What Students Say
Likes
- Amenities that the university provides such as the gym, cafeteria or on-campus events.
- Co-op program: As mentioned earlier students get to do internship during the course which is of 5 years.
Dislikes
- For a CS major I feel the workload is heavy. Maybe I'm bad at managing my schedule but that's how it is.
- You have so many assignments and exams.
Colleges Where I Was Accepted
Reason for choosing my college
- University of Cincinnati's Co-op program where students get to do a total of 1 year of internship in the course. Usually, a bachelor's degree is 4 years but at UC it's 5 because of the internship.
Colleges Where I Was Rejected
Reason for Rejection
- Maybe I applied late or my SAT score was not enough. Anyway, I was not looking forward to going to this college since It wasn't offering scholarships to international students.

Tips to enhance your application
- Do so many extracurricular activities. Also, there is a math placement test make sure to do good on that and also try to get as many points as possible on the SAT and IELTS.
Admission Experience
- I chose the USA because the opportunities here are more and the work culture here is good. UC has a co-op program where students get to do internships for a year throughout the course. This University is located in Cincinnati, OH.
- They have tie-ups with many local companies and provide referrals for many of them, and they have research opportunities in Taiwan and Africa where if you have a good GPA, you get selected, and that will count as one of the five co-ops you have to do.
- The overall experience is nice, but the workload during college is stressful.
Class Schedule
- You have approximately 2-4 classes every day. Each class is about 1-2 hours, and it depends on the class. The strength is like 300 students in common courses like chemistry and physics, but on average, for other courses, it's 40-60 students. There are approximately 50-60 Indians in my course. Daily assignments and self-study take up two or maybe 3 hours max.
Faculty
- Here, the faculties only teach, and if you have a doubt, you have to go to their office during office hours and have a chat with the professor. Usually, all the resources are available on the Canvas site(an app where all the assignments and, for some courses, lecture recordings are posted).
- No, faculties don't help with jobs or anything they don't worry about you; you have to take care of it yourself.
Campus Life
- There are so many events going on in the university and there are many Indian events hosted by the Indian clubs and you get free food on campus from the events. There are all the facilities you can think of like a library, gym, recreation centre, medical centre etc. The famous events on my campus are UC Dhadak, Movie Night and many Diwali events.
Part Time Jobs
- Most Indian students work in the cafeteria, on-campus fast food centres, coffee shops etc. Usually, all the part-time jobs are kind of tough to get. Usually, you could apply to jobs on handshake or if you want a TA job you'll get an email.
-
As international students, we are not allowed to work off-campus. I got a part-time job as a Teaching assistant. My job was to grade assignments, explain doubts during class and grade their project. Hourly pay is $12 and you can work up to 20 hours a week. In the current market, it's not easy to find internships unless you're very good.
Placement
- I am not aware of the full-time job opportunities after graduation. But according to Google on average, I think it’s about $60,000 - $65,000 per annum. We have the career fair where many companies come and students can interact with the recruiters.
