2026-27 Rationalisation Note for Financial Management

The current 2026-27 syllabus retains the full Financial Management chapter intact. The capital structure factors list and the working capital determinants list remain the central testable artefacts.

  • Kept in full: All six numbered sub-sections, the 14 capital-structure factors, the 12 working-capital factors, the 8 fixed-capital factors, and every exercise question.
  • Trimmed: The earlier edition's separate detailed discussion of cost-of-capital theory has been condensed in the new print.
  • Removed: No major content has been removed for 2026-27.

How to Read Chapter 9 Financial Management in Three Passes

  1. Pass 1: Skim (30 minutes): Read Section 9.1 and 9.2 only. Note one sentence for "what is financial management" and "wealth maximisation". Skim the three-decisions section.
  2. Pass 2: Detailed (60 minutes): Work through Section 9.5 (Capital Structure) and 9.6 (Fixed and Working Capital) with a pen. Memorise the 14 capital-structure factors and the 12 working-capital factors. Practise the trading-on-equity numerical.
  3. Pass 3: Apply (45 minutes): Attempt the steel-industry composite case (Q6 Long Answer) without looking back. Then verify your answer against the chapter. This is where most marks are lost in the board exam.
Concept: Financial management is essentially three decisions and one objective. The objective is wealth maximisation; the three decisions are investment, financing and dividend. Every other concept in the chapter (capital structure, trading on equity, financial planning, working capital, dividend factors) fits inside one of those three decisions.
