- The campus is very nice to walk through as there is a lot of nature.
- The gym and athletics center is good for people trying to find a place to workout.
- UCSC has many good research opportunities.
Dislikes
- Housing is very difficult to get.
- There is no parking space and parking costs a lot of money.
- Downtown is also very expensive as it a is a tourist location.
Campus Life
- At the start of the academic year, the college hosts something called Cornucopia where all the clubs advertise themselves.
- There are many clubs at UCSC with various topics and events.
- Out campus has two libraries, an athletic center, and a health center. UCSC takes part in soccer, tennis, and swimming.
- There are also clubs related to religion and culture so there are many cultural events everywhere.
Fees
- The fees are based on in-state and out-of-state tuition. If a person proves residency in their current state, then they pay in-state tuition.
- In-state tuition is cheaper. A majority of the tuition is academics. Students may have to take a college provided health insurance plan or they can waive it. Having the college health insurance costs more.
- Lastly, housing is also part of tuition if a student has on-campus housing. If students live in dorms, they have to also pay for a meal plan. The meal plans and rents are shown on the UCSC website.
- Students pay the academic tuition every quarter. Housing tuition can be paid monthly or every quarter. The student gets to choose. My current housing is $1400 montly. The school has good transportation so it is easy to travel of campus.
Likes
- Highly skilled and knowledgeable faculty
- Vicinity to Silicon Valley and tech companies therein
- Cheaper than private colleges by virtue of UCSC being a state university
Dislikes
- Location is somewhat remote and not a lot of shops/businesses on campus
- During a recession, job opportunities may be fewer
- Getting housing is very difficult and relatively expensive in Santa Cruz
Campus Life
- The University of California system has many campuses; you can check them out on Wikipedia. I am on the Santa Cruz campus.
- There are two fairly well-equipped libraries. There's a gym, swimming pool, track, and field facilities. Our college is not known much for sports, but I've heard the volleyball team is pretty good.
- We do have a pretty cool and edgy student newspaper called Fishrap.
Fees
- The PhD program is fully funded and I get an approx. ~$2800 per month, post taxes.
- My rent is around $1400 and my other expenses (including stuff such as food/transportation) are around $800-1000.
- In case you own a car, you're looking at additional expenses, including at least $250 per month in insurance, parking, and licensing, apart from the cost of buying a car (obviously!). But you don't necessarily need a car, since the public transportation in Santa Cruz and its connectivity via public transport to the Bay Area is fairly decent.
Likes
- 1. You get TA easily ( pays more than anything )
- 2. Amazing labs to focus on your research

There are many colleges
1. Cowell stevenson college
2. Merill college
3. John R lewis college
4. Jack baskin school of engineering
5.kresge college
6. Rachel carson college
7. Oaks College. - There are also 3 libraries in the campus.
- We celebrate Diwali, Holi, and also several Bollywood nights and movie nights in the college. There will be graduate student commons every first week of the month where every graduate student may get together at a pizza place and get beer and pizza.
Fees
- So if you are accepted, you will have to pay 12,000 dollars every 3 months as tuition fee. Along with this, you can expect living expenses to be around $1500, inclusive of rent and utilities.
- However, with TA, they pay you 3500 dollars monthly and your tuition fee is reduced to 5000 dollars. (Could not get easier.).
- In my case, my rent was around 1100 dollars. My living expenses are around another 400 dollars.
- The buses around Santa Cruz are free for college students.
Overview
Because this college is very nice and that campus is also very nice. and the admission process is simply not bad at all. And counselling members are also nice and there are all required documents with us. It's not hard to take the admission process
Campus Life
my first year of college presents a lot of new experiences living away from home meeting new people and managing your own time. prepare for life on campus by figuring out what to bring. how to handle challenging circumstances and what you can do to manage your workload. The infrastructure is very nice and very clean. the library is very big and lots of books are available
Overview
I initially wanted to be a computer science: video game design major and it is the only UC that offers it as a major. Location is also great because it is close to where I live so I get to save on housing.
Fees
There are fees for many things. We have access to free tutoring for many courses and we have TAs for almost all classes. For some classes with labs, we have to pay a $25 fee for materials
