student account and offsets tuition invoices for Fall and Winter of year one. The exact dollar value inside the CAD 10,000 to 14,000 band is set by MacEwan. Funding pool depth and applicant ranking decide the final number that cycle. Half arrives at Fall registration; the other half releases in Winter, contingent on 12 completed Fall credits and a minimum 2.0 GPA.
Ques. Will a MacEwan University scholarship cover the cost of living in Edmonton?
Ans. Partially. A typical Indian student needs CAD 12,000 to 16,000 (INR 8.27 to 11.02 Lakhs) per year for rent, food, transit and health insurance in Edmonton. A Chancellor’s tier award of CAD 14,000 (INR 9.64 Lakhs) is applied to tuition, not living costs. Plan for part-time work up to 24 hours per week during term to cover living expenses. A study permit issued for MacEwan admits this.

- It is a very reputed university of Edmonton, Alberta. The quality of education is very good.
The overall experience is nice. Very less students from abroad though. The infrastructure is very good. Quality of education is also updated every time. I am satisfied but the only problem is job placement and lack of job availability as a student and even after graduation.

- The classes were smaller which made it feel like an easier transition into university. I could also get more one on one help with the professors. It is also a teaching focused institution so I felt I would get a good quality education.
Honestly great! I think the University is very beautiful and the students are super kind and humble which is a huge plus! The staff have been great as well always going above and beyond to help you with what you need.
Scholarship
My parents set up an RESP for me since I was young.
It's a popular university on my city, all my friends go here and it had my program of choice the admission process was simple I just submitted it got conditionally accepted and I had to spend roughly 200$ and for my first semester was about 2500$ I passed grade 12 with a 70-75% average and I got conditionally accepted and eventually accepted.
