SASTRA BTech and integrated MTech admission at Thanjavur used two equal seat groups in 2026. Stream 1 combined JEE Main and Class 12 marks; Stream 2 used Class 12 marks alone. Applicants without JEE Main could therefore compete for Stream 2 seats. The 2027-28 rules and dates are awaited.

Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Chennai require separate applications. The following requirements apply to the latest completed cycle in 2026.

SASTRA Admission Dates

SASTRA opened its 2026 applications on 27 March. BTech applications closed on 5 June, and the 2026 engineering rank list came out on 6 June. The university then held online counselling. The periods shown for 2027 are tentative comparisons with the 2026 cycle, not announced dates.

Event Confirmed 2026 schedule 2027 planning period
BTech and integrated MTech applications 27 March to 5 June 2026 Around late March to early June 2027, tentative
Engineering rank list 6 June 2026 Early June 2027, tentative
Engineering online counselling After the 2026 rank list and major Class 12 board results June 2027 is a tentative planning month
Five-year law, Phase I application 27 March to 19 April 2026 Late March to April 2027, tentative
Five-year law, Phase II application 27 March to 5 June 2026 Late March to early June 2027, tentative

Law counselling ran in phases, while MBA, MCA and several other programmes accepted applications through rolling admission. Their deadlines were separate from BTech.

BTech and Integrated MTech Admission

For 2026, Stream 1 covered 50% of BTech and five-year integrated MTech seats at Thanjavur and Kumbakonam. SASTRA gave equal weight to the normalised Class 12 aggregate and JEE Main score. Stream 2 covered the other 50% and used Class 12 marks. One application placed an eligible student in both streams. A student without JEE Main could still compete in Stream 2.

The 2026 BTech rule required at least 60% in Class 12, with Mathematics and Physics plus Chemistry, Biotechnology, Computer Science or Biology from a recognised board in a single sitting. It also stated a 60% minimum in the relevant Maths, Physics and Chemistry or Biology, Physics and Chemistry combination. Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Bioengineering had an exception for applicants without Mathematics. Students should match their subjects to the chosen branch; the exception does not cover every BTech branch.

SASTRA also set a 2026 age condition: undergraduate applicants must not have completed 19 years on 1 August 2026. The reference date for the next cycle has not been announced, so 2027 applicants should check that condition in the new notice.

Law, MBA, MCA and Other Courses

Programme 2026 eligibility and selection
BA LLB, BBA LLB and BCom LLB Class 12 academic stream, first attempt, at least 60% aggregate and English. Phase I used CLAT 2026; Phase II combined Class 12 and CLAT scores with 50% weight each.
MBA First-class recognised bachelor’s degree of at least three years. Selection used degree marks, a test and an interview; the university gave preference to scores including CAT, XAT and CMAT.
MCA Recognised bachelor’s degree of at least three years with Mathematics in Class 12 or the degree. Selection used degree marks and SASTRA’s entrance test.
MTech Relevant bachelor’s degree. Admissions were based on qualifying-degree marks, with preference for GATE where applicable.
Other science, commerce and arts courses Relevant Class 12 or degree marks. CUET 2026 could be considered if results were available in time.

Law applicants who had not taken CLAT could still receive a Phase II combined score, with zero in its CLAT part. That leaves them competing on a lower combined score than an otherwise similar student with CLAT marks.

Application and Counselling Process

Applicants select the campus and programme, enter academic details and submit the online form. In 2026, one engineering application covered both selection streams at a campus. A separate form was needed for each additional campus. JEE Main or CLAT results were entered where applicable.

After applications closed, SASTRA made a rank list and carried out online counselling for engineering and law. Engineering applicants submitted branch choices, and SASTRA allotted seats by rank, preference and availability. MBA, MCA and several other programmes followed rolling selection in batches. Selected students received the applicable admission instructions and paid the tuition fee online to complete enrolment.
